Perspective is a funny thing...IMO, there aren't enough truly pale-but-not-goth-and-not-too-pink-but-not-too-yellow skins on the grid.

I sympathize with you, Ann. For an alt, I bought a rather pricey custom light skin but never wore it because it came out so yellow! :(

I like the Redgrave and RaC = Lakroki now (I think) for lighter skins. But all my info might be outdated.

Since you're piling on the extra goodies to purdy yourself up, you'll need one of these

Perhaps you can even get one with bling, who knows.

:D

Oooh! good one! I knew about the bouncing boobs, but I'd never heard of bouncing butts! ^_^

If you need some help while out trying on differnt skins, just let me know.

I'm very helpful that way :D

"Try making the boobs and butt bigger .. we can ... oh, see the textures better. Yeah, we'll go with that. And we can't see if the WHOLE texture is good while you still have that bikini on ...."

Thanks, Imogen!

I have also gotten complaints on my facelights since Windlight, so sometimes I wear it, sometimes not....I just wasn't sure what was best....

Thankyou so much for your kind offer of a free facelight. I will take you up on that when I am next in-world. ^_^

Boots

if you are more concerned about how you look to yourself, and not so much how others see you (since you can not control their system, and heck some folks do not even turn on local lighting, I am one who doesn't)
then drop by my store and pick up the notecard for how to chance your environment settings

(no harm trying right?)

(and while you are there you can have a look at what I have to offer, something might strike your fancy, or just pick up some of the freebies)

If you also want tips on great ways to light up, i found this website that offers a setting to put in SL and then she has a really simple face light that just adds that extra little bit:)

the website is.

One girl's opinion: Getting tips from the Forums is fun, but finding a new gem of a creator by yourself is so much more fun.

Good point.

Of course prettiest is totally subjective.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I've been working on appearance lately... Little Immy is put to sleep for a while since I'm exploring a bit more of myself at the moment. I'm still using a lot of freebies and my shape is my own work, but, lookie see... =^-^=

The skin is from one of the Re PSD collection from here http://eloheliot.blogspot.com/2007/12/my-psds-let-me-show-u-them.html FREEBIE!!! \(^_^)/

The store that I got that vest from closed though... I got it during their 'out of business' sale. (T_T)

I wear hair from all over, but normally stick with styles that cost L$120 or less. 0 Style, ETD, and Cake are places to go for the spendie stuff. (^_^)

I started my AO with SassyGurl from Temp, and piled on to it with stuff I found in Japanese stores all over the place. (^_^)

And.... I'm starting to wonder if I've ever even paid for a pair of shoes... I have freebies from the new library avatars, Tesla, Ada, Axis Mundi, Prozak, and more... Something for everything really. (^_^)y

My Skins are all from SinSkins, Hair is Calla and ETD. My shape is pretty much a custom job, based on on of Colette's that I worked on , then she tweaked it some more. I recommend her shape tweaking services, as well as just her stock shapes. I don't wear facelights, since I don't use windlight it's not really an issue for me. My AO is a ZHAO II with mostly Outrider animations.

This is true. Yo-yo is always smooth, never corrugated.

Boots, all the suggestions are good. If you have to pick one set, I'd say follow Ann Launay's advice...her av is always beautiful!

As for becoming "the most beautiful av in SL"...well, you can't buy that in a store, any store. If you could we'd ALL shop there! There are many, many beautiful skins, shapes, eyes, hair, etc. to choose from. What pulls it all together is you...your own sense of personal style. The way you combine the items to create your look.

Couple of specific tips...

- avoid prim nails. They're gorgeous, but they won't stay on your fingertips when your AO or a poseball animates your hands out of the rest position.
- look for eyes with a large iris. The human iris dilates when we look at something we are interested in. People notice that unconsciously and react to it...we like people who are interested in us!
- Customize your AO. Poses and animations give your av more "presence" and contribute more to your look than most people realize.
- Try on tons of skin demos. Remember that your shape and your skin will work together. You may need to tweak your shape a bit to get the most out of a skin you love...or if you love your shape, you may have to search a while to find just the right skin for it.
- In addition to minimizing your facelight, limit it to one or at most two emitters. More than that and you are going to start killing nearby local lights for other people as you pass.
- some good stores that might not've been mentioned already: Sirena, for hair. Armidi, Mischief, Nonna Hedges, Beauty Avatar, Blaze. SEMotion for loaded AOs.

/me skips happily off to shop for skin dressed in the removable bikini and the bouncing butts, accompanied by the smooth, never corrugated Yo-yo in tow for advice. ^_^

Thanks for the additional advice. Lots of great comments, things that make sense but I've never thought about before, such as the eyes with big irises. ^_^

Here's the only real tip I can give, since most all is subjective anyway: Don't make your arms too short. If you stand straight in RL, note where your relaxed fingertips fall in relation to your thigh; for most people it's very nearly the middle of your femur (thighbone.) There are way too many t-rex avatars out there (really short arms, long long legs).

That shows up best when in the default seating pose. The animation was made with a proportionately correct avatar considered... I always have a laugh when someone is holding their hands out in front of them instead of nicely resting in their lap. The first thing that always comes to mind is, "I bet their arms are very tired." I only use face light during photos personally. Yet when my friend is using the shadow viewer
the lights really bother her.
Not sure if they really help you look better any other time or do they?

I've taken plenty of attractive photos without any additional lighting, and I've seen avatars destroyed by their own face-suns. At the same time, I use lighting for some pictures myself and I've seen noses and cheeks at certain times of the SL day that made me say, "if they only......" (^_^)y

To Face Light or Not to Face Light?
09-10-2008 13:05
What a conundrum! There are those who say you have to have a face light, those who say never use one, those why say use the light under some circumstances.....what's a girl to do?

Use ONE face light if necessary. Don't use 6. :)

(FWIW, I'd rather see the surrounding lights. SL lets you only see six local light sources. If you use a facelight, that counts as one for you and everyone else. If you're in a moodily lit place with torches, etc, you'll light up like a beacon, and will take away one light source from both you and others.)

/me sighs
So...I need to figure out if it's necessary to use a face light? ANy guideslines as to when it's usually necessary? I guess being beautiful has it's complications. ^_^

We've debated facelights in several threads. Use whatever makes you look good to YOU...but as Oryx says, keep the emitters to a minimum, to avoid messing with nearby local lights.

Open GL can only display six. If there are more in the scene, the ones farther away get turned off.
