Because such things *can* be used, but only on willing victims. Not unlike... well... "other" attachments.

Actually it can be used, if you use it on someone who is willing. Example; you have a best friend, you play a trick on him, he laughs. No harm, no foul. Play the trick on someone you don't know, who may be involved in something they deem important, harm and foul, followed by AR. Fine line admitted, but that is the loop hole.

It does sound silly, but if you replace "fart hud" with "whoopie cushion," and SL with RL, and think of it that way--then slipping a whoopie cushion under your wife's chair would probably make everyone laugh. Unless maybe you had company, and then you might get a dirty look and a pissed off wife.
On the other hand, slipping a whoopie cushion on a bar stool, under the butt of someone you don't know, who maybe looks like a kindly fellow, but is actually, say, a homicidal maniac, or the owner who's having a bad day, or a cop, and you might have a very different result.
In neither of those cases would you blame the manufacturer of the whoopie cushion for selling them, I presume.

It's not the objects that should be blamed, in most cases, but the users.
Anything can be a griefing device if the owner so chooses. Someone can put on a spinning, flashing full-sized house at a club - which would probably be more likely to get them ejected than some of the joke devices.

i dont understamd WHY this stuff is allowed to be sold IF it cant be used. Because the seller can claim the item can be used for non griefing purposes to avoid being banned himself. (and in most cases he is correct). People need to use common sense when using so called "joke" items on others. Most people consider it griefing if they didn't give you permision or arn't close friends of you.

I don't understand WHY this stuff is purchased by people who FAIL to use COMMON SENSE in the application of such gag tools resulting in their getting BANNED. Go figure...It is so juvenile. Hint: If you are the only one laughing, then no one else thought it was funny. Maybe your Hubby can take home that as a "Lesson Learned".

Whoopie cushion under the butt of your homeroom teacher tends to result in detention.. err, ISS. While you might become the hero of your classmates, that detention is gonna follow you around for a while. Same for SL. No, the manufacturer is not at fault, just because someone lacks the common sense to use 'em responsibly.

Heeehehehehe I have that fart thing.....BUT.....I would never just use it randomly on a stranger.....in fact I only ever used it once on a friend just to show her.....we had a good giggle about it and that was that. I'm waiting for a griefer to find my island so I can whip out all my cool sh** LOL But.....I immediately thought of my bf when I read this cause when I showed him SL.....the first thing he said to me was "I'd be a griefer". Immediately there was a devilish sparkle in his eye......thankfully....he just isn't interested in SL at all. But, this is where the 'common sense' thing gets blurried. If you knew my bf IRL, he's got a very intense personality and he's very out going and funny......and he would do anything for anyone who needed his help. He exceedingly generous, and he's a big teddybear. However......he absolutely has ZERO understanding or concern for anything to do with SL. He simply would not, could not, take it seriously on any level. He's very much a here and now type.....very grounded in visceral 'real' life. So....he would come into SL and whip out a few gadgets and probably laugh himself to tears over tripping people up.....because he can't fathom how ANYone could take it seriously. I would be willing to bet.....there's griefer types out there.....who if we knew them IRL....we'd never suspect.....or they're very very likable people who just don't happen to see the SL experience the same. (and then of course, the rest are just morons lol)

Why do they sell houses? They can be made physical and dropped on people, which could get you banned. It could also piss off a witch if you happen to drop it on her sister.

From: Tegg Bode "My common sense is tingling...." "Common sense, any rarer and it'd be a superpower" Here's a good comparison to answer that..... The guy who lies about his taxes The lady who robs clothes from a store The people who park in "no parking" areas The people who park in "handicapped" areas and aren't handicapped The old man who walks to his mailbox naked to get his mail The guy who decides to go on a killing rampage The guy who robs a police car The guy that streaks across a football field during a game ummmmm, and many, many, many, many more instances of things like that....tada

sorry, noob question on this. I banned a guy from my sim the other night, who was using an animation on people called 'F--- his head.' The animation caused him to wrap his av's legs around someone's head and well, you know. My question is, in order for this type of thing to work, doesn't it have to be 'accepted'? by the receiver of these antics? Like, 'So and so wants to animate your avatar', Yes or No. Or no permission needs to be given?

Like, 'So and so wants to animate your avatar', Yes or No. Or no permission needs to be given? It would be possible to build such a thing as a 'follower poseball' - the griefer would sit on the poseball (which would then start his avatar looping the 'humping' animation') and the poseball would then position itself at the target avatar's location (plus 'up a bit' to maximize the lulz factor). So no permission granting from the target would be necessary. I don't have direct knowledge of the device described, but that's how I suppose it was done.

@Treasure
Along time ago I was camping at Gold Rush a few years ago and this guy say on my head and basically was doing the same thing to me. His intention was to force me out the camping chair. Apparently, he was not required permissions to do this. Luckily, someone gave me an orb to prevent this and I was able to stop this guy.

To be fair, however, often the marketing for these things sells them as super powers rather than gags. Learning that ultimately the only effect they have is to make your friends mad at you as a hard lesson.

From: Harmony Levee The guy who lies about his taxes hmmm - lies "about" his taxes or "on" his taxes? Of course every good American should lie a little ON their taxes and I think almost all of us lie ABOUT them.
