I remember losing control of my alt almost 2 years ago. Even since then, she's been roaming the grid causing tons of havoc with every step she takes.

*smiles amused* Well, I have two alts and it SAYS in their profile that they are my alts. People don't seem to care one way or another about it, probably because I am so blunt about it. I tried that - made a builder alt, and put right in the profile "This is an alt I made for building..." with some explanation. If anyone cared, I told them I was Seven Okelli. Even so, this woman got very suspicious and nervous and asked me SO MANY questions. I could see was freaking out. At last she said, "I think you should examine your reasons for wanting to make an alt." I took it out of my profile. |

She needs to examine her own reasons for butting into your business....whether you gave an explanation or not. |

She needs to examine her own reasons for butting into your business....whether you gave an explanation or not. /me laughs True. I was kind of puzzled and miffed, and she explained that an ex-boyfriend had stalked her through an alt, so she was very sensitive to alts... but even though I was - not her ex-boyfriend - not even a boy - quite clear about what I was doing - upfront as to my main account she was still very nervous BUT once I took the statement that I was an alt out of my profile, she calmed down. The point being, people's objections to alts are not always rational. |

Fixed it for ya! Pep (Getting there? )I guess I regard "being rational" as an inherent quality, even it it's not always used. Even though a person is by definition a rational being, they can still behave irrationally or say irrational things. Getting where? Do you mean am *I* more rational? I don't want to make any prognosis yet, but I'm calmer. |

It's pretty irrational to "accuse someone of being an alt", given that it is 100% impossible for anyone to prove that they are NOT something. You can not prove a negative.
Prove that you are NOT Barak Obama. Just try. Even if you set up a webcam, I could say that you have a friend or a hired individual standing in for you, and saying what you want me to hear. Fly out and meet me in person, and show me that the person I suspect you are an alt of is in-world right now, and you're not typing their words. It could still be someone else at that moment, using your account to fool me. Or the person I am with could be a hired stooge, sent to decieve me. You can't prove that you are NOT someone. Some people get off to a fast start in SL. Within 30 minutes of firing up my first account, I had a high-end Furry avatar, and great clothes, because I was willing to whip out my credit card, buy L$, and dive right in. And I knew a lot to start with because I read almost all the on-line materials before I ever logged in. Though I still bumped into walls a lot, and lacked a number of basic skills. And a few days later I didn't do that... _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Honestly, if someone told me that, I'd feel inclined to flat out call her a delusional paranoid. I think I'm going to ADD into the main tab of my alt profiles who they belong to. Its in first life profile at the moment. Because their first life is my second life... making them my thirds... ![]() _____________________

The point being, people's objections to alts are not always rational. See - that just doesn't make sense to me. If she thought her X was stalking her through an alt - why the heck didn't she mute that av? Why would you continue to let someone bother you? I get really tired of dragging my alt out to go dancing.....and getting rude comments about the empty profile...not to mention the men that think they are getting stalked by an old GF. Although it is a pretty good indicator of possible neurosis on their part. What Dread describes happens way too often. It's not someone's business to judge and it's not a call for anyone to make. No one owes any kind of an explanation. Everyone here is an "Alt." |

Well, emotion can often trump "inherent" logic in those who don't have the required self-control. Pep (Intelligence is the ability to forecast the consequences of your actions.) I guess if nothing mattered and life held no surprises, that would be true. A life that can be predicted is not worth living. |

She didn't continue, and she wasn't bothering me really. It was one conversation. Most of the time this alt is in a sandbox building. But sometimes people talk to me, and sometimes for various reasons I go down from the sandbox and talk to people. This woman had a paid position on this sim, so I couldn't just blow her off. I'm sure I could have left my profile intact, but taking the "alt" line out was simpler and had zero consequences. It didn't make any difference to me, but a big difference to her. |

To make the delusional paranoids feel better? Huh? ETA: I mean feel inclined to give all that information on your profile - not feel inclined to call someone a delusional paranoid. I'm inclined to use that phrase. |

Pep (Intelligence is the ability to forecast the consequences of your actions.) Isnt that what crows do? That's what it said on BBC the other night. They poke a straw in some corpses' eye and scraffle around in the old socket and then if it isnt long enough they pick a longer one. That's intelligence - having your brains and eating it too. Oh - I didn't mean why would YOU continue to be bothered ....wasn't clear on that. I meant why would SHE continue to be bothered with suspicions about another av that she determined to be an alt.....and then why would she transfer that to every av she runs across. |
