hello everyone.. i have been a premium member for a few months and finally bought a 512 piece of land. but when i go into my account status page it says

allowed holdings 1024
current holdings 512

now i understand the current holdings :D but i don't understand the allowed holdings? does this mean I'm only allowed 1024?? i thought i could buy as much land as i chose .

You are allowed to have 1024 sqm of land without having to pay more tier.

If you go above 1024sqm you are in the next tier level and pay per month more for your premium membership.

I'm sorry, Zoha is mistaken.

At some point you must have selected a 1024 square meter tier level. The tier level you set on the website doesn't mean you're paying for that much tier, it means that's the level you'll be warned about paying more tier, and that's the level you're allowed to draw down to for donations to group. If you use more than 512 square meters (by buying land or donating to a group) you'll be charged an extra $5 a month regardless of what it says you're allowed.

Argent,

If the OP is allowed 1024 sq. m., they're already paying that extra $5 a month. Zoha is entirely correct therefore in their response. They are allowed 1024 sq. m. before they pay more in tier than they are currently paying.

I think I agree with Argent here, this comes up from time to time and his explanation fits the usual answer, however we need the Op to tell us what he's paying to be sure.

So...

1. the OP is already paying the $5 extra?
2. If the OP only buys 512 sqm, will they stop being billed the $5 extra?

I ask this because I have blown past my tier, but then dropped down to only owning base tier (512+10% per donating group member). I'm wondering if I will continue to be billed higher tier, or if it will automatically drop down the first month I never go above tier for.

Your tier levels never drop automatically, unfortunately. If you own enough land to go into a higher tier bracket, and later you cut down on land enough to qualify for a lower bracket, you must manually choose to adjust your bracket lower or you will continue to pay the higher rates.

You can set your tier on the web page to any value you want and you won't pay until you buy the land or donate that tier to a group.

Good thing I asked this before the first month of it was up. Where do I go to do that?

This isn't true, I tiered down previously and it automatically altered my payments.

I think Rocky may be referring to group land, where you have to explicitly reduce your donation.

A few months ago, I sold-off all my mainland, almost 1/4 of a sim. In my case the below facts apply:

a) The monthly tier (land-fee) was automatically reduced from $75 to $0 after a month.

b) My allowed holdings is still 16,896 sq.m. That certainly doesn't indicate that I can own up to 16,896 sq.m. mainland without paying tier :) (regrettably) but that I won't get a highlighted warning about increased tier, should I purchase mainland at some point, until that limit is exceeded.

Right. So: You are a Premium member. You own 576 m2. You don't pay tier on the first 512 m2, but the extra 64 m2 you own bumps you up to the first tier level, $5 US per month. At this tier level you can own up to 1024 m2 without bumping up into the next level.

Unless you want to increase your holdings, I suggest renting tier. Elanthius Flagstaff and others offer this service. You can rent the 64 m2 that you need for L$16 per week, or about L$72 per month, a considerable savings over the $5 US per month you're paying now.

You can buy more land upto 1024 without paying more tier.
That extra 64sq.m over your 'free' 512 is costing you $5.00 per month now.

"Renting tier" doesn't mean you don't own the land, it just means you're paying for just the land you need.

They dont rent land to you.

I think it works like this, you make a group, deed the land you own now to your new group, Elanthius (or whoever) joins your group and donates the tier you require for a fee (tier rent).
Cheaper way to gain the tier you need and more scaleable.

I think 7 or 8 dollars is next. Not sure offhand though. And yes basically from 512 to 1023 is one fee. 1024 and up you go. Each amount is a tier jump all the way up into the hundreds of usd per month.

What happens if/when the land baron/tier renters go under?
