I accept if we're face to face and if there was no "connection", after they leave I delete.
I get it a lot as a store owner, especially from the slew of new residents I get in there. _____________________

omg, Yrrek! Be my friend! Will ya? Will ya, huh? C'mon, you know you want to! C'mon, c'mon, c'mon!!!!!!!
(Yes, they do get a message. It's nice to give them a brief explanation why, like "We've just met...I like to know someone a bit before we Friend." You might also ask for a Calling Card instead, so they don't feel completely rejected. )_____________________

Don't get me wrong , I like making friends, but not with every person that says hello. What do you do? They will get a decline message if you decline. I use to tell them nicely that I dont accept friendship with someone unless I've gotten to know them a bit first. Most of the time they understood but some got hurt feelings. I guess I'm kind of a softy and don't want to burst any newbies bubble. I have since found just accepting all friendship and going and cleaning them out every couple of weeks is actually easier and less time consuming than having to explain to the person in chat. You never know who might actually become your friend. I don't think it's rude to decline but I found it's just a hassle. _____________________

Let me put on my Miss Manners hat, and quote one of my earlier posts...
Gentle Avatar, One should never press Friendship on an acquaintance too soon, or uninvited. After you have met someone, and you would like to continue the relationship, you may ASK them politely if you might add them to your Friends list. Or you may offer them your card by right clicking their avatar and selecting MORE/GIVE CARD from the pie menu. One should never feel slighted if a Friendship offer is declined. Friendship gives a person considerable knowledge of their Friends' online status. Many very sociable avatars are reluctant to give a casual acquaintance this much access. If you wish to decline an offer of Friendship but not give offense, you may decline, then offer your card as an alternative, should you and the other person wish to contact each other in the future. Friendship confers an obligation on both parties, both to stay in touch with an occasional IM, and also to not impose too greatly on the other person's time. There is a great deal to see and do in Second Life, and your Friends may not have time for you today, even if they still hold you in high regard. _____________________

C'mon, c'mon, c'mon!!!!!!! /patts Ann on the tummy and steps on her tail lol, I am too much of a softy and almost always accept or sometimes pretend to crash. Mostly, I just delete them a little later from the list. (See, crashes can be a good thing), hehe |

OK, I have noticed that when I help someone that is very new. I usually get the "be my friend" offer. It's mostly guys too so I'm not sure if its because I'm a girl or they just need someone to talk with once in a while. Girls usually just take the help and go on there way (most anyways).
In either case, I explain that I usually don't accept friendship offers on the first chance meeting we have. Were really not friends yet but if you need help you can always search for my name and I'll help. Most people say they understand and hope to talk with me more in the future. That seems to work well for me. JulieAnne |

I accept if we're face to face and if there was no "connection", after they leave I delete. I get it a lot as a store owner, especially from the slew of new residents I get in there. This is pretty much what happens to all shop owners I give myself at least 6 months.. and if I don't chat casually with the person again in that time or if that person becomes a pest, they go bye-bye from my list. And no, I don't accept all friend invites either. If it's out of the blue, it gets declined just as out of the blue.Once you are friends, if you chose to remove them later on, then they don't get any notification unless you grant them modification privileges. _____________________

People just click and add me and I'm such a pushover, that I always accept, then a day later delete em if I don't really have or want interaction with them. Amusingly, rarely do the people I like click add!

Declining a friendship offer is only as rude as making the unwanted offer in the first place.
![]() I usually just accept and wait two weeks, if I haven't talked to them for the whole two weeks (or if the conversation consisted of cyber requests, or other such contact) I delete them and move on. _____________________

I accept each and every friendship offer, then make a mental note of who the free-handed-frienders are. I then spend every in-world minute of every day IMing them and telling them what I'm doing, what I'm wearing, how I'm feeling, whether or not I'm bored, etc etc etc
Oddly, I never hear back from them after awhile *blows on her "boy is she annoying" gun and re-holsters* |
