man i wasted a shit load of L$ on it and the damn thing dosnt even bloody work, first it took 17 tries of setting out all the rental boxes, then being forced to turn of "prim count for tennant" because it was just to buggy
The "position after rent" option is useless and it moves anyway (even if u put 0,0,0) or whatever u put it moves 2 the same place.
And when i FINALLY managed to get it kinda of working, i go back to the server to find it dosnt report all of the rental boxes back 2 the server. and the tennant i do have dosnt show up, i have updated, reset, sim restart and even deleted and replaced the whole thing twice, and still it shows i only have 5 rental boxes (i have 40) and 0 tennants (i have 1 at present, but will have 2 more soon)
are there any rental systems out there that arn't total shite?

Have you contacted the creator and asked for support? I bet 95% of the customer service requests he gets is for things he can easily solve quickly.

I use Hippo rental boxes and the server.. have no problems here. About the prim counter - it does mention in the included help file that SL has a few bugs concerning this and that it might not work properly... but that's the only problems i've ever encountered. It's a quality products and I use it for rentals, shops etc - never had any issues at all with the rental boxes or the server.
My only suggestion for you is to read the help notecards gain, make sure you're doing everything right. If things are still messing up, as suggested before.. IM the creator for support.

are there any rental systems out there that arn't total shite? Sounds like someone needs reading skills. HippoRent is extremely powerful and the notecards are very straightforward. And there is a group out there that would help you - but you haven't even tried that route, have you? And Andy's customer service is excellent. It is far, far from shit. But I can tell you what is, by reading this post....

Not sure I would rent from someone who chooses to openly bash a product that many people swear by. It does not instill a lot of confidence in your judgement or abilities or business ethics. I would have taken my frustrations to the Hippotech creator, rather than to the Resident Anwers forum.

I've never had any problems with the Hippo system. It does, however, require a lot of attention to detail when setting up. That said, SL has been a nightmare today with scripts. I have a single camper outside my store and noticed that nobody had come and use it, so I tried to increase the pay out and the script is not working now. It was working perfectly yesterday, so I think SL is acting up, again.

I can only backup what others have said... I've been using Hipporent boxes for a while and have never had a problem with it. It really does take a lot of the hassle out of renting properties out.
My suggestion would be to start again, read the (very comprehensive) notecard and you will see just how fantastic the product is.
If you still have an issue, ask the creators to show you how to use them - I'm sure they are proffessional enough to still help you even though you have publicly bashed them (undeservidly) here....

Rarely have I seen such a bad post in these forums. I've used all versions of Hippo rent for over 12 months and given the vagrancies of SL it has proved to be an excellent product with excellent support. I suggest that to RTFM would be the solution to your problems

Maybe when something isn't working you should step back and ask yourself A. Is it just SL being crappy? or B. Am I an idiot? Generally it's one of the two. I use most of Hippo's products, and they are wonderful, so you are wrong.

I LOVE the latest web enabled Hippo rental boxes. I've used 3 or 4 rental systems in the past, and hippo version 4 has been my favorite by far. I'm slowly switching all my rentals to it between tenants from the version 3 to 4.1. I just like the ability to look at all my rentals on 1 web page, and all of the features it offers. I use there vending system as well and love that too. Honestly I think if after the first day of getting used to configuring it etc, You'll absolutely love it. Another great feature, something happens and box gets returned to you, pull the box out and it still holds the tenant name, time left and so on. I mention this feature specifically because it's saved my ass a few times.

From: Chaos Bikcin The "position after rent" option is useless and it moves anyway (even if u put 0,0,0) or whatever u put it moves 2 the same place. I've noticed that it seems you cannot really change the position of the rental box once it's rented. Move it 2 meters to the left, for instance, then reset it and it will revert back to its original position. Only when the box is free, you can change its position and it will stay there after a reset. This could be general SL bugginess or maybe just a quirck in the Hippo system. Either way, once you know this, it's actually really easy to work around (i.e. make sure you know where you want your boxes before you put them available for rent and when you do want to move them after a while, only do so when they're not rented). From: someone And when i FINALLY managed to get it kinda of working, i go back to the server to find it dosnt report all of the rental boxes back 2 the server. Always make sure passwords and server ID match everywhere on your land, if you are still using the 'regular' server. If you are using the web-enabled boxes and server, there really is no way one of the boxes does and another does not report back to the server... unless one of them isn't properly configured. In short, ask yourself these questions. 1. Are all my boxes configured in the same way? --> same password, same server ID, are all of them web-enabled or not? 2. Am I using the proper server to match the boxes? --> use the regular server with non-web boxes and web-server or regular server with web-enabled boxes (keep password and ID in the Config notecard if for some reason you have uploaded the info but still want to use the regular server) 3. Did I reset everything after I wrapped up configuring my stuff? --> reset all rental boxes, by hand if you need to, reset the servers, refresh online list of boxes I've been using the HippoSystem for half a year now, switched to fully web-enabled last month and I have never, never ever had any problems with it.

I concur with others experiences; Hippo makes great stuff and HippoRent is an excellent product that has had new and even better features added (for free) since I bought it.
There are often questions by IM on the Hippo Technologies User Group (in-world), and there is usually someone online who can help you. Plus I've found Andy helpful if you catch him, but he's in the UK so may be on at different times to you.
The Tenant prim counting is, as mentioned, not always accurate because of SL vagaries. I found a better way to do it is to get the box to count *all* the prims on the land (that way you get the Tenant's friends prims as well as the Tenant's prims), and use the 'subtract prims' option as well, to take away any prims *you* have on the land which shouldn't be counted.
HTH.

Then say SET RENTED POS in chat and it will always move the box to that position when it's rented. As for the updates to the server, it can take a couple of hours (sometimes longer if the server is on a laggy sim) since thats how often the server & boxes poll each other. You can try to force a box to update on the server by issuing the PING SERVER voice command to the rental box. Gomez

I have to wonder if the OP will be releasing his version of a rental system in the coming days. Right before he started promoting his Dark RP area, he started several threads attacking Midian City.
Yeah, I am a cynical bastard.

Just out of interest, has anybody tried both Hippo and Apez rental units since the Hippo ones were web-enabled? Any comments either way?
I went with Apez when I started doing rentals, because I needed the web aspect of them, and Hippos web access was "coming soon".

I used the Hippo rent boxes for some time but I noticed lag when I placed lots of them. So I removed the Hippo Boxes and replaced them with rental boxes designed by myself with even more features. That was my only problem with the hippo boxes besize the fact that their prim count feature some times fails.
