Might be interesting to take a team, start at one corner of the grid and do random acts of anonymous kindness...

...that would teach 'em!

grins

might work people up and cause the practise to spread...

I like the idea of random acts of anonymous kindness, but I have no idea how or what to do. Any ideas?

I think that going out to INTENTIONALLY find things to AR could be considered harassment.

That would make an interesting AR in itself, though.

"Dear LL, So-and-so is harassing me by INTENTIONALLY reporting all of my TOS violations! You've got to do something!"

Oh, ya gotta be creative. It's sort of like griefing, actually, just a little different.

Not that I, ah, would know. But Purely Hypothetically!

Money's generally not a good way. Though I have seen people open fire on a crowd with a machine gun that gives $L 1 to everyone it hits... cha-ching-ching-ching-ching-ching! Hilarious!

Flashmobs are great; you can drive people's traffic through the roof.

Ever wonder what to do with that 8 billion tons of inventory you've got? Can't be stupid about it though; a sexy dress won't do anything for a macho guy.

The most effective thing? Hang out and listen to what people have to say. About their builds, their life, their dreams... whatever's bugging them. Make sure you go as a noob, or almost. But that's blackbelt level kindness stuff. Don't start there until you get good.

/me nods

If there is one thing I've learned in life, especially this Second Life, it's that people just want to be heard. They want to share that which makes them humans. The best thing is to listen.

I decided I like her- let's nominate her for head of laziness committee- well, if we get a round to it..

And those "round to it's" are very difficult to find.

I like this idea much better than the one involving looking for things to AR.

Doesn't that make it all the more random?

:-)

Good point- and I just realized- it would blow that whole anonymous thing...

Yes this is what SL needs ..

More innocent people losing access to their accounts because of overzealous AR's

This is a bit like going out and putting those fake "parking notices" that look like tickets on people's cars. It's annoying and nobody will like you :)

But seriously, if you see abuse, report it, but don't go around looking for stuff to report. You really must have better things to do with your time. Plus, my guess is that you'll get labelled as a serial reporter and all your reports will just get directed to the wastebin.

I like Desmond's idea much better

I don't think you would be doing anything wrong, but I suspect it wouldn't do much good either. I imagine that most obvious violations of the TOS your group would find would have already been AR'd by folks who live in the neighborhood. It seems that most ARs do not generate action.

Leave Well Enough Alone and Go on a Beautification Hunt
08-26-2008 17:43
I'm in the "leave well enough alone" camp. Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm one of the first to try and help out, make things pretty etc., but really...

Anything that is ARable should be handled by those who live in the vicinity of the ARable in question. However, some people genuinely don't care, don't know they can AR or are long gone from SL but still paying tier through Daddy's credit card. Often times when these people are "enlightened" as to what they can do to potentially make their area nicer, they bite back harder than the source of the ARable.

So really, leave well enough alone and see what you can do to improve things. For instance, find quazi abandoned land that has no autoreturn and junk built up on it. Are there prims free? If there are, spring into guerrilla beautification action and get creative in hiding all the junk. Use every prim available and plant trees and nice structures -- use things you don't want back, however -- if LL reclaims the abandoned land, you don't always get your stuff back.

So instead of going on an AR hunt, go on a beautification hunt!
