What about pictures taken in SL? How does the TOS affect that? A friend of mine posted a pic in her profile that someone else had sent her outside of SL. It was a compromising pic of her best friend f******* her ex-boyfriend with a caption about trust. Was this picture a violation of TOS? And if yes, how so? How do you control someone taking a pic when there is no such thing as locks on doors? She didn't take the pic, it was given to her, but the "friend" who screwed her over was stalking her profile and supposedly reported her for a TOS violation.
Can someone point me in the right direction to find the entire TOS printed or posted somewhere?

Well first of all profiles have to be PG. Beyond that you can't disclose anyone's real life details, so I would think a picture of someone from RL would be in violation of that.
But a more important question is... why do people feel the need to slag their ex-BF/GFs in their profiles..? I've always thought it a bit high schoolish, and I avoid people that do stuff like that in their profiles.

It was an SL pic, not a real life pic. People post naked pictures in their profiles all the time. I have seen real life pictures of boobs and crotches more times than I can count in various profiles. So a PG profile is nonsense.
As for why, I don't blame her. She is hurt and devastated by the betrayal. She has a right to vent her feelings and make it very clear to those 2 people what they did was beyond disgusting. These are people who are all friends in real life.

From: someone Q: Someone in Second Life is taking pictures, screenshots, or video of Residents without their permission, or in private areas.
A: Residents are entitled to a reasonable level of privacy with regard to their Second Lives. Screenshots or video taken without permission, in an area where Residents reasonably expect privacy, might violate Linden Lab's rules against disclosure; or, more generally, might constitute harassment. From the KB.

Kitty, can you tell me where to find that in the TOS??
And again, I stress, my friend DID NOT take the pic. It was sent to her.

That quote is from the Community Standards, at http://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php, provided twice above. You can find it without asking for a link that has already been given twice by highlighting part of the text from the quote and pasting it into Google. For example, highlight "Residents are entitled to a reasonable level of privacy with regard to their Second Lives", copy it, then go to Google.com and paste that into the Google search field. The Community Standards url will be one of the first links. Once you get to the page, you can use your browsers text search to find the part of the text you want to see, or you could read the whole thing. It's Section 4, Disclosure. The CS is copied in the wiki at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LL:Second_Life_Community_Standards.

Pardon me, I did not realize that was taken DIRECTLY FROM the TOS. The version I read had no mention of pictures and/or video. Also, no one's information was disclosed. No names were used. RL OR SL, no conversations or private IM's were disclosed, so I am still UNSURE as to how this picture is a direct TOS violation.
"Screenshots or video taken without permission, in an area where Residents reasonably expect privacy, might violate Linden Lab's rules against disclosure; or, more generally, might constitute harassment."
This statement is NOT a part of the SL TOS on the main links I was provided with.
Is it also everyone's right to be rude when someone asks for help? Guess I am not as smart as you. Want to talk about intolerance?
I am trying to help a friend. I AM reading the TOS, but it IS lengthy and convoluted and I wanted to make sure I have the correct information. Sorry that is such a crime, as for the links provided, much thanks to Seven and Eli for taking the time to help me out. Much appreciated.
As for what my friend has in her profile, I DON'T care. I think she has every right to post what she wants. But the people who fucked her over think she doesn't.

Apart from anything else, if the pic is x-rated, it's against the ToS, regardless of how many other people put x-rated pics in their profiles. Profiles must be PG. If someone ARs an x-rated profile, LL will deal with it, but LL don't proactively police profiles as far as we know.

Not that I thought the rule about profiles being PG was nonsense, it was the idea that people would follow the rule... The pic she had wasn't x-rated. It was compromising and suggestive of 2 AVIS. NOT real people. On the REAL PEOPLE issues, I have seen REAL BOOBS, REAL CROTCHES and REAL PENISES. Was I offended, not really. More amused than anything else, and certainly not impressed or turned on. And... whenever I was in world, I had no desire to be petty enough to turn someone in because of their profile. That's just ridiculous.

The quoted passage that Kitty provided and said was from the "KB", which is the Knowledge Base, which until recently was a separate place distinct from the Wiki, TOS, CS, etc., but which has now been incorporated into the wiki, appears at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Someone_in_Second_Life_is_taking_pictures,_screenshots,_or_video_of_Residents_without_their_permission,_or_in_private_areas. I'm not trying to be rude when I tell people how I find things, I'm trying to teach people how to find things. The place linked to above does not have "Q" and "A" in it, so if Kitty didn't add the Q and A, then it probably appears in some other place that didn't appear in my search results, or she posted something from an earlier version, or some such.

Avatar nudity is considered "Mature" content and violates the "PG" guidelines that are placed upon allowable content for profiles. Along with swear words and examples of actual nudity/pornography, the rules are enforced strictly by the Abuse Report system. (^_^)
Linden Lab will not police Second Life. So, people will have to be Abuse Reported by another resident for any action to be taken. (^_^)
It's as I always say - AR or it didn't happen. (^_^)y

(the sent outside of SL comment makes me wonder.) If so: Its a privacy violation unless you have some form of consent to distribute by -BOTH- parties to the sex act in the original photo. - That's a RL lawsuit waiting to happen, even if its not a TOS violation within SL. In some places, there may be an additional criminal sanction. It is very likely a ToS violation as well. If its an Sl photo - then you only have a potential ToS issue.

Not sure how many more times can stress this was an SL pic. It was AVATARS, not REAL people.
The matter has been "resolved" so to speak.
I don't foresee LL taking any action anyway. I think they have much better things to do anyway.
off topic, but... A betraying act was followed by someone reacting in hurt, who was reported for petty and vicious reasons. What is it with people who think they can hurt people and then do whatever they can to hurt them some more just because they got caught with their clothes off and feel guilty? I just don't get it. Sad sad world, RL AND SL, that we live in.

What is it with people who cam in and snap pix of people, who stalk and harass them, and post embarrassing photos and captions for all to see? And then who whine about it, and think the rules apply to everyone except them? ...Sad world, isn't it? 1. You obviously did not read through all the posts to see that I was not saying the rule was nonsense, but the sense that people would FOLLOW THE RULES. 2. No, no one has a right to humiliate or harass anyone, yet she was humiliated to begin with. I never said it was smart move, I just said she had a right to vent. 3. SHE didn't take the pic, she didn't humiliate or harass anyone. No one but the 2 people it was about would have had a clue and one of them was stalking her profile. Nor did she stalk anyone. Where do you get off suggesting she stalked anyone? 4. The pic was completely unidentifiable. 5. SHE hasn't whined about it to anyone. *I* was looking for information on TOS and the guidelines therein. *I* offered MY opinion on the situation. 6. I never said the rules didn't apply to her. 7. The saddest thing are the intolerant, holier than thou attitudes that I have encountered on this forum and in SL who attack people who are just asking questions and treat people like they are ignorant a**holes with no brain if they aren't up to the "regulars" standards. 8. Obviously you are perfect Melita, commit no acts of hurt, make no mistakes and walk on water. Oh and obviously have no understanding of the basics of human nature or a heart that feels.

I am so tired of the term "Profile stalking". A profile is public. What your friend or anyone else write there, is like walking down the street with a big sign in RL and then get upset because someone read that sign. Stop calling it stalking. If you write it in your profile, you want it read. (General "YOU" You just use the term "stalking" so we shall feel sorry for your friend. I think the term "Profile stalking" is totally silly and everyone using it isn't taken seriously by me. I am sorry for your friend, because she was hurt. I understand her need to vent. I have no problem understanding how she feel. But profile rules are profile rules. You can not get away with "No one follow the rules" if you are caught.
