When I logged on to SL this morning, I noticed my av had developed a nasty case of odema in the ankle area .... and nothing I've tried will fix it. I'm thinking it's because I shortened the legs a coupla days ago, and have only just noticed the problem. Because I'm using a system shape (Girl Next Door) I guess I could just switch to the unadjusted one from Library and apply all the numbers I settled on originally? I was wondering if anyone knows a quick way to apply those numbers without having to painstakingly go through and list them all beforehand .... .... or, better still, does anyone have a better solution? Thanks for any pointers here

Girl Next Door always has the problem you describe for me. Even stock un-modded from the library.

From: Dawnee Swansong I was wondering if anyone knows a quick way to apply those numbers without having to painstakingly go through and list them all beforehand .... .... or, better still, does anyone have a better solution? Thanks for any pointers here I know this will sound tedious, but it works better than jotting down numbers, at least for me, and I've done it so many times that I'm always surprised at how quickly I'm finished. Make a new shape and give it some kind of name. Wear the one you want to copy. Start with the head and memorize the first two slider numbers, which are the only ones you can see. Wear the new shape. You see the same slider positions. Fill in the numbers. Save. Wear the old shape and page down to the next two or three slider positions. Memorize those numbers, wear the new shape, put them in. Save. Go on like this through all the body settings. It doesn't matter if you copy the same numbers twice (which *is* a problem if you are jotting them on paper) because the position of the input windows is the same on both shapes. The only danger is that you copy bad numbers from the new shape to the old one. To avoid this, just get in a good rhythm of - get the numbers from the old shape - wear the new - set the numbers - save - wear the old - move the slider window down - (repeat until done) The point is, when you change shapes, the appearance dialog sticks in the same position. If you're two pages down in the Eyes section on one shape, that's where you are when you put on a new shape. .

I originally spent ~a year in SL in 2007 (different ID) with the GND shape, and didn't have that problem. If Dante is right (ty for your reply Dante ).... does anyone know a good shape I can buy that's very "normal"? I really, really don't wanna be a Frankenbarbie

It may take a while as you learn the sliders but you may be more satisfied on the inside with the final product.

When you have a set of tweaks you like, Save As, and give it a unique name. I date-stamp my shapes, so I know when I last tweaked. Like 090728LindalShape.

I also probably have some freebie shapes you can try.

.
So let me get this straight. If I put on a new shape, it will default to the numbers of my shape I was previously wearing? Will it? Does that mean you could reverse engineer a non-mod shape whose numbers you can't access?

No, she's describing how you can most easily copy the parameters from one shape to another. When you put on the shape while the edit appearance window is open, the window will not scroll around so you'll still be looking at the parameters you were looking at on the previous shape, which makes it easier to remember a couple of numbers, switch shapes, set them, scroll down, switch back, remember the next numbers, switch, and so on...

I see that, but then wouldn't that work? Not that I'd advocate reverse engineering.

I can't see any other use for it. Why would anyone need to know numbers of a no mod shape?

I was the 'girl next door' too, for a few minutes when I first came to SL - the one with long auburn hair, purple sweater and jeans. I modded my shape a bit to look more athletic but I don't think I've ever changed the feet or legs much, yet I don't have puffy ankles.

From: Seven Okelli No no no - you can't get the numbers off a no-mod shape. Okay then it's just my foggy head from (I think) coming down with cold or flu today. What was the purpose of putting shapes on and off to write numbers down with? I've written down shape numbers (that I made) and just wrote them all down. I'm not getting the picture. *sigh* Oh btw the cankles glitch has been going around lately. It may not be a particular shape at all. Maybe try one of those de-Ruthing things. (On copying only part of a mod. shape, why not write them on paper...seems easier.)

From: Dawnee Swansong That's weird ... I originally spent ~a year in SL in 2007 (different ID) with the GND shape, and didn't have that problem. The girl next door who was there in 2007 was fired, then Torley stuffed her into a crate and left her in an obscure corner of Stillman. Two others have since taken her place, but some newspaper clippings floating around Zindra don't presage good things…

From: Clarissa Lowell (On copying only part of a mod. shape, why not write them on paper...seems easier.) You might think so. Maybe I am using the wrong paper. Oh, god. I know it sounds crazy. I've written numbers on paper, but sometimes when you page down through the Appearance interface you see the same number twice. I found that I wrote more or less numbers than were needed for a category. I've also copied the numbers into the wrong fields. However, if I simply switch from one shape to the other, the same fields are displayed for both shapes. I can just copy the numbers into the same fields, save, switch back to the original, verify the numbers, move on to the next. You would think that all the switching back and forth takes longer, but it doesn't. At least for me. In a different account (older than Seven) I once took pieces of three freebie shapes and put them together. I kept modding it after, and finally wanted to put my own name as the creator of the shape. .

I'd be happy to toss a box of shapes your way too....I have tons I've made for photo projects and celebrity looks....just gathering dust. I can make em copy/mod and between me and Clarissa you should have plenty to experiment with. But, indeed the kankles issue has been around a while. One thing I noticed is wearing a 'pants' layer that is an undergarment....or shorts.......the avatar mesh will got borked on the lower leg as if the pants layer were long and transparent, making it appear is if you suddenly have nasty kankles. I've never had a shape do that on it's own.....but I've heard of a lot of folks seeing this glitch with their shapes. I've had weird mesh issues with male faces....for some oddball reason...ONLY the male shapes...and always the left jaw line.....it will suddenly look as if he's got a huge wad of tobacco in his gums. It's a real beyotch when trying to make a new shape.... Fortunately I don't use a male avatar and I do custom male shapes only occasionally.
