They need to free the hamsters and invest in some wharf rats for running the servers ;)

*sigh* And I was about to log in to play around and explore. Drat it.. I guess CoH will do until it's fixed.

Yeah, I was going to carry on doing some shopping to decorate my condo/apartment place.... oh well, maybe I will get to RL bed a bit earlier tonight. Hope it's up on the weekend, as my avatar is in the mood to party!.

Technology is not inherently unstable. The instability is the result of poor design, implementation, and the management decision that puts the focus on features instead of bug fixes. The MASSIVE backlog of unfixed bugs in Jira is proof of this.

Do you work in the technology field Sharie? I know I don't, but I use it daily. Anything technologically that operates on a large scale basis (and I'd say this is - as there are world wide users) - that is constantly taking in new information - that I've ever worked on (system) ... has issues. We have the best of the best where I work (I'm on lunch now) ... and our system goes down.

When I think of all the new stuff that is created every day and rezzed in world - specially now with all the new creators bogging us down with buy this ... buy that ... I'm amazed that this thing works at all, ya know? ;-)

Shit happens. A few months ago our fiber optic cable was cut, no phones or internet. Today out PAX (Personal Phone Exchange) blew up, quite literally from what I am told, so no phones.

Bare in mind SL is experimental, there is not another user created environment out there that I know of with as many users. And no I am not talking about MMOs with pre-designed environments. The longer I am in SL the more I appreciate it's achievement and it's uniqueness.

Now some people may question why LL went with certain technologies/platform that have since fallen short of expectations. The truth is anyone with anything to sell or gain by having their product used will paint it in the best possible light. They will claim that their product will handle the demand better than the next guys, this is not always true.

Case in point, we recently Augest 2007 moved our store location to a new "Build to suit" building. We had certain requests that were not met entirely about the power system in the store front. We do refurbished computer sales and service, which mean we have two areas that would be running as many as 6 to 10 PCs and/or a number of laptops at the same time aside from our sales terminal and systems used for diagnostics and such. We requested that the store front and the adjoining tech area be on separate circuits, they said sure you will have plenty of power. First day in, we get hook everything up try to fire-up our color laser and poped the breaker apparently to both rooms, so not only was it not wired as we asked, but also no enough power as it was wired. They have since patched the problem but it was to late to fix it from the ground up.

You'll be unless you're a child avatar. If you are, you might lose your account and assets. ;-)

Or a day late since the rolling restarts were yesterday and that process quite often causes problems.

I wonder how many of us actually remember when the lindens used to send gridwide messages that they were shutting down a sim/grid and used those exact words. ;)

You'd think with an average user level of 40,000 to 50,000 (including many many addicts) the Lindens wouldn't be quite so off-hand about being down.
I have no patience...

Still bigger than the average business networks. Even with 4000 users they ought to have an IT department able to handle outages.
Just sayin

OT warning.

Alicia, we're all aware that there are a lot of bots out there. However, the last semi-reliable figure I saw was an estimate of about 20% of the online users, not 75%.

I don't think anyone really KNOWS what percentage of the concurrency is bots. I wish somebody would find out, and publish the data. And their counting methodology.

In the meantime, I for one get really annoyed when people toss about numbers that are (in all probability) a gross exaggeration.

End OT digression.

The problem seems to have been fixed. Well, "RESOLVED", anyway.
