I don't ask for much. I don't need a mansion. I am looking for a place to call CTRL-SHIFT-H where I can change outfits and unpack boxes. I'm uncomfortable doing this at a mainland telehub with the crowds, noobs shooting off guns, etc. Optimally, it would be FREE.

I'd appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thanks,

Veronica

I wish you luck. A free parcel of land? Do people actually give out land? I remember my first "free" land I could use--I first started by doing freelance design and modeling jobs for office space...perhaps you should try a collaboration like this.

I don't think you'll get it for nothing. Unless you know the citizen well enough.

some groups offer the ability to set home on group owned land. It wasn't working at christmas but it may be fixed so you can try that.

I know it sounds a bit odd but if you are uncomfortable changing clothing in public you can change clothing underwater. There are sims out there where the timer for returning your item to your inventory is long enough for you to set down a package to open and copy the contents to your inventory. I'd be happy to let you know of one which also happens to have plenty of deep water if you send me an IM ingame.

Maybe you should learn to change clothes without getting naked. All you have to do is wear one item over another and it will replace it. See the "how do you get dressed" thread on page 2 or 3 of this forum.

And in the meanwhile, get an SL job, even if it is camping, to pay rent to people who don't get something for nothing.

The little huts on Hawaii island have been free since 2005 (still are im pretty sure)

they have tintable windows, locking door, you can place down some items.

Everything gets returned weekly I believe so its a sort of squater's rights thing, you can just move back in after the Broomsweep.

i do understand your feelings. when i was new and before i rented.. i "comandeered" a rooftop in bora-bora. it was high enough that no one on the ground could see me if i was in the center of the roof. i used to rezz things and change there. of course, auto return was turned off on that particular plot of land.

not sure you can easily find places like that now.

however... you can always go to a sandbox... rezz a board... send it into the sky... fly up to the board... change there. if you're overly shy .. you could "build" an enclosure instead of just a floor-board.

and as arua said.. there are cheap rentals out there. not designed furnish extensively, but a place to call "home".

They are still free but generally always occupied. Isolation is generally the best way to ensure privacy in these situations though since anyone can rotate views to see behind walls.

The way it's done is to rez a cube, sit on it, then change Z to something like 350m or something. Stretch it all out then get up once it's big enough that you won't fall.

I've got a workspace buster I can send you. You just rezz ther box and click on it and it takes you 300m up in the air. Then you delete it when you're finished.
Or you can just open the map and look for deserted spots.

If you haven't found anything by the time I get home from work (5pm est) I have a very very rarely used skybox above my under construction shops. You are free to use it as a home point if you choose, as long as you dont abuse it. Just send me a message inworld

i really don't get this I need a place to change??? click wear and its on no naked...you dont have to undress, at all.

unpacking I understand, I have a couple 16m plots I bought for 200L to keep the add farms out. if you want a spot that small I will set it to 10 minute auto return IM me if you like, only allows 3 prims...

check all your groups and see if there is land many do allow set to home and rez for group members.

As others have said, you have lots of options.

1. Rent a changing room. $L 2 for fifteen minutes.
2. Find a bush. I found that the land around Calla's hair emporium offers several semiprivate areas. You can rez items there, and if you goof, the autoreturn will give it back to you in a couple of minutes. There are many, many deserted or semideserted areas around SL. Look on the map for an area with no green dots...
3. Just change in public. It's just a digital cartoon, after all. I've had only one problem with this, when I got goosed by a passing griefer while standing on a pose stand and concentrating on sliders.
4. Use a free condo. There are several out there. I can't recommend this option, because the one I tried had no locking doors. People were always barging in, some of them very rude.
5. Make some Friends and ask if you can change at their place.

I've only encountered one store that actually has changing booths...INSOLENCE. They're upstairs.

Catch me online sometime - don't drop a random offline IM because mine cap and I'd never see it, so just poke occasionally and you'll eventually catch me.

There's a few places in Caledon where I let people set home points - I've got a ship in Port Caledon for instance. It's not used much. Don't leave anything out, but, sure, unpack boxes and stuff.

You'll need to be invited/exited from our Commonwealth land group (if I leave you in there you'd be left with phenomenal powerz) grins

Designs by Cleopatra, Black Moon, Gala Skins, and Dazzle (Last Call) come to mind as having changing booths, last time I was at their places. Not that I shop much :)

Before I had my own place, I found a few areas on the map that were consistently deserted and allowed build. I would TP to one of them before logging out and login "at previous location", so they were like home. After I got a place, I sent a tip to their owners :)

The best changing place is in a pure ocean mainland region. SL is always loading textures from everything within your max viewing distance. Even when you're 600 meters up it still loads those textures or it's coughing on someone's scripts, or prims, or whatever. A pure ocean sim has just a sand texture, a water texture, a cloud texture, and that's it. Packet loss and bandwidth meters are always nil because there's nothing to load except you. Of course you can't unpack an boxes there. I would use a public sandbox for that.

You can also search for Coutyard Plaza as a place to set home and change. You'll need to join the group Courtyard Plaza Retailers.

Call me naive, but this is the second post of this ilk I have seen, and I still don't get it. SL is is a virtual reality - all you're manipulating is a bunch of pixels, so who cares whether you're naked? Come to think of it, who cares RL if you're naked - last time I looked, being in posssession of a body was the only way to get around the world, and we all have one. True, many of them look a lot worse than anything SL could offer, but that's life. As for opening boxes etc, if you don't want to bother with rezzing a platform, search the sandboxes for those with low traffic - you'll often find one with few if any other residents. Voila - your modesty issues solved at the same time!

I am currently working on building a sim that might just fit your needs
send me an im in world and when we are both on I will invite you over for a look see, if nothing else it can be your home away from home for a little while at least

I am off to watch some TV, it was feeling neglected

cheers

People can do as they wish and some wish to change clothing in private. I don't think it's desirable for everyone to conform to one personality type.

There's a changing room at my mall, Pixie's Plaza, which is free for anyone to use. You can unpack there too, just please remember to take your boxes away afterwards. Im me in world if you can't find it, but it's in Neuntoter nest door to Jolie Femme. btw, Mcgeeb Gupta has the most gorgeous hair there!!

I can sympathize... I never liked changing in public either.. pixels or not, these avs are a representation of ourselves. Some people are more modest than others and speaking for myself, as a woman, I only want to look my best in public. So if you are trying outfit combinations, you want to experiment and see what looks good with what. And you never know what various layers are going to do, never mind if its a laggy day and there's a slow rez. And what if you want to check a demo skin? I'm sure as hell gonna get naked and check everything before I spend in excess if 1000L for it.

Myself, before I rented land and got my own home, I used to find secluded areas down below in Cyberpunk City. There was one room down there that only had one way in and I was never bothered until the end when one of the sim managers kept popping in on me and a friend when we were just sitting chatting. It was right after that that he went out and rented our first lot.
