From: Drivin Sideways Which one of these organizations is gong to be willing to come in here and deal with forty-cent transactions? None, from what I can see. QFT Banks are hardly known for being free thinking and jumping on the latest fads or trends (or what they perceive to be). I would think any executive who would suggest LL as an option to his superiors would be laughed out of the office and packing up his desk by morning.

I agree with most here. I really can't see banks using SL (as it is now) for much more than attracting customers to their rl services.

From: Brenda Connolly It's better than Mr Dried Out Condom That's Been In There Since 1995 poor Brenda... got the tools and no wood to use it on? =X (sorry had to) SL wouldn't be the first to have RL banks in it, but if they were smart they'd steal an idea from Entropia and charge for a license to do banking within SL... although the biggest problem getting a bank in SL isn't the platform, it's the inherant instability of the currency... it's not fixed to a RL equivalent, so it's more dangerous than junk bonds over the long haul

From: Joy Iddinja Anybody here get the feeling that pretty soon an RL bank is gonna announce entry into SL in the media? Does anyone else suspect LL sold out the avatar banks in order to get Chase or Bank of America or Citicorp more invested in SL? I don't know what their real motivation was. But I don't think they banned banks because they're afraid that SL banks will effect the virtual economy. There just aren't enough stupid people in SL to do that. I also don't think that it's because they care about the stupid people being scammed. There are people being scammed constantly in SL. Does LL prevent scammers from selling freebies?. There's definitely something fishy going on around here!

True - but whilst I can't see any banks using SL per se either I can see them advertising the hell out of the place. Which, depressingly, does tie in with the unlikelihood of us ever having the facilitity to NOT render things we don't want to see IMO. Re post above from Susie: They had to ban gambling because it was unregulated monetary transfer with a currency which was meant to NOT be a currency. They have had to put VAT on for those of us subject to it. They have had to ban banks in SL because they were dealing with unregulated monetary transfer with a currency which was meant to NOT be a currency. Seeing a pattern? It's all happened since the crapola with the German TV station doing the piece about the kiddie porn and sexual ageplay, when the FBI got involved. Either the Linden is an ingame currency with no RL value, in which case you can do as you like with it as happened at the start when you could not BUY Lindens ... or else transactions HAVE to be regulated. LL is a business after all. Like it or not, the real world has a say in what they HAVE to do. This being said, how they do it is another matter and I am not commenting on the way in which it was carried out (mainly because I really can't be bothered with debating that ad nauseum).
