Hi guys,

I thought I was supposed to get a stipend and a signing bonus for starting a premium account...my account says active but my Linden balance is $0. I signed up 3 days ago if that makes a difference.

Hi Jayyall,

The bonus is now paid 45 days after you go premium, and the stipends are paid weekly, on Tuesday so you should see it then.

Stipends are paid on every Tuesday. As you signed up past that, I'm not sure if you have to go to the next Tuesday (to ahve a full week) or will get paid this comming Tuesday. I am guessing you will get paid this comming Tuesday (times of payment vary, I usually don't get mine until late afternoon EST).

I am around 60 days in and haven't received any bonus. I receive my stipend every tuesday, but I have checked my account all the way back to july 22, and no 1k has been credited to my account that I didn't purchase myself.

I submitted a ticket and asked about the 1K bonus and this is my replay:

Greetings Rottley,

we regret to inform you that the sign-up bonus is granted only to accounts that register as a Premium account; upgrades from Basic are not eligible for the Premium bonus.

Regards,
Joppa Linden

I also didn't get the L$250 for a Basic sign up. Really don't expect anything for signing up.

Upgrade how? Do you mean upgrade from a monthly payment method, or upgrade from the free service? I signed up for premium a day or so after I made my account, and I hadn't agreed to pay anything before that. I had just used the free service, whatever you'd call it. Does that mean I don't get the 1k?

I find it hard to believe they would expect someone to pay $72 sight unseen. I suppose it would help inflate the population of everyone who decided to go premium made a new account. Once you have a name you like and start settling in, though, it's hard to make a new one and start all over. I hope this doesn't mean that that one day of playing free made my account ineligible for the bonus. That wasn't anywhere in the sign up I read.

Anyway, in terms of payment options I have never been anything but premium and I have no bonus after 60 days.

Yes I'm afraid so, you don't get the bonus.

It's a problem in the way that Premium is explained -- the bonus is an incentive to sign on to premium immediately, not people who upgrade a free account into a premium one later. I don't know what the time frame is for determining "later" -- I'm not sure whether there is a day or two grace period or not. In any case, it's pretty poorly explained on the site, in my view.

They don't make it clear, but what they are saying in a round about way without giving out too much infomation is, you must sign up for a premium account when you create your account. If you have a free basic account then upgrade to premium you will not get your bonus.

They do not state this on thier website. Sl need to clearly state this when signing up, you can then choose to go premium straight away or if you want to try it first you could create a new account later when ready for premium.

edit: keep onto them I got my bonus as a good will gesture.

Nice, so they hold out the prospect of giving a $4 rebate for becoming a paying customer - 45 days after paying them, that is - and then they stiff said paying customers because they didn't follow what LL *meant* when they wrote their webpage.

And LL wonders why their retention and conversion rates are frighteningly low. It looks like they are as professional in customer relations as they are in coding; at least they're consistent.

Who would pay for something before they even know if the software works or if they even like it? I have several friends who can't even run SL on their machines. I think they would be a little miffed if they paid first. I was looking forward to that bonus.:(

I was making an alt last week (too hard to terraform new land with IM's coming in left and right...so I was making a landscaper alt!)....I decided to go ahead and make it a premium account at sign-up. The way I read it on LL's sign up page was if you become premium immediately at sign-up time you get $1200L. I did this...paid with paypal (verified account, the same one for my main av). I click "continue" from paypal's page and am sent back to LL's with a message saying "There was a problem processing your payment, your account is set to basic. You may upgrade your account at any time". No option to try again with a CC or anything, there was only a "next" option, which when clicked completed my sign up. I immediately went back and attempted to upgrade, with paypal again, it went through this time...but no bonus because I didn't do it during initial sign up. So that irked me!

I joined in the last week of June, and upgraded to premium on July 1st. 7 weeks later, I haven't had a bean from them by way of bonus or stipend.

But I guess I've got used to LL's customer support being pretty crap.

You need to submit a ticket about the stipend right away but, as others have said, if you didn't sign up as Premium from moment one, you're not eligible for the bonus. It's a signup-as-Premium bonus, not an upgrade-to-Premium bonus, which LL really needs to explain better.

@ Ange: I'd submit a ticket about that too...they should be able to confirm what happened and fix it. Of course, you'd still have to wait the usual 45 days before you received the bonus.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I went back and looked at how they describe the bonus, and I feel at this point it is fraudulent. This is the page I used to make my decision:

http://secondlife.com/whatis/plans.php

There is nothing, zilch, there about making a new avatar to get the bonus. If there had been I would have stayed free and just bought $72 worth of L$. There's nothing there in the fine print, nothing. I know it is not quite $4, but it is the principle of the thing. Take that out of the 'pro' column and I think the 'con' column would have won in terms of a premium membership.

I am going to complain with my concerns, and if they don't do anything you can bet I won't be getting a premium membership when my account comes due again. This, and all the technical problems lately, gives me a very sour disposition toward LL. It's a wonder I'm even getting the $300, then.

I also feel little deceaved, cause the description says nothing bout not paying if upgreading an account. I will file a complain, cause i think they ittentianlly decieve ppl. And yes its not about those 4$, more of the principle.
No fine print nothing, just plain old american way of doing the business- no offend to my fellow americans.

It seems there are following options:

1) You want to get 2000 bonus for upgrade.
- to upgrade you must pay
- to pay you must be registered basic user
- if u r basic account user you dont get 2000 bonus
2) You want to get 2000 bonus for upgrade.
- you are basic user
- you make a new account and befor logging into game you upgrade it to premium.
- both your accounts are blocked, as one of them is your alt and its illegal according to TOS.
- you do not get bonus of 2000ls
3) you have never heard about second life and just come accros SL web page by accident. You have never even played it! Although you have possibility to try it for free you you decide to pay for it. Than your psychiatrist arrives and takes you back to hospital. You get the bonus of 2000!!!
Good luck!

They have tiny little numbers on that page, and if you scroll down and read the number that corresponds to the premium bonus it says "Premium signup bonus is granted to new registrations only. You will receive your signup bonus 45 days after the signup date, assuming your credit card has been accepted."

They do say so on that page.... however I still think that sucks... they should offer the measly bonus to upgrades too in my opinion... not like it will break them, and it would be more of an incentive to upgrade to premium.

I wonder when they changed that one. I upgraded from basic to premium last December and received mine.
