One consumer's view:
> The only furniture, clothing or anims I would buy on SLX would be very cheap ones. If I am going to spend any real amount, I like to see it 3D first. I buy gadgets, textures, etc. there.

> SL is different from RL in that you can actually have the delight of speaking to your item's creator, if you choose. I treasure this luxury and have incredible loyalty to places where I know the creator. Nothing on SLX etc. can replace that.

> I use freebies if I love them, and don't care who recognizes them. My favorite pair of capris is free at WR. Tough noogies. People compliment me on them when I wear them ... I would be amazed if people recognize freebies all the time.

> Like RL, in SL people use things for reasons of their own. I have an awful AO that I use sometimes because an old animator friend gave it to me and I'm sentimentally attached to two of the worst poses! They remind me of him.

Nothing wrong with freebies. Someone went to the trouble to make it and is kind enough to give it away. Some of my favorites are freebies as well. Except for shoes. I never really saw any that I liked.

Chinese furniture is good. But you are already wanting to redecorate after an hour.

Well Atashi I would think the anims would be worth more than the furniture. So you pay 10L for a couch or bed and remove and re-use the anims.

This woman obviously has no respect for the content creators on here. Greed is a terrible thing. I guess it was greed when she used to, in the old days, buy the newbie 512 plots for such a low price that they couldn't afford to buy another plot. Happened to a friend of mine who has now been in SL a long time. I have no respect for her and shall stop using Slx.

I like the sparkly shoe freebie from Awesome designs. :)

There are decent freebies out there, but people like variety and have such different tastes. And with as much ground as there is to cover, she will end up spending a lot of money trying corner an uncornerable market.

My starter closet was filled with freebies, nice freebies. I got spoiled by that and later when I saw great quality sold at 120 lindens. And I've only bought one pair of shoes, actually quite surprised and pleased with their quality. On the other hand, fear that I'm wearing something someone created and then had stolen leads me to mostly wear the clothing I bought . . .with the fear still there but lessoned. Actually, a lot of the time (what, 40-55% of the time? maybe) I just wear my own, as then I know, but as mine is very simple or very revealing . ..

That's me. But I bought the pie shop business in a box off of SLX, so it's ok for me to sell it, right? It's full perm pie! Or it was. I just nibbled a few prims off the edge.

As long as the pies match.........*Did you happen to buy anything else while over at SLEx?*

For me it's more the fear of running into someone wearing the exact same thing as me. I know, I know, Vanity, Thy Name is Woman.

I'm not afraid of that so much - I like high quality items and I expect that certain places with known quality goods are going to have many sales and someone out there is wearing something I own.

Just a point - Mrs C is Chinese, but I am pretty sure she (and her business) are actually in Germany.

I've definitely read that she has workers in China.

P.S. Great thread title!

So far as I can tell, this is more likely to happen with things from Blaze than with any freebie!

Dang . . I think I wrote my request after you wrote this, but I didn't read this first (unless your name is a long string of numbers, your information appears to have not been sent to me, though I think one of the numbers might be your underwear size . . odd to see that).

I sure hope everyone that is against the "sweat shop" chinese employees of Anshe is against the Real World unfair trade practices China engages in.

Since the subject of this thread is just a symptom and in no way at all a cuase.

Well, after thinking about it, my opinion is, people who want cheap stuff will buy cheap stuff. People who want quality stuff will buy quality stuff. If this has any effect at all, it will be to 'thin the herd' a bit, killing off some creators who's products are weak, unless they find a way to improve quickly. As there seems to be a huge glut of people selling things right now, especially the BIAB stuff, I personally can't see that as a bad thing. But only time will tell how it all plays out. :)

Sure, this is also why I make clothes but don't sell. Can't compete (as in, I believe I'm in the mid-range of quality). Had someone that was interested, but that didn't go anywhere. I do feel like going to that New York sim (one of them), though, and standing around on a corner and whispering "want to buy this . . want to buy this . .. cheap . . quality merchandise, cheap price . .. " Of course, since a lot of my stuff is revealing . . I'll end up arrested for solicitation.

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

haha Lexxi.

I just yanked all my items off SLX. Forget that. When I get inworld, I am deleting the magic boxes and all their stuff. It's a crying shame. SLX shot itself in the foot.

I'm not sure I quite understand this. If things are being sold too cheaply on the SLEx, the rest of us ought remove our products? I prefer to leave mine there, at reasonable prices. Let the customer decide. Besides, the SLEx is commission based only--no cost to keeping things there.

Last rumor I heard was, Mrs. C had her 10$L Items recalled due to Lead Poisoning. :D

I kid, I kid.

Seriously though, it sounds like a good idea, but like others have said, I have several folders of "freebies" where I only used 1 or 2 items. The rest just sit there alone. Unwanted. Like Misfit Toys.
