Someone asked about a couple scenes on the many frames I have in my home if they were rl spots... and I told them no all the pictures are sl screenshots of my old home before i had to trim it down to the one small lot and a place i liked... and lots of the many ladies I know (none of the guys sent me picks to hang up so :P ).

And it got me to wonder how many have real life art and photos up in their second life homes

Yep.. I have a Roisin original in my place. A beautiful picture of Mt. Hood.

The skybox that I rent out has two floral pics that I took at the Tucson Botanical Gardens a couple of years ago. I don't have any in my main house but I am thinking of turning an empty room I have into a rl photo gallery.

I usually don't like real life art and photos in my SL home environment because it breaks the illusion somehow.

That said, I do have William Holman Hunt's "The Lady of Shallot" hanging up by the waterfall in my cave. :o It's just so beautiful.

I too have some pictures up in my home that I took in my artsy days,
it's kinda nice having them 'ported' into my SL. ;]

I had actually bought a picture in SL that I liked - and it looked somewhat familiar. I then realized that it looked familiar because I have the exact same picture in my RL house. No wonder I liked it in SL.

I don't like to break the fourth wall with RL photography, but paintings seem okay to me. So yes, I do have RL art. It's my own art currently, but it's a gallery of sorts too, so don't think I'm being selfish. I'd rather look at someone else's art. I already know what mine looks like.

I think SL photography is cool and just as challenging as in RL. I once saw some SL photos that had been post processed to look like ink drawings that were very interesting.

Yes, I have the good fortune of having a very good friend who is also an artist and brings her pictures into SL. I have quite a few of them hanging in my haunted mansion :) Only downside is it seems to brighten the place up a little.

I do, I have my own and the work of friends hanging up. I also have been pushing the boundaries of SL/RL collaboration in my gallery with a few RL sales from SL. Other artists are doing this too, I know Leou the french illustrator has some real originals for sale from the SL galleries, as does another photog in my gallery.. I love what the SomArts gallery did, by putting SL on the big screen during a RL show and sharing the art in both avenues together.

Yep. In my home I have a self-portrait I painted and a picture I took in Rome, and in my Bag End build I have a painting I did of some flowers years and years ago.

I had a photo of the Dalai Lama in my house. Also I made rotating balls with jpgs from photos of flowers, garden buddhas, landscapes, sea life etc.

As a Artist I often asked here so are you a rl artist?
So it makes me wonder if I don't paint the item in rl, with real paints does this mean I am faking it?
And all my artwork and hours I spend digital painting often by hand to make something fake too?
Just curious.
What is real?

FD, your art and works are 'real' as real can be, as seen through the passion you bring out in it.

I currently have four pictures hanging in my house. Two are images of Hokusai prints - I have a small collection of Japanese prints iRL (but nothing by Hokusai, unfortunately and I wanted something similar here.

The other two are photos I've taken. One is a RL photo of a sunset outside my RL house, the sort of sky that makes a good photographer of anyone. The other is an SL photo of a sunset over an earlier SL home that I no longer have the space for.

Yes, I have a selection of RL art in my home that I rotate every month. I do have some SL art that I also put out on the walls.

Some really good friends gave me a copy of their RL wedding picture from the late 1950's and I love it. I think because I grew up in home with all kinds of pictures up on the walls, I don't think anything about it in-world. It is what I'm used to, and I went to many science fiction conventions for almost 20 years. So, I have a mixed bag of art in my RL apartment. Traditional, Native American, ballet, fantasy, science fiction, movie classic poster, landscape, photographs, are what you would see. My home in-world reflects that variation too.

Everyone has different tastes and we all can play with experimenting with new art however we like in-world. That is all part of the fun.

I started making all my own textures, so I guess that is RL art and I have it on all my walls in SL and all my objects too, so I assume it would be correct to say yes to the question.

O.o I never thought of it like that but I guess you are right. Thats means in addition to my friends art - I too create art that I use in my own home :)

What is real?

A canvas A prim a brick wall or psd file ect. any surface is just that until someone comes along to give them life.
does it matter if a poem is written in note pad or by pencil?
you choose the surface you wish to express yourself or your visions you have.
some think art is in the eyes of the critics to decide.
only the creator can decide if it is art or not because it comes from their heart and mind.
not the critics.
don't worry about what others think because they were not there when you were in full glow of creation..
our art seeks it's surface not the other way around.

if someone comes to you telling you it is not art because you made it on a computer instead of what they were programed to see art on.well i would have to wonder who taught them what art really is..art knows no bounds and can show up in any form on any surface *winks*

Too funny, Lil.

I have a picture on the wall of my RL house that was made from digital art. I contacted the artist (in New Zeland) for permission to display it inworld. He was amused and asked that I be sure his URL was displayed on the picture (it is) and that I send him a picture of how it looks inworld, as he doesn't have fast enough broadband to access SL. So I have one piece of art in both places, but I did it on purpose. :)

I am starting to decorate my skybox with RL art. I recently purchased a nice framed castle from GG. It is a real place and I need him to tell me where the photo was taken.

I used RL art meaning photos rather than paintings, but still interesting to hear.

I decided against the RL photo works (and drawings) mainly since it gave me a chance to get pictures of some of my friends in SL and of places I enjoyed.

Odd thing... I have more photos in my SL home than in my RL one... in fact more pictures in general

The art I bought, I think is a framed photo. I am thinking of displaying some of my RL photos as well. I love sharing photos with my friends. "CX"

Not photos, but I have several pieces of 2D and 3D furry art on display, including some I drew myself, and some that I commissioned. Mostly these are portraits of furry characters that belong to friends or myself, from here in SL or from other roleplaying venues.
