There's an open jira ticket for the ability to have more than 25 groups. Just gentle encouragement to vote for it if it's something you'd like to see.

I can understand that maybe for some a need for more 25 groups is desired. For me personally not. The chat choas ("<name> has left the session" included) is for me already way to big with less as 25 ACTIVE groups.

OMG can you imagen the Load if they raise to to day 30 to 50? Can always use a few more junk groups, but frankly I rather see better improments then adding group to the Game..

Thanks for the link. Voted, absolutely agree with the need for the ability to be in more than 25 groups

Hmm… wasn’t the number of groups one can be member of not recently increased to 25?

I think if they raise it to 50 it will not be enough. And with 100 there will be people asking for more too…

Just a friendly meant hint: First look of which groups you really need or want to be part of. Which that in mind I reduced my number of groups to 11 (removed 9 or 10).

its important for merchants in SL to be in groups belonging to the location they
have vendors at, for a few reasons two being to update their vendors when the land is set
on no build / auto return is on so they have to set objects to group and also to keep updated
on information from who they rent the vendor spots from like rent increases special, Sim info etc.

for people that have vendors in many differnt sims like myself and most of them needing
you to be in a group 25 isnt nearly enough, im constantly dropping groups to join new ones
so i voted for this :D

Morwen, I don't belong to a single group for fun or shared interests. I would love to join groups about lots of varied interests (like First Look viewers), but I can't.

I use groups to run my rental business. Groups are how we regulate access to land. Each of my renters has a separate group. That way, they can terraform their land, change media settings, eject griefers, and some even subdivide the land and re-rent it with their buildings or businesses for their tenants.

I could not put each renter in the same group because that would either give not enough access to the land and objects, or they could access other renters' lands and objects.

If we're worried about server load, then charge for extra groups. Players who join groups for fun or shared interests will prioritize their 25 groups to avoid additional charges while those who need them to run businesses will pay. Barring that, I think there are smarter people than me offering alternative suggestions for this issue to the Lindens (see: SuzanneC Baskerville's comments to the ticket).

May I point to my first comment in this thread where I clearly say: "I can understand that maybe for some a need for more 25 groups is desired. For me personally not."

Still I think no matter how high they move the number of allowed groups, there will always people for who it is not enough.

And I do think, that for a lot of people it may usefull to reconsider to which group they are members and if there is really a need or wish for.

I'm sure I remember a thread like this before.. there were some good ideas, like either charging for joining groups over and above the 25 limit, or allowing premium members to have 50 groups instead of the regular 25 (to make the premium thing have more value -- something the Lindens said they were looking for).

Yes, this would be a good way to make a premium account more valuable. I don't even need all my 25 right now, since I have to drop a few to keep spam down. I had stopped going to the events anyways, so I didn't need to know what they were doing all the time. Add to that the fact that they haven't fixed the stupid group IMs popping back up after I close them bug.. and it's just easier all around.

The answer is alts!

Holding a seperate group for every single tenant is a new idea to me, but it's not going to scale. Making alts to be land managers might be ok though. One per sim or something :D

who cares if its a pay service or not it is something that alot of people need
i have my land grp plus the main island grp
numerous vendor groups i have to belong to in order to rez vendors, change vendors and all that
family groups
mentor groups
some informative groups
i am constantly having to juggle groups i go thru constantly trying to get rid of those i absolutely do not need but i can not get rid of any more

for those that do not like group im spam why be in the group to begin with?

or maybe start a jira to have an option to mute all group im's

Being one of Skye's tennants and knowing how much she uses the group feature for business, I would like it just for personal use. I have vendors all over, I work in several different places that you have to be a part of those groups and sometimes there is more than one group for each club, just depends on how the owners run it.

I also don't want to give up my update groups for all the great clothes and items that I buy, I want to know when new things come out even if it means getting inundated with group chat from time to time, if you sit around and read it, you might just get a good laugh.

I am now getting to a point where I'm having to juggle groups to find a new spot when I HAVE to join one and I am not liking it one bit. I have voted on this issue and will continue to watch it till something is done. Hopefully it will be done soon !!!

The main problem is added load :(.

But then again, LL could add (manual or automatic) a flag to indicate whether a group is simply a social thing or actually does dictate permissions. If it's merely a group of people it doesn't need to be looked at in a lot of cases.

The reduced load from that could be enough to offer a - probably small - increase to everyone's group count, or a substantial one to premiums :p.

Another optimization (albeit at the cost of a "feature";) could be to only let the "Show in list" dictate whether a group shows in someone's list or not. Seeing a hidden group listed when you're a member as well probably isn't "cheap" either.

The 25 group limit is ridiculously small. Maybe they need to create different types of groups, Security groups where there's no chat and then social groups where there is chat and messaging.

Those who find 25 groups plenty, that's fine, I don't see why you're opposed to others having more groups.

yep and a lot were not around during other updates and changes as well

doesn't change the fact that they did raise it once, so that being said, never know, they might do it again

(just a glimmer of hope)

Well August 2006 was before the floodgates opened wasn't it? The groups haven't been increased to cope with demand.

is the demand high enough though?
the ppl on these forums only represent a small very small percentage of the members of SL

I am sure the folks at ll can do a compliation of the data of who has how many groups and deduce from that if they feel a need for higher group allowance

(or not, I am merely stating what I think, and what I know)

I think they can do that

I know they have raised it before

*shrug*

I personally have enough group space

Ah D Day. Still the amount of user groups available hasn't scaled well with the amount of extra users and therefore extra interests available.

I don't think the issue is messaging in groups anyway, as people can conference call to their friends list.
