From: Mickey Vandeverre That's not really a fair assessment. I know many people who do this, myself included....and it's because they have many dimensions and facets to their personalities that they are forced to mesh together in RL. Here, you can take each dimension, and expand, and concentrate solely on that dimension. .... This issue I have with that is.. if they are such different facets, why do they have the same friends? I don't have a problem with alts that say; A=gorean love slave, B=NOR ninja assassin, C=Bob The Builder, D=Newbie helper person. Those are separate facets of a personality. But when your alts have the same circle of friends, weird. EDIT -- And what Smith said too.

From: Smith Peel Your friends *know* you are the alts, yes? That's different than just showing up one day and being like, "Hi, I'm a totally new person you don't know!" Yes, they do. But I've had friends show up as someone else (undisclosed)....and I don't get mad about it. Although I wouldn't do that. One male showed up as a female, and we became very close female friends for months, before he fessed up. I had no issues with it (one of my other friends went ballistic over it)....it was different for me....I thought it was totally cool.

From: Patasha Marikh And seriously, I would recommend you do not invest any more emotionally into SL that you would an episode of Scooby Doo.
This is starting to feel like the bottom line. That's too bad, but that's the internet for you, that it can harden you like that.

I would want that, for myself, to be 'totally cool' about that situation. But I am afraid I'd be more like your friend. Not if I'd been aware from meeting the female alt, but being told later after who knows how many intimate talks, whatever, the main might even have been mentioned in the talks, and ugh. Tell me up front and I'll be ok with it, hide it or tell me way down the line I seem to have a problem with it.

Well, I suppose it worked because the talks were not that revealing....concerning anything I had going on with a man.....I just didn't share that. We went shopping and swapped evening gowns and shoes mostly. I was flattered that he would want to get to know me without all the man/woman bs that tends to creep in. We never got together romantically after that - we just remained really cool friends. Not a bad way to go about it.

Ok, so, the circumstances made a difference, the very casual nature of the friendship, nothing of much importance was shared. If it had been would you have felt differently when you learned the truth down the line? (I have totally derailed this poor guy's thread, I apologize, OP>

I'm pretty sure that if he were the man I was involved with at the time....that it would be a different story....but can't say for sure. So far as I know, that hasn't happened yet. But you never know! In that case, it's best to always say nice things about your partner, if you're going to kiss and tell to your friends. lol

After knowing someone for 2 years they just told me this week that they thought I was an alt when we first meet. And I asked them what makes them think I'm not? They got really paranoid.
