Have the ResMods gotten Cranky?

I'll second that...
I'm an Asst admin on a gaming forum much like this one, and I can tell you without a doubt that moderator is a shitty shitty job. It's a thankless, time-consuming job where rules dont bend, your comments are ALWAYS skewed or taken out of context, and where judgement and tact are your only tools to complete your duties without offending people or driving them away. I would wager the main reason Strife jumps in and axes a thread dead around here is because people dont listen. If Strife was to tactfully ask that a thread stay on topic, or to cut the bickering, do you have ANY doubt people on this forum would continue on as if his/her request was ever posted? I don't. If accountability to LL dictates that Strife shouldn't throw the big ego smackdown on individuals and chastize them in public for their actions, the only recourse at Mod level is to close the thread. That's just how it works.
I would hire Strife as a Mod or Super Mod if we had an opening.

I suppose every forum needs its mascot troll, who hates authority just because it is what it is and needs to be, and has no qualms pointing out daily how much it hates said authority.

Strife's not concerned over it; he knows the score...

It is too bad, really, because some things I can (and have) agreed with, but the relentless quixotic incursions just destroy any and all credibility, even for the things that I would consider are meaningful causes.

VooDoo, your vote of confidence was unexpected and is greatly appreciated as is everyone else's.

You do this job long enough and you realize that it wouldn't be fun to abuse the power granted, it would in fact only create more work and headache. At the first hint of impropriety there are people who want your head skewered on a spike.

At this point the threads is mostly Malachi vs. Everyone Else. I can't condone people ganging up on one person, especially when that one person sees me as an enemy. I would appreciate it if the discussion shifted away from bashing Malachi (strictly speaking it's a type of Private Discussion).

I look at the "age" of the two avatars here, look at the ongoing conflict between them just since I've been reading the forums, and I know I do not understand what is going on here. I simply don't have enough information to know where Mal is coming from, or why Strife behaves as s/he does.

But I know how to defuse resentment caused by authority. I suspect there would be less conflict if forum moderation/review were more transparent. Let me suggest two tiny steps toward that:

-- Report forum banning actions unambiguously on the police blotter. Where is Jumpy? Is he gone forever? Is he gone inworld as well? Such wonderings cause uneasiness, and contribute to resentment. Edit: it would be best to make known the name of the avatar banned, which I believe the blotter does not allow So, some other means ... perhaps a single thread in the moderation forum.

-- Strife, do a status update on your "submitting names for new resmods" thread. Even if you have no clue what is up with the Lindens, to simply say nothing to those who volunteered is lacking in respect toward them. Just say whatever you know. TIA.

One that you have steadfastly refused to entertain privately. No, you don't owe me an audience, but you could have granted me one. You didn't, and instead took the issue out to the public forum.

And incidentally, it has nothing to do with Strife per se. It is that Strife is the last bastion in a failed enterprise that I'd argued against for years. Check out my discussions (I use the term loosely) with Jeska Linden if you wish. Strife's got it easy, comparatively. That he'll neither abdicate or work toward the improvement of his own position is something I don't understand. Strife and I were brief business associates in the long ago, I had no reason to dislike him then; indeed I was quite laudatory and appreciative and supportive of his kinetic art. I have no reason to dislike him now; I abhor the role he has placed himself in.

I realize that I personalized this more than I should have, had there been a team of ResMods, or a Linden back in the chair, it would have been more appropriate.

That having been said...LL needs to get off it's fat hippie *ss and provide a general discussion "forum of record" for their product.
