Alts, Alts, Alts Does everyone have them?

I don't, just cause I can barely keep up with what I have going on now.

But do you have an alt, and what is the reason?

Land group...get the 10% bonus, without ever having to worry that my group will get disbanded.

yes I have alts. some I use to help while creating (checking permissions, and script functionality.) Some I use to get away from my SL job (sounds funny I know but necessary.)
Some I use to conduct ultra secret black ops for the CIA. (oops did I say that out loud?)

my old main had a different lifestyle and such and when my sl partner who is my rl partner quit playing to go back to another vid game there wasnt much for her to do alone so he helped me create arua so i could go out and have fun and be a bad girl i only log in my old main occasionally when him and i log in to go to close sl family/friends parties

originally i was created to check perms on items she built

Most of my alts are for roleplaying. Sometimes I want to be accepted as someone whose profile shows no traces of being female or furry. Sometimes I play the daughter that my Partner and I had via roleplay in SL, between us. Sometimes I play a serving maid at our castle. Sometimes I want to play a male role. A few alts I got just because I loved the surname, like "Ceera Kitsune" for when I am roleplaying as a Kitsune.

Some are for business. They check permissions on my builds and vendors, and check security access. An alt logged in as a seperate client instance can serve as a photographer, or can give you another viewpoint to check things with while you're building

I also use my alts to secure any of my groups. I'll never worry about having too few members in my groups, since at least two of them are always mine.

Yes I have alts, although it took me a long time to get my first.

One was a forum alt, designed to protect my in-world assets should I get suspended or something for speaking out of turn, but things kept going wrong. I kept logging in with my main by accident and only noticing after I posted, and even though I was upfront about this alt, it still felt a bit false. Walker is *ME*, if you see what I mean. That alt is now used for privacy when I'm building, scripting or texturing.

I also have a Japanese alt. =D Actually, an alt with the name of a character from the Ikki Tousen series. He (like me) has a premium account, his weekly stipend is added to mine once a week, and his 512m2 tier is donated to my land group. He's still a bit of a secret right now, although I'm not using him for nefarious purposes or anything.

I have two alts. The first one was actually my original av but I hated the name so I created the one I currently have a few weeks later. I don't really know why I hang on to him but I do. I bring him out to play from time to time.

The other alt I have for when I just want to be in world and not be bothered. I haven't shared the name with anyone I know and he never has gone to my primary avs home. I use it if I'm not feeling well or am tired and just want to log in for a bit but am not in the mood to chat and dont want to be unsociable.

Hehe, I have at least 6 other alts maybe 7, its hard to keep track of all the characters in this story. All have there own unique special purpose and some are only allowed out for certain occaasions.

For example, I recently created a character named Itchy Lomu and dressed him as one of the greatest ALL BLACK'S in history; Jonah Lomu.

All he gets to do is go to Rugby parties at the moment but hopefully someone one day will create a rugby game within SL and I have a ready made character, hehe.

I have some alts too. For many of the reasons already mentioned. What I think is funny is how they have grown to have there own set of friends, many of whom are alts of my friends.
I keep one on the newbie Orientation Island to help out and to scare off grifers. In fact she’s ARd a griefer there. LOL
What really cracks me up is checking the profile of an attractive AV and seeing that the account is like 2 days old. Most newbies haven’t figured out how to answer an IM in that short of time let alone have upgraded skin and hair with expensive clothes and a well thought out profile. That’s a sure sign of an alt.

My use of alts:

1) Assure permanent group existence, so that thousands of US dollars worth of group-owned land doesn't go "poof" after 48 hours if a group drops to 1 member.
2) Test things. For some silly reason, you can't buy your own stuff (can you? it's quite possible I'm doing something wrong).
3) Buy some land in a pinch without going into a ridiculous tier level on my main account.
4) Have the "maintenance man" put on tight little shorts and go help out a hotel tenant with some "problem." Yeah, they know it's me, but it amuses the tenant and the proprietor both.

I run security. It's always nice to have an alt no one can trace to me that can go in and look around. I've also gotten quite good at playing a "n00b" *snickers*

But yes, I have a "main" alt for land group, and testing of builds and permissions for sales. Also works great for testing automated security systems without fear of corrupting my Main with a bad script.

For all RP and interaction, I use me.

i'v only the two characters at the moment as i'm still fairly new to SL, Dunkin was my first and Crunch is his Brother and my new main alt, crunch is an Ogre and quite big, making it hard to make clothes and such to sell to smaller characters so i use Dunkin for that kind of work

I have an Alt to use when I am building things and want to be undisturbed. My alt has exactly one friend, my RL/SL partner. Just so she'll know why there's an odd "T" on the minimap when she's at home (I use a 300m platform to build on).

Occasionally, my alt will go out dressed as a furry (I like to play with different furry avs, just for fun). My partner just doesn't understand any of the alternate "lifestyles" on SL, especially furries, so I make sure when she does see my alt, he's dressed just one level above a newb (has prim hair, but base skin and freebie clothing).

I got two alts because I went to start a group and needed two more Avs. As I don't have any friends, I created two as group members.
My first alt, Rage, he's my builders labourer, helps with permissions and tests purchasing.
Second alt, Sandy, she was my manequin, when I got to make clothing. A helpful model for positioning couple animations and if it ever went far enough would have been the owner of Sandy's Fashions. ( Can't see that happening now.)

I made 2 alts, a female who started to look too much like my main, and a male (when there was a thread about male skins.)

I still can't find a male skin I like, so he's not doing much of anything lately. Maybe I'll play with him tonight.

My female, I'm trying to do her with freebie stuff only, no money on her.

My alts are boring, like my main.....lol.

I'm too afraid to explore the dark side of SL.

About 1/3 of the 9 million registered members are alts, according to Ll statistics.
