I have always collected the works of artists who reside in sl. But recently I am seeing a renaissance of art here. Wonderful works are being produced. And you ar esupporting a real artist when you buy their work even in sl. I really must urge all of you to check out the galleries that we have in our sl world. Try the Cetus sim for a start. And since threads should always have a question to answer - well, do you collect SL artwork? If so, why? Do you follow certain trends you see in teh real artworld or do you concentrate on sl styles and genres?

I do collect but don't follow trends. In fact, I don't know how you can have a trend in art. People do what inspires them from their soul. If it's a trend, to me it's commercialism. Many people here on the Forum, are aware my BF Ghosty Kips (RL and SL) is a digital artist, and he recently opened his first private gallery (although technically it has not yet had its official opening although it's in our picks - notice soon to go out; that's my shameless plug lol). It's quite frustrating for him and those other people who are talented, to make a name for themselves in SL, unless you're someone who is very outgoing, good at networking or lucky enough to find an agent to help you out. He has his work at another public gallery, but they of course get a percentage of his sales. Sorry for digressing a bit. Several of our Forum members are artists aside from Ghosty; Mari and Lexxi jump immediately to mind. And of course, we don't have to limit "art" just being photographs and paintings. I consider many "objects" here to be art, including some clothing I've purchased from people such as Four Yip. I'm all for supporting the arts, here and in RL - always have been. If something draws my eye, pulls me towards it and I can afford it, absolutely I'm going to purchase it. And if it's odd and unusual? All the better.

Jig, I hope you will make your way to Terminus Gardens, my land in Mist Presto where Talon Faire is located. Next to me is an art gallery displaying the works of a very interesting artist whose work is quite popular in RL- I won't divulge his RL name although he does put his books and such visibly out t his shows, but that is his decision. In any case, it is very avant garde I suppose, though not as in the school of art normally thought of as that- but very and timely.
I invite you all to drop in and see his work - it has great impact. I will invite him to this thread to talk about it since I mentioned him.
Also in Terminus are some wondrous creations by FD Sparks and Cel Edman and others in the Creative Arts Group - the gardens are a gallery themselves. And please- please do not take this as a plug for m space OK- I truly mean it for the folks that have so graciously allowed me to share my space with them and so enjoy their hard work visually.

Amara! I was there today, (at your store and went next door to the gallery) and the work looks SO familar to me. It was driving me insane. If you don't mind, would you drop me a note to let me know who this is?

I like collecting art in SL. So far, my favorite SL visual artist is Static Schultz, who sells both original digital works and digital reproductions of his RL collages, paintings, etc. His work is really worth a look... Elora, have not yet visited Ghosty's gallery, but it is on my list of places to go, and now I'll add Amara's neighbor.

Bravo on this thread~! As a photographer in SL I have spent a lot of time browsing galleries and meeting other artists and I'm always delighted and amazed with the work I see. SL in it's very nature is a work of art. I think the art is somewhat under appreciated over all. I've had so many people scoff at the idea of 'photography' in SL.....but the truth is out there....there's some amazing beautiful work being produced that is unique to SL and deserves proper recognition. Of course....I don't sell my work and I barely pay attention to my own gallery LOL But I'm too busy exploring and taking new pics and coming up with new themes and messing with photoshop (actually...in truth...I'm more interested in the original capture then I am in altering it in photoshop.....windlight is all I need, hehe) Anywho.....to answer your question...I don't collect art per say....unless you count all the creations I've bought from others to make my home and gallery. It's all art to me. I am in awe of what people do in here....from wall art...to detailed jewelery....love it~!!!

I do artwork but I am often broke and I don't see there is much demand for it so I don't like exhibit much of it except here and sometimes give few art pieces to friends. When I stumble upon artwork I like I get it if I have money for it. Personally I don't have collect others artwork, I prefer making my own. From personal experience in SL Artwork is around but there is not a whole lot of demand for it. I thought about doing Artwork on clothes so it could be wearable but I gotten few request for it. Although my friend Auroraskye has had some success selling fractal art dresses. Amara remind me sometime if you got time where to put my vendors in creative arts land and set some more stuff up. I have numerous paintings too I keep meaning to put out. I just keep getting distracted and I haven't been feeling very well.

I dont want this thread to disappear overnight to page two so I will add that all who read this should also check out Cetus and the galleries here. You are always invited to Jigsaw1 (one of my house/gallery builds) to see some early sl art I have collected. Please enjoy!

I had a gallery of my RL photography for while. I really loved having it. But no one ever came and well it was using like 500 prims so i got rid of it. I am semi sucessful with my photography in RL having sold a few pieces hre and there and had some featured.
I truely love my photography and had hoped to share it in SL, but my little gallery wasnt the place and i cannot afford to pay for a space in another gallery to show it

Good ideas in this thread for my Sunday afternoon art stroll and exploration The OP asked if collectors follow a theme. Well, at first I wanted to focus on artworks that evoked the SL experience. But that was very limiting. So, if my budget allows, I buy a piece that is striking to me. I see from some of the posts that it is difficult to get exposure. I look at the notices in the Arts/Culture section in the Events tab. Too bad there aren't other ways for people like me to know about the local artists. Can you join the periodic art exhibits? For example. a few months back, there was an exhibit on Nantucket that had a very nice collection from a variety of artists.

My work is not gallery chic. It's cartoon and comic art. I can make gallery chic, and I have a ton of drawing room sketches I made at Society of Illustrators years ago, but eh. I need more silly in my life. Where I used to be prior to second life, I was put down for hand drawing my work and not clicking and dragging in Poser. They laughed at me when I pointed out that they often put their name to clip art. Someone who put their name to a Kinkade painting in another community used their connections with authoritative figures to find out who reported the fraud and harassed me. I guess it was his way of saying he was sorry. ANYWAY if you like original art and want to smile, come on by my Cartoon World Gallery. Just use the smiling sheep teleport pad on plaza level. Which reminds me that I must upload my Angry Cow today. Oh btw I have artwork on clothes. Visit the Dog n Hog Snackbar (I built it myself in all its tropical deco glory) where you will find silly posters of food mascots just dying for you to eat them. Each poster comes with a T shirt of the character (some T shirts are on display). It's part of Holodoc's Pool n Surf Shop below. If you're lazy and have an Alteran Stargate nearby, use the commands /d holodoc for the gallery and /d surfdoc for the snackbar.

The sim "The Future" also has some amazing examples of art using the SL medium.

Funny...I really have no idea who sees my flickr work. I just post because it's something to do with it. LOL I had some of my RL stuff on display in my gallery for a while.....but like someone stated here....it wasn't really getting much attention so I nixed it. And I do what I do for me.... I really enjoy it and SL is like one big canvas to play in. Can't beat that

An excellent way to find out what is happening in the art scene in sl is to apply to join the Art and Artists Network. I have been a member since I have been here and it has really helped me to collect. I must admit I do buy large amounts of art and I think I shall be making it more "visible" to people in sl in terms of creating a free-entry gallery. It will take people's minds of the economic slump!

I have a close friend that is a BIG Godard fan. (sample pic below) While visiting his gallery in Las vagas, I found my new favorite artist who goes by the name Tomado. I never can find him on google tho Any way, he does great cats but in a sytle that I would call a mix of van Gough and Jackson Pollack. If I can find a sample of his work I will add it in later --- yeah, you see that posted a lot and no one ever follows through. Michael Godard working on "Bed of Roses"

You could use one of those multi-vendors which are about a dozen prims instead of the full 500.

The thing is i never wanted to sell my photographs... i just wanted a place for peopelto enjoy them. Likei said i make a bit ofmoney in RL selling my photographyso manyof my favourite pieces I cant sell but I do still have rights to display. Beyond that, selling photographs which have often taken me hours to get right for $4 doent really appeal to me. I dont need the lindens in world ane we ontahve the land to display them. I guess i ill just continue pulling them out every so often when i get the chance to talk about it with someoen

From: Yosef Okelly Point taken. /me laughs. /me giggles.... my beautiful loving partner often reminds me of the dollar value of lindens. I often find ti good to equate to if i really wanna do soemthing for that kind of money. And for me my art is my passion and selling it is a hard enough thing for me to do. But for $4 US... well i would rather just give them to people

I invited my friend and neighbor over to this thread to introduce himself but I guess he hasn't made it over- he is actually prepping for a big show last I heard. I will ask again- and Elora, I am sure he won't mind- I will get that for you.

The Batty Beach Sim has a fine collection of art of all types...various artists, sculpture, light sculptures, pictures...its quite awesome (our store hides humbly in the corner amongst it all, not being very artistic at ALL lol) They were written about recently in one of the SL newspapers... worth a good long look

I rather like artwork outfits, and the first outfits I made were based on my own art. But I am not good with computer software and the like, and so it didn't look good. Since it was made in world. If I could make clothes, I'd try to do something in that direction. Since I can't, I just wear someone else's work. Both of the above are by Lady Thera, and the second one is based on Van Gogh's Blossom.
