I love this thread. One of the best things about SL is how easy it is to be really nice to a perfect stranger, and it serves as a constant reminder to me of how even the smallest things can make another person's day. I've been lucky enough to be on the receiving end of such kindness more times than I can name. I'm glad Ava's name came up in this thread. She was always incredibly helpful on the forums, and spent time inworld helping me find some protected waterfront land early in my SL. A very special person indeed. Of course, our own Ray Figtree is another of those people. Beyond watching the land market, and offering sound advice, he has been a sympathetic ear and a side splitting comedian around here, who I am very glad to see posting again.

I agree that Ava was one of the nicest people that I ever met in SL. Oddly enough, we discovered that we are near neighbors (near being a subjective term on the rocky coast of N. California).
Raymond was always so kind to me. I still remember being a new renter in Liome. I asked him if my 300 prims included the house that was on the parcel. He answered by saying that I could use as many prims as I needed, but not to exceed several thousand. (In truth, I never even used up the 300.)
Also Rosie Castro was always ready to help out with anything at a moments notice. We had lots of fun goofing around too. If I could find another Liome, I would move there in a minute.
Chris Norse. I could never begin to list all of the acts of kindness he has shown me over the years. He is a true gentleman.
And I would not want to hurt his business like image, but in truth, Elanthius Flagstaff has shown me considerable kindness.
I could go on and on, but instead I have to go running.

As a newbie, I was trying to find ways to participate in the Show&Tell events at NCI. After seeing a bunch of people make their own personal space ships, I figured I'd try my own out. I remember that I had a full-perms copy of a ship that I could pull the scripts from and did my best to make one. (^_^) Well... In the end, it flew vertically, turned funny, and had no sense of real control. I really messed it up. (>_< One night, I was trying to sort it out when a little girl came around and asked me if she could help. She immediately offered me friendship and let me know she knew what she was doing. She asked me to give her object permissions so that she could move some things around. I did, and she went about almost completely rebuilding my ship without adding or removing any prims. She corrected the direction of the root prim so that the vehicle script would work, sorted through the scripts to be sure that everything was okay, and offered some add on items I could consider to make it nicer. (^_^) So, after about an hour and a half, I was flying around in my own ship, gave her a copy and we bumped around in them for a while. And, she followed up by giving me some other vehicles to play with. It was a blast and we quickly became friends. (^_^) For a while I'd still see her off and on and we'd argue over the benefits of dynamic lights versus texturing with fullbright and the new prim glow feature that just got implemented at the time. She'd show off her new creation and usually impress us all with her sense of detail. She never hesitated to straighten someone out over making an efficient build. We would play games with the physics engine, point out new bugs as updates came through. She even offered megaprim services when that hole was open in the server code and would rez the exact size someone would ask for upon request. (^_^) Her name was Aley Arai. I'll miss her. She was a great builder and wonderful friend.

From: Clarissa Lowell Has someone done a random act of kindness for you?
Has a stranger dazzled you with something unexpectedly sweet or kind?
Tell us all about it here! (Names optional) Back in 2005 when I was a noob I figured out how to get to contest - but I could not walk or fly well and had to arrive hours in advance in order to pull myself together. I saw a photo contest on Baron Grayson's private island - I arrived two hours early and sat on a rock on his beach. He let me stay and even acted as my photographer for the contest and I won! I my winning picture as my profile picture and have not changed it in 4 years. I pride myself as being one of the Baron's first official stalkers.

When I was a noob I was actually rather scared of other av's , running around trying to figure out everything by myself (I did this for weeks mind you) getting boxes stuck on my head at Alady ect.. unfortunately the first person who actually approached me was a rude guy making incredibly mean sexual approaches and a bloodlines vampire! gosh, lucky I was not put off by that but I was bedridden with a broken knee at the time so wasn't going anywhere else cept SL luckily as it turns out. Then I asked some noob question in the forums and was I'm'd inworld by a lovely person who took me to Vista and bought me an AO (I hadn't worked that out yet and was still duck walking). I was REALLY overwhelmed by her kindness and thought it was too much money to just spend on some random stranger but she wasn't finished. I ended up renting an island from her when I was ready to have my first home and she spent a lot of time helping me realise my dream of having a tree house! I had SO much trouble positioning it that she went and bought her own to help me with after I broke mine! lol. I will never forget her kindness though. Also some random guy I met at help island said he liked my look and then gave me 700l! I dont know if it was a hint or he was just being kind as he never spoke to me again! many months later I returned the money (thank goodness for calling cards) and I hope he realised my gratitude. Then of course the person who became my bestie! she knows who she is and I cannot imagine the amount of sighing frustration I must have caused her with all my noob antics..! I have grand ideas for projects that I would NEVER be able to complete without her technical braniac abilities.. she's a kind and patient teacher and I used to spend part of my every day with her and I miss her a lot. Now I try to help everyone I can to pay all the kindness forward and I really enjoy it. I like to give a few L's here and there to help new people out and LM's for shops and nice places to visit! also the stop all animations rose comes in handy a lot
