Where is Brenda when you need her?

I would wave my panties but you have had enough excitement for one day, besides I don't encroach on Brenda's turf...evar.

You did upgrade to sculpted, right? Girls of Gabriele's class won't accept the old cylinder and hemisphere models.

BTW.. funny story. I got a sculptie one.. um, to see the new styles..<< >> I put it on and it appeared like a giant balloon with "those" kind of textures for at least 5 seconds. That would have scared the crud outta me if I was the other person. :D

How so?
If Damien made a post saying "I got ripped off by a land baron how can I prevent this in the future? " And I happen to be looking at land at oh.. let's say Dreamland. I PM Damien and say "was it Dreamland?" He PMs back and says "No", then I know in this case I am good to go.

But I would still use the 4 or so ways I suggested above in addition to cover my base.

If I'm looking for land, it's not practical to search for all the "Damiens" who might have posted about a problem with some anonymous landlord, and IM each and everyone of them.

There are also other forums that don't have the 'names' restriction, such as slex and slu.

Liralyn,
I don't know what you are trying to achieve here. In the case mentioned I would be acting on a forum post that was recent by Damien. If I was looking for old posts I would use the search feature and look for keywords like "land" "ripped off" or the like.

The forum has it's rules and as a consumer if you are looking for land you have the onus of research. Nobody is going to be able to hand you details on a silver platter. No matter what you find practical the facts are there are avenues to research. If one is not your liking.. move on to the next.

You have to do legwork if you don't want to get screwed. It is not always fool proof but the responsibility relies on the buyer (buyer beware) to do all they can to protect themselves. Otherwise as most all of us have done when we have been taken, we chalk it up to experience and get wiser about research.

It's sure a contradiction for a Linden to be advocating conduct on a third party forum that violates the rules inside SL, but sadly, consistency is not something we can expect from them!

This reminds me of my old voting proposition:
From: someone

I propose the adoption of the following standards for communications from Linden employees:

Linden Employee Communications Standards

Linden employees must not contradict themselves or other Linden employees.

Linden employees may not cite as support or explanation an ambiguous or contradictory passage from a Linden document, or cite a passage which is contradicted elsewhere in Linden produced statements.

Linden staff member's statements must be clear, concise, comprehensive, coherent, and contradiction-free.

Linden employees responding to a question will answer the question that was actually asked, not just one that has a few words in common with the question asked.

It didn't pass. :D

I'm not trying to achieve anything other than what I've said. Although I'm not sure why my motives are anymore suspect than yours. What are you trying to achieve here?

My message - Legwork is hard. Yet it's required in SL. There is no official recourse, and no official way to do the legwork.

I just mean that you seem to be stuck on the idea that it is moronic to suggest that someone should research first. I guess that just kinda confuses me because in SL just like RL research will save tons of time and save money.

What am I trying to achieve here? Helping you see there are easy avenues to use for this research that may take a little time, but will save the OP or anyone in their place a lot of problems and money.

Now what you sum up in "your message" statement up there tells much more then your posts before. And you are right, there are no official channels. But we work with what we have instead.

Maybe you or someone else could start a blog reviewing landlords, estates, etc and give us a place to point when someone wants to research and it could be one of the options?

I just know when I was looking for estate land I used most of the ways I suggested earlier. They did not take lots of time at all and I got a trouble free experience in Island Estate living.

which is silly to a point

the intended result of that rule is so that noone actually has to mod out all the "bob sucks" posts (bunch of lazy asses use a post filter, $username + $badwords)

but in cases like this its good to know

Now see.. I just saw this. This sounds like a dare.

Linky removed to conform to PG standards even in links.

I couldn't get the shot with the texture because I had to act fast. I can resize it to make it much larger, but for our purposes here this pick should suffice.

The scene where Austin Powers had his bags checked at the airport and the "pump" fell out and he says "That's not my bag, baby" just came to mind. :D

No, I never meant it was moronic to suggest research, only that research is required, but yet not supported in "official" venues. As a long time MMO player, one of my pet peeves is the need to do out-of-game research period. Not only does it destroy the immersion aspects that sometimes makes these games fun, doing research out-of-game instead of playing isn't what I play games for. In game research, that's cool, even desirable.

And yes, I do research in-game, like spend some time on property I'm interested in, check out other properties on the sim (the "Date Claimed" on surrounding players properties can tell you a lot, without even asking them), look at owner's profile and follow some of their pics, talk to the owner, especially if you have questions (go figure), etc. It's worked out ok, so far.

But I do find it distasteful that not only are some posters here blaming the victim, the victim is doubly to blame for naming the perpetrators. So what if it's against Linden Lab's forum rules? Let them enforce it.

And I am quite pleased that so far, they haven't. It makes me wonder if LL is really to blame for trying to suppress information, especially since this is not the only thread I've read in just the last week that has named names.
