There are items where tinting works and some where it doesn't. Shadows and highlights that work on light colors can get blown out if tinted dark. If you want a deep red item with realistic shading, you can't start with a white version of it. Plus, the alpha halo effect can affect a tinted item much more than one with the correct color to begin with. I use the Flaming Pear Solidify B filter on most of my alphas with the final correct color applied. The easy way out would be to just layer 50% black on the background but that leads to weirdness too.
Again, speaking for the audience with "color perception deficiency" (which is a much more accurate description of the affliction than "color blindness";)... ZOMG and WTF!? I don't follow any thing you said starting at "alpha halo". Can't clothing designers just call their stuff by recognizable color names like red, green or tan? (I can understand hexadecimal RGB values too cuz of my math background but "Flaming Pear Solidify B";)????

"Flaming Pear Solidify B" isn't a color; it's a Photoshop plugin. That plugin fixes the "alpha halo" effect, a problem that occurs when creating a semi-transparent texture; a while halo effect creeps into the areas that are supposed to be semi-tansparent, and the Solidify B plugin helps remove the effect.

The problem here isn't about color perception; it's about speaking in foreign languages (texture-maker techno speak). And probably not necessary to know unless you want to make tintable textures or tattoos.

Flaming Pear Solidify B does sound like a wicked color name. It's probaby something I'd want to use on a fast car.

Or have for dessert ;) I find that patterns translate/tint quite nicely depending on the pattern. Of course, when texturing prim skirts, or sculpti stuff it's a whole different ball game. But to each his/her own *shrugs*.
