Nope. Not a single instant.

I feel more like the speck of dust on the lapel one has to endure on the road to big money... or rather, brush away.

No, cuz I'm a dog, and although I have fur, I am technically naked. Please don't make me wear doggie dress-up clothes, LL! It's humiliating! And how'm I s'posed to pee on stuff to leave my mark if I'm wearing clothes?

Oh I feel wanted............LL wants my quarterly premium payment. :) The question might better be "Do you feel appreciated?". Entirely different answer. :(

Well, I'm hoping that since a few Lindens are dogs at least part-time, there will eventually be more fair treatment of canines in SL. SL is far too human-centric. The administration needs to openly acknowledge that dog is man's best friend, embrace the canine species (a few scratches behind the ears would be nice too), and get rid of human-centric policies that unfairly target dogs and other non-humans, such as the ban on nudity.

hmmm
let me see...
do I feel wanted at the local corner store? nope
Do I feel wanted at wal mart? nope
how about target? nope
or mc donalds? nope

or any of the many other places that one goes to shop? nope

so why should SL/LL be any different?
It is a business, I do not expect to feel wanted by a business, or even appreciated.

It is the other residents that either give me that feeling or lack thereof.

Oh - they like dogs. Dogs are all PG even if they pee in public. It's a bit of a double standard. I stopped using my avatar for a while when the vendor selling it appeared in the showcase. I figured I'd see them everywhere after that, but so far that hasn't happened.

Do I feel wanted? Well I don't have the big bucks of the corporate world, but I haven't felt exactly shunned because of it. LL has pretty much left me alone and vice versa.

If I've ever felt uninvited it's always been from other residents and their ban lines and rude ejecting orbs, not from LL.

Oooh! Is it in writing? The PG part about peeing in public? I worry about such things. I wish to be a law-abiding canine, and to represent my species as a shining example. Trying to measure my natural behaviors by the policies written by and for humans can be challenging.

I wish more folks had avatars like yours - you are a very handsome dog, indeed! The Lindens I've seen as dogs have it - that's probably connected to the showcase.

I would agree, Rha, except that LL's business IS community, not retail. Even so, as a long-time user who produces content only for herself and friends, and tends not to attend big celebrations like SL6B, I don't feel particularly valued by LL. But then, I'm not sure that LL is trying to retain users like me.

When Kingdon (LL CEO) was asked on Wednesday what statistics he pays most attention to, the first one he mentioned was concurrency. He cited second the instant trend of answers to the "Is your experience getting better or worse" login survey, which he claims is an excellent first indicator of service performance issues. These, and several other stats, are displayed continuously on dashboards around LL.

Concurrency will be built most effectively by recruiting new users who stay for at least a few months. I'm sure LL keeps stats on attrition rates among long-time users, and I would bet that they feel that after a year or so, their investment in that user is fully depreciated, so to speak, and they needn't invest more in keeping them. It's particularly difficult for LL to please long-term users, I think, because most of us are involved in small subcommunities, and would really prefer the service stay pretty much as it is - changes like the Adult stuff are bound to perturb us, even if they result long-term in greater concurrency.

I guess this is where we view SL/LL differently.
Sure there business is hosting a community, but they are not the ones building it. That is up to the individuals that use/live in it.

That would be like saying that the owner of an apartment building should make me feel wanted because I live in his "community".

Or on a larger scale, the mayor of a City, or heck the president of the US should make me feel wanted because I am living in his community, and believe me, I do not get that feeling here in the USA.

*shrug*

Honestly, no. Never have in the 2 1/2 years i've been here. I've never felt LL was interested in my feelings or opinions, nor concerned with teh issues that affect me. But I've always figured that was because of my ties to the D/s community here. BUt now that they are best buds with us apparently, I don't really feel any different. So I have to figure it's something else :)

I said it badly, true. Here's what I actually think:

> LL wants to build concurrency.

> Their best path to do that is to get new residents hooked up with existing subcommunities of interest, like those which all the regular posters here seem to have found.

> Healthy subcommunities will take care of making residents feel welcome and interested on a daily/weekly basis.

Therefore, LL should be fostering the growth of vibrant subcommunities, facilitate new residents being able to find them, and leave making individual residents feel "welcome" to the subcommunities themselves.

I think we're in pretty close agreement, Rha!

i saw that interview. it boggles my mind how they think to get and retain new users for th followinreasons
1. sl is HARD to play when ist starting
2. the new rules will turn the only places accessible tonew users into empty dumps like the hotspots in the showcase
3. in order to 'get somewhere' and 'see someone' a noob is gonn have to decide to cough up rl id docs

my vision of what the average noobs experience will be this.
noob goes to a crap flash site (hopefully it wont freeze on him)
manages to make a avi and enter sl.
spends like an hour trying to figure outhow to walk
cant find anybody, maybe a few noobs
if he does encounter sombody its the very worst sorta pg tard, a griefer or more noobs and th eonly places he can go are inthe showcase and BORING

inshort hard learnin curve, NODODIES and nothing to do

I can't really define that, but with my creativity and my future plans to work there, I think so.

I think LL values us - collectively, I mean. They obviously don't know us individually so I don't imagine they hold meetings on how to keep Conifer Dada from leaving - they'd be wasting their time if they did because I've every intention of staying!

I think even after they saved me from leaving Second Life, they focus heavily on the community! That I believe is a important factor as you establish the future of the internet.

i think they do hold meetings on how to keep you, not by name per se but on how tokeep users "like you" or "like" us, a cross section, and there are some cross sections they are less interested in keeping that "you" or "us". alon g those lines doyou or anyof ya feel welcome, wanted, made to feel at home in LL percieved vision of its future.

That's a different question.

Linden Lab wants people. Linden Lab wants my money.

Linden Lab doesn't want me, personally.

If someone asked you out on a date, despite having an opportunity to date a lot of other wonderful people, that might make you feel wanted. If someone asked you out on a date because that someone was lonely and had no other options, and was looking to replace you as soon as something better came along, you probably wouldn't feel wanted.
