Are there landscaping companies out there?:o I am in dire need of some pretty landscaping. I managed to make a small pond yesterday that came out good, but that's as far as my patience will bring me. The area I want done is a corner lot 1/4 of a sim. Anyone have any recommendations for companies to contact?

There is a free tool called "Terraformer" that makes landscaping *alot* easier - even I can do it now ;-)

You can look for landscapers in Search, but I always recommend my husband, Gonkerplumb Flanagan. You can see his work at www.gardensbygonkers.com He's really good!

I actually already have everything I want to put out. I have a pond in mind complete with my duckies and turtle.heh Tons of flowers and trees. I also want a brick walkway going to each of the stores in the plaza. Basically what i need is someone to actually terraform and lay it all out in a nice way for me,lol. I will send you an IM later today!:)

Well thank you, that's so lovely to hear. He's reasonable for pricing, and he makes a lot of his own plants now too. Look us up inworld this evening - we're UK based - and we can chat about what you need.

I dig nice ponds, if the deal with Pixie doesn't work out. Go and see our falls and pond at Lebettu for an example.

I don't market myself for it but....but I love it and I'm pretty good at it (well, my friends all say I should do design and landscape consulting in-world but I just enjoy it)

Anyway....if you want some help....I know you have other offers....but if you catch me in-world I'd be happy to assist if you have't connected with anyone else for help. (no I don't charge, I just enjoy the process)

What would be a basic rate for a landscaper anyway? I mean what is the service worth?

Really it depends on so many things. Like, can you draw Linden water on your plot or do you need swim enabled prim water? Also, you have the plants already, so that's a saving, but the placement, and rotation take time. Also, would you need custom sun following scripted shadows? We can do all that! The hard landscaping can be time consuming. Gonks cannot give a price before a site visit, but Random, the Roman wedding themed sim came to L$80,000 which included plants, hard landscaping and terraforming. However, he's also working on a 2 sim estate with 7 waterfalls, and that's a lot more. Basically, realistic waterfalls, with seamless texturing and custom effects is expensive. But what you have then is a unique build with a very high degree of realism.
I hope this helps. We have a youth club thing to do in RL this evening, so we'll be around later if you want to chat.

I am at the moment looking for realistic and detailed trees. (non palm). I find some that the trunk looks superb - but the tops look like X marks the spot - ideas?

Love to find a realistic looking fir trees.

It's a pity you are not looking for palm trees - I just had my whole sim re-planted last night since my *ahem* accident. The guy who makes them "ee Oh" has done a wonderful job with his palm trees and they look really good in windlight. He also did a wonderful job of re-planting my sim, putting down around a hundred trees in under two hours.

I only use palms but I saw some nice trees at Arborial :)

@Pixi I will check out your work because I may need some professional help with a couple of waterfalls & I'm based in the uk as well

If you are still looking for a landscaper, my partner, Blythe Bracken, was very interested when I mentioned this thread to her, and is in the right sort of price range I think. Have a look at our home (LM in either of our picks) to see the kind of thing she can do.

Basic landscaping with the inbuilt Linden tools is a pain, but there is a free script you can get, that once inserted into a prim, makes life a little easier. I use that myself and insert it into a square prim the size of which I vary according to what I want to do.

But advanced skills, especially if you own an entire private Sim and can access higher land limits and the Linden ocean levels, is almost akin to what a first life graphic designer does. For that expect to pay first life costs

I find the tools really difficult but I was lucky that my map was a really good one to begin with so i have only really needed to tweak it here and there to get it right ( well nearly right - it's still a bit of a fiddle )

It's especially hard when you have mountains, high cliffs, drop offs and deep ocean water all in one sim.

My main problem is one part of the land is at a higher altitude than the other and I cant get an even surface to work with. I have screwed it up completly and I have zero patience, lol.

If people are serious about helping me, for really cheap money($5,000L):o Please contact me inworld. All I need is a pond/lake,some trees and flowers scattered about and some walkways. I have all the stuff already(well I would need to find a brick/wood walkway I think...). I just wish I had some patience and actual talent when it came to designing...ha. The land is in my sig,it's that corner of the sim I want done. It's just 1/4 of the sim there. Serious people only please, I really need this done before I make a big hole and jump in! Tired of looking at the bumpy messed up land now.:o Sorry, this is turning into a classified....

You've already had responses in this thread offering to do it for free. If you request "serious people" you're going to get "serious" price quotes, especially if you're in a hurry.

And if you have giant holes in the ground, I suggest Select Land followed by the Smooth option.

Yeah I have exactly that problem whatever flattening tools I use it always looks choppy and rough - I have a steep hill with a flat two meter wide path about half way wich is always rough whatever i try and do. I'm thinking of just slapping path textured prim down to get rid of the problem
