Reduce your draw distance too. In Preferences.

Skins are just the 'skin' on your avatar, the paint. Hair is something different.

Sounds like they gave you a lot of stuff.

Yes you can spam things to other people if you wear a prim that does that. I think there is one called Body Shop AO or something.

You can get a free male AO at some AO store but I don't remember its name offhand. Things from stores might be better for you. Then you do not have to worry about being passed a bad item.

People run into ban lines all the time and it keeps their motorcycle. That one isn't your computer's fault.

My oldest computer sometimes reboots itself and more so when the house is very warm inside during the summer. SL especially uses a lot of CPU and memory with all the fans going flat out to keep the system cool. Only since I got my new computer just over a week ago can SL be played really well with no lock ups or screaming fans!

Yeah, I had a comp do this too. I finally bought a new one, since I had to do major upgrades anyways.

If your laptop is not up to current SL specs as you say, you could try running the Nicholaz pre-Windlight clients. I can run the Old School (no windlight, no voice) and Bleeding Edge (no windlight) quite happily on my out of date laptop.

Downside is that some of the newer sculpties don't always render correctly, but it's the price I have to pay for using SL when I'm on the laptop.

Here's a link:
http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/2008/05/version-overview.html

To use these, you will need to download the Nicholaz files and the corresponding old SL client (also available there), install the SL client to a new folder, then unzip the Nicholaz files and drop them in the newly installed SL folder. Use Nicholaz.exe to run.

Also, do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and shut down any unnecessary processes (like that malware detector!) Teatime (a virus/spyware detector) alone hogs 82,000 K, and most of those processes under User Name ike ctfmon.exe, QuickDCF2.exe, ehtray.exe, ehmsas.exe can be shut down safely. Shut down anything like iTunesHelper, Core.exe, etc etc. I think the only things that you really HAVE to keep running under the User Name section are taskmgr.exe and explorer.exe, though I've heard of people shutting down explorer as well.
