Do you use separate alts for work and socialising?

My Alt is nothing but a model and test dummy. However.. Dressed Very well.

Nope. I never use an Alt...I just use my avatar like a morphing doll and do whatever I want with her. It's still me....work or play....what my avatar looks like on a given day is totally up to my whims.

I do the socialising and I do the creating. I never morph myself, perhaps that's why I have an alt or two. I have one that's a black floating ball called X7 Mubble which can only communicate with pre-programmed remarks - it's really there to test perms and act as a group saver. It says in its profile that it belongs to me.

I also have a human-form alt that is there to speak up for me if, woot forbid, anything bad happened to my account.

Ceera Murakami is mainly my work account - she may socialize, but is always "on call" for customer support. She gets interrupted a lit with incoming IM's, or has to fit her socializing in between work tasks, or multitasking them while working. (Like being on IM to a friend and chatting socially, whoe busy building).

Ceera Kitsune is for socializing. She isn't on a Friends List with any of my Business clients. Her Profile acknowledges her as Ceera M's alt, but clearly states that if In'm on as Ceera K, I'm "here to play, not here to work".

And there are other alts that I have which have no connection at all publicly to Ceera. Those are almost all for socializing, though a few are for testing content and access restrictions and other functional testing.

I have two alts that, at the time, were created for specific rp reasons. However, Czari is so busy that now one alt is basically storage for excess inventory and the other is my "banker." Once in awhile when I just want peace without IM's, group notices, etc., I'll pull one of them out and wander the world a little.

I have gazillion alts for no particular reason- this is the me that mostly gets around though two others make cameos

But today I snuck in for a couple minutes to work on a piece I have been playing with for days... instantly had the usual hellos, which I appreciate- where would we be with out our friends? And yes I could have set busy- but even with busy you do get IM's you just don't have to choose to respond- and what if u have an inventory offering... so- I never do.

Gave me an idea though- that and the thread about different creators, same product... now everyone who does know me, knows my store; my goods of course, show me as the creator- would it be possible for LL to make it so that your alt - maybe somehow registered as an "Official Alt" could do the building but your Main show as creator? Does that sound Jirable to you guys?

I use completely seperate alts to run seperate businesses. I have 3 main av's, 2 are pretty successfull at business, the other one is a lazy and a bit of a slacker.

Don't have time for socialising but on the rare occasion I do need to attend an event it's normally related to business, i.e. the opening of a custom sim for example so I would obviosuly use the AV associated with that business.

Now if i were planning to go off and frollick about with a sheap or whatever it is you crazy kids do in SL then I would definitely do it with an unknown Alt.

No I don't, but I wish I had the foresight to have set it up that way. Its hard to get any work done now that I have so many friends.

I have no alts. I don't work in SL.

This account is actually an alt that has taken over -- created to go a different direction than the RP that my original main was doing. Eventually, I tired of that RP and came to use this account for all SL stuff, since this was the account that was the socializing one anyway and had made so many Forum friends.

I now use the original main and another alt just to test permissions on stuff as I learn how those things work and I also used them to test out various things related to the age-verification crap. Additionally, I have one male alt just to make it easier to adjust various Couple pose balls without having to constantly put a male form on one of my female alts.

I have one alt for testing permissions and another to act as a bank account.... poor things don't get to do anything fun

I find it very interesting that many people don't think it's necessary because it certainly _used_ to be seen as such; to overcome the problem of having to snub your friends who want to hang out while you're busy working - but then when the work is done, you have no friends anymore. The interesting thing is if this has happened because people have become more tolerant (good) or because it's now difficult or impossible to both create and socialize as a single human, let along a single avatar (bad).

No. I have two alts that I use for models and for banks. I occasionally call my male alt to test dances and stuff when I can't round up a friend.

I never understood that mindset that in SL we are supposed to be available and visible to everyone at everytime. Deciding not to spend time with a particular friend, or no one at all is not a snub in my book. RL friends don't get offended when you aren't at their beck and call, at least not mine. Why should it be any different here?

*nod* And it might be the case that's true on SL now. The problem comes when you have a user whose only interest in SL is socialising - or, especially, RP in less-popular fields. In this case they can be in the position where, if you don't want to meet up with them, there is nothing for them to do but log out. Some will see this is a snub and others will, for example, go and join another RP, so that when you want to do that you become the one left out.

I have 5 alts. Two I like to twin up with when I can find a cool enough freebie outfit. One is my original main from back when I didn't have a computer that can run SL. And two are secret, mostly for messing around. All of them were made when the opportunity for a cool name came up. (^_^)y

But, when it comes to social -vs- productivity, I do everything. My alts are best reserved for crash-recovery for time sensitive things.... Like blitz builds and toob races. =^-^=

Yuu became especially useful when I was falsely ARed and suspended once. I was able to get inworld and start making contacts fast to find out what was going on, and within a week I got a Linden response admitting to errors made and apologizing for the outcome. (^_^)y

I know we were happy to see Yuu when you couldn't be you. And then we were happy to see you come back as you, not Yuu.

I used to create and didn't socialize.
Then I stopped creating and socialized a bit.

Now I play CIV and read forums.

I killed my alts, all except for HeiferInternational... she's just around to keep my business group open, and to act as a separate bank account for charity stuff. Everything else is just Oryx.
