ALT in same SIM

Hi I just started this name as an ALT, i want to know if i am playing multiple characters in the same SIM, if anyone else can tell. I am running 2 copies of SL at once.

Leave media and music streaming turned off for at least one of the avatars. Those are really the only things that might easily reveal your address to anyone other than LL. And clicky things to web sites could be revealing too, if they contain magic strings in the URLs.

AFAIK, no, unless you give it away by doing something like typing replies from the wrong avatar.

Don't minimize the window when switching from one to the other or you will be set to away.

not only that but it is faster switching if both windows are open, it takes some time (depending on ram and time the window has been minimized) to activate the other viewer and delays like that can be a giveaway.

Use ALT+TAB to switch between the 2 viewers. Leave the mouse alone while switching as you may leave one alt staring at the ground if you're not careful.

Haha, I saw a "Master" do this once. He and his 'slave' were arguing and disrupting some small event and did not hush despite being asked to. "Master" told them he had to settle this.

Then he began forgetting which av was which and typing under the wrong name. He didn't seem to realise it at first. HEE

you can disable away for screen changes.

SL will take up more video resources if it's not minimized.

I think land media is the only way someone could tell. so disabling it for one would prevent them noticing (unless you claim on both to hear/see it, when only one is enabled, which would show that someone is saying that they can see it, but isn't connected).

alt games are boring.

Void did you mean trying to guess who's an alt or did you mean being one.

I can see valid reasons (like rp) for wanting more than one 'character' but other than being nosy/causing trouble/veering toward 'disclosure' I can't see valid ones for giving a toss who is an alt of whom.

Even if you don't make any technical mistakes or have the wrong "character" speak, you can be detected by an alert observer...because your alts will never interrupt each other, and while one is talking, the other is ALWAYS silent and unresponsive.

NOTE: I am not, generally, that alert an observer. I can see it if it's pointed out to me, but I probably won't pick up on it unless I have other clues. Like, "Lindal, you dummy, Pip is Pep's alt."

I frequently have myself and an alt on at the same time. Frankly I don't care who knows its an alt there working on an animation or testing permissions etc with me.

I have never understood peoples paranoia about alts either from the hiding the alt side or the detecting the alt side. I have always taken the tac of as long as me and my alt are not harassing anyone or otherwise breaking the TOS who cares that I have 2 toons up at the same time.

Lots of people have tried it. I have run multiple clients exactly ONCE, when my alt Lynnette Weston got married to Trout Recreant's alt, CartelTrustAccount Mumfuzz. Trout presided, and I had to attend the ceremony as Lynnette's guardian.

No head games, everyone was in on the joke. Right after the wedding, everyone whaled on poor Mumfuzz until he was "dead" and stuffed him in a coffin. He did have a tendency to keep popping out of it though.

Running multiples is more work than I care for. I have a hard enough time just keeping Lindal from running into walls.

[EDIT: Darkness, I've got no problems with alts per se. What I despise is when people use them to play head games...to spy on their friends or lovers, and so on.]

My "alt games" consist entirely of flipping the letters in Lucky Chairs.

Sometimes even when I'm alone I forget who I am and sit in the wrong chair, so I'm probably not good enough to mess with people using alts even if I wanted to.

I wish I'd thought of that before creating five "Argents".

You can at least partially get around that by pre-typing chat and hitting enter at the appropriate times.

I've only done this in private to experiment with setting up scenes for making future cartoon strips, I've never been with an alt in public! But I set both windows to small, so they can both be seen on-screen, even if they overlap a bit.

I typically type at 90WPM.... Most are hard pressed to catch my alt play. I usually reveal early anyway. It's all for the LULZ. (^_^)y

Heh, I do that all the time when I'm double-teaming people with Argent & Argent.

In a way, my smilies are a method of showing off. When I don't have an alt around, finishing each chat line with proper punctuation and a >> (^_^) leads people to think I'm running macros. (=_=)

I've challenged people to bash out my =^-^= and it drove them batty with the shift-key alternations. Now that I have a Das Keyboard, I'm turning even moar ebil than ever. (^_^)y

Who can tell in the media stream? the Landowner? or all security/moderators of a sim?

on another note, im glad im not the only crazy one that does this.
