Do you dislike it when you have a disagreement with someone on the forums and they IM you in-world to tell you they resent your remarks and then drop their object full of Chats/Pics/Proof on you?

Well it just happened to me last night. So now I feel rather put off to engage in threads where this person is leading the Openspace "Spare LL" charge.

I want to remark and discuss and exchange and disagree all here in the forums. If you want to talk about the topic in-world, then make the offer in the thread, orr send a PM. But please, do not follow the person in-world with your disagreement to prove your point as well as let them know you 'resent' their words - its kind of stalkerish.

It is fine and dandy to converse about forum stuff in-world, i am not saying not to, i just think it needs to stay here (in the forum) and not be pursued in-world unless invited - especially if it is just to tell someone "hey i resent what you said".

Get over it.

er it.

Holy cow, you too?

I posted something in here a while ago about Avilion, and got an IM from the sim owner a couple of days ago telling me my opinion was half cocked and misinformed. Long and short of it is, I think she's full of shit and told her not to ever contact me again. Of course I received the coveted banning from the ballroom.

Go me!

By the way, all I said was "the music there sucks so I keep it turned off, it's laggy, and they get their panties in a wad over people with face lights."

You should have seen the picture she sent me. Apparently you have to have some advanced setting turned on to even see anything she was harping about.

Frankly, I find their claim that face lights ruin the enjoyment of the ballroom is pretty silly. It never bothered me if someone had a face light on or not.

You must do what feels right for you.

But I would strongly urge you to consider NOT letting this person achieve what they apparently intended: convincing you to refrain from posting.

It's always a sad day when bullies are rewarded.

you log in to each sperate so it's not the same place..
tailing someone in a forum is considered harassing so crossing over from here to the grid would be as well.

I do the same with particles. Can't stand them. Facelights don't bother me.

I had the opposite. Someone stalking me in the forums because they didn't like me in-world.

Stalking is stalking, it sucks.

It's sad when people can't have a reasonable disagreement on forums without needing to pitbull the damn thing to death in world. Forums are for discussion, and sometimes opinions differ. If people can't handle healthy debate without going off the deep end, they probably should not be on the forums.

Yeah I made a flippent comment about a certain texture store owner a few months back and got sent an essay in world telling me exactly where I had gone wrong in life. I agree it should stay on the forums.

Also, if people can't handle others going off the deep end they should not be on the forums.

Moreover, if you participate here you give up privacy, both here and inworld, as you have the same identity in both places. If I discover I dislike (or like) someone in one place why should I be prevented from taking action wherever we meet? If someone was rude to you at work would you invite him to your birthday party at your home?

I've muted a few people who used to crash me in a weekly event we attend and now their particle footprints and compulsion to connect audio files to everything they say are no longer a problem. And I don't crash!

While I haven't told anyone specific that their music sucks, if the club is popular enough, your comment should not have mattered since they have their clientelle and music is highly subjective.

The behavior of some people suggest maybe they need to raise the age here - or at least somehow raise the IQ requirement.

If you have a personal disagreement or issue with someone, then surely IM is the right place to try and resolve it.

Sending an IM (even if its rude) is hardly tailing or stalking. If someone wants to be rude to me, I think I would prefer a private message than a public one.

Many posts here are an airing of personal vendettas thinly disguised as a request for information.

absolutely ........we are all here to freely comment, agree, help and disagree with our fellow residents posts. We can make our point, shut up and read the replies. Opinions vary - we ask a question, we get loads of diferent answers, we take up the help or be thankful for advice as we see fit. If this is taken in-world and I get a counter from anybody based on what goes on here, then I view it as harrassment and take the appropriate action.

Briana - best thing to do would be to actually tell the jerk to keep that discussion to the forum and that you'll be ignoring him/her inworld. Then mute. :p

I think if a dicusssions is raised on forums then it should not be taken to IM in world. If you want to make it private them use the Forum's PM.

Face lights considered harmful
11-04-2008 01:59
From: Sredni Eel

Face lights actually CAN spoil the ballroom experience.

Consider: the designers put together a structure with carefully placed mood lighting. Then avatars enter wearing face lights, and the effect of the structure's lighting disappears or gets distorted because the viewer can only display the six nearest lights. Even worse: multiple avatars dance around wearing face lights, and you get constantly shifting lighting as the movement of the avatars keeps changing which six lights are closest to you.

As somebody pointed out, unchecking Advanced/Rendering/Attached Lights fixes the problem. Perhaps that should be the default viewer setting, and make the people who want to use face lights make the effort to make them work. Or perhaps LL could offer a land option that would make that rendering change for any avatar present on their parcel, allowing land owners to design lighting with the expectation that people will actually see it as designed. The users of low-end computers who have lighting set to "Sun and moon only" won't see it, but there isn't any help for that.

I would not invite them to my birthday party. Nor would I hang around outside their house, track their movements, or harass them via the mail/telephone. I would not give them dirty looks in a restaurant, or flip them off if I saw them driving down the street. I would not try to discredit them to my employers, and I would not attempt to get others to side against them at work. I would instead just ignore them. Their rudeness would not impact my life to any great degree, sometimes people are just rude.

I wouldn't get a gun and shoot them six times through the head either.
