Sorry, I agree with the OP. One intermitantly sticky finger is NO SUBSTITUTE for a good PAIR of hands. It's endemic to mouse driven software in general. Even DUAL pointers would be a million times better, but how long will we have to wait for that?

...... WE CAN'T DROP things either, what if we picked up something hot and were burning ourselves? I wonder if that is why people have inventory loss issues? - Pick up something hot. - Ow Ow OW OW!!!! - Drop/Detach it --- but rather than going back on the ground it goes into inventory, where it burns the stuff next to it. Sounds almost plausible? _____________________

strange that we just assume that the things we know, others know too
I thought most folks knew about throwing around physics enabled objects I thought most folks knew about the hand over a prim I thought most folks knew about the drop option (which did work for me, have not tried lately) I thought most folks knew we are not able to literally pick things up oh and the purse thing, I recall seeing something like that somewhere (well the rummaging thing, not sure about the other options you described) edited to add this is the purse I saw, not quite what you are looking for, but cute none the less maybe the creator would be able to put together what you are looking for, no harm asking. http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=123296 _____________________

Picking up by attaching
05-06-2008 10:06
Building on my previous post:
I'm standing. I rezz-create a sphere a few metres away. 'Pick it up' by R-Click / More / Attach to (r-hand) In my skybox, my avatar flies over to the position of the sphere and hovers there with the sphere attached. On the ground, my avatar walks over to the position of the sphere and it stands there with the sphere attached. I have the Inventory window open. I notice that when I attach the sphere, it appears in Inventory. It had not been in inventory before now. I had just created it in-world. If I rezz it from Inventory and 'pick it up', I get a new copy of the thing in inventory. I can't 'pick up' something belonging to another, even if all permissions, including group sharing, are wide open. If the object is deeded to group, the Attach is enabled in the pie menu, but I get a "Cannot attach group-owned objects" when I try to attach it. Back to bouncing balls then! Adds: I can't 'drop' it in world. Detach just 'returns' it to inventory _____________________

New, from DemonEye Designs!
OK, not yet, but gonna be working on it lol Items that when clicked play a 'picking up' animation on the av that touched it, gives them the item, and if I can work it out, attaches it to their hand, with the original item turning invisible for a time. Gonna take some time, but I think I can get all of this working, maybe not the auto-attaching though, which would be the main point. I'm thinking of a possible workaround to it, so iono yet, maybe! In any case, I'll at least make an interactive bar soon, with animations of the avs sitting and drinking, and bottles/drinks/etc moving with the hands, at least generally (This will use slightly large drinks, due to changes in av size) So...I'm working on being able to actually pick something up ^_^ ETA:: Probably already items out there that do this minus the auto-attach, but I don't know of any to recommend, so I figured I'd try my hand at making one ^_^ And might as well fight the permissions system while I'm at it, right? _____________________

Then it would be like the rotten Sims. You would run around in circles screaming in agony while you burst into flames and burned to death, too damn stupid to stop, drop and roll, like the teach in friggin' KINDEGARTEN, or to use the fire extinguisher that you're practically tripping over as you run around engulfed in a ball of fire. The guy behind Tegg Bode's computer would be mortified at the suffering he's caused an innocent by the mere act of forgetting to put on a glove when he took a tray of cookies out of the oven. Not that I'm still bitter. Just sayin' is all... DOUBLE EEK! I don't have a drop & roll animation either, they didn't teach us that in OI at all. It's unbeliveable how many buildings don't have fire stairs or fires fighting equipment. _____________________
