Grendels noooooooo

Same here. Picked up the gelatinous cube the other night. It is a hoot when dancing.

Whoosh! Sorry for the scare.. been away for a few days and I couldnt get in the sim that night. I was really kinda sad about it. Some times I like to just hang out and walk around and look at the cool Avies and beautiful settings. Glad to hear its still with us

I popped by last night and took care of a couple avatar needs off the ol' wish list. Might get one or two more over th' weekend, too. Some of the fishies are now mine. A beaver an a mole, a mushroom, an a little dinosaur, amongst others.

/me noted a couple other forum folks there as she shopped.

The last time I was there, they were on the second floor above where you walk in from the tp point. It might have been the third floor. There's a display with all of them on there.

I'd never been to grendels before last night. Is a cool place but I couldn't find any overly impressive dragons, or the cute little compy dino that I had hoped to find. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong spots (that place is too big for its own good). Wound up buying a couple things anyway.

Dragons and dinos are on the top floor in the green section, above where you walk in.

Thanx, yeah thats where I was looking too. I bought one of the raptor like ones and an older dragon pack, but really wasn't what I was looking for. I'm on a mission to find that cute, knee-high, hopping compy dino I've seen.

That one is made by Nargus Asturias. Check his profile for his store locations, but he should have a store at FurNation, and I know he has one in Limbo at the Isle of Wyrms.

I went there last night for the first time, too. What an amazing place!

"Scalpers! But what's a scalper? And how to identify them? And what should one do about them?


Scalpers are people who find high traffic areas and hang around them, this often being stores. They then spend their time passing out landmarks to other shops to try and encourage traffic to go there. Okay, that doesn't seem all that bad, right?

Wellll, yes and no. On one side, sure! you might find a new store you like! The bad part is often you already were in a good store, and they're just trying to trick you into going to a place to buy whatever product they're advertising. This may or may not be even remotely what you were looking for.


Scalpers also have a tendency to say how much the place they're in does not make good things, or provide adequate services, etc...depending what the place is, they'll use 'appropriate sentences' to the area.


For example!:

In an avatar shop, you may hear something like: "this place doesn't do things as well as (insert landmark here)" or " The stuff in this location is garbage" and so on.

Pretty much trashtalking wherver they go. Sure, people do that all the time to each other, but it's a bit odd if somebody just suddenly accosts you when you're shopping and shoves landmarks on you, and advisies you go 'to the better place'. They go hang out in someone else's store, shove landmarks to their competitor(s) in their faces, belittle their products, and generally do everything that really gives said competitor a really bad name.


In all honesty, you probably can go to places they send you. Sure! Why not? but you should remember to keep a tight grip on yer wallet and a clear brain, because SecondLife is rife with traps like that for the unwary.

Best bet is, if you catch a 'Scalper' anywhere, report them to the owner of the store, with a notecard of the event and the owner of the store will no doubt take care of them.

That activity is simple enough to curtail.

At the Isle of Wyrms, we have strict rules against that type of behavior, and have no qualms with showing people the wrong end of the banstick if they don't cease and desist.

It is a really lousy way to treat other merchants, and we have seen enough of it to know that it is a significant problem.

Sleezy buggers, when I find people who start handing me landmarks, I talk back to them and start giving them random landmarks from my inventory or even landmarks for where we are standing and saying how better their products are compared to the nobody losers he is pushing. Then make up a crap story about the poor service I recieved from his landmark........

It's only simple to curtail when people actually report the activity. Unfortunately sim admins are not always available to take the calls, or people that are hit by the scalpers don't bother to report, and either simply mute the person, deny the notecard, and their awareness and involvement with the scalpers vanish.

We encourage anyone that recieves scalper notecards or LMs to forward them to one of the active folks in the Grendel's Children group, including who sent them the LM/card.

You: OMG, these avatars are fantastic. Has anyone here heard of Bob's discount Avatars? What a bunch of crap!! His garbage is so overpriced nd has none of the workmanship of this stuff. Wouldn't you agree (insert name of person who gave you the LM).

You: Plus, what kind of shady busnessman hires his own band of idiots and moral-less cowards to slink around like sewer rats trying to drum up business? I had a friend who bought one of his avatars and it was totally different than the picture on the box and had all sorts of missing parts. He hadn't even bothered to texture one of then - it was still plywood! When she IM'ed him, he laughed in her face and told her caveat emptor, then muted her. Can you believe that (insert nema of person who handed you LM)

You: Thank God I found Grendels. they take such good care of you. The owner is an absolute sweetheart and I've never had any problems with any of their products at all. Plus, look at these prices! Amazing work. This is the kind of place that makes me want to log into SL over and over and over. Don't you agree, _______ (yep - insert name there too).

If they even dream of responding, skewer them repeatedly and brutally. Remember that scene in The Devil's Advocate where Keanu Reaves attacks that little girl on the stand? Do that to them, only without any sort of guilt or conscience at all.

Problem solved.

I tend not to boast.

But I will say that my BS detector, among several of my RL HUDs is sharp, accurate and always attached. Had I an eyeroll animation I'd be employing it and walking away from this sort of thing. I've maybe only bought one av from G's, but each time I visit I'm impressed with the imagination, quality and price. Speaking as an avmaker wannabee, they are an inspiration.

I've heard of people doing this, and while I'm quick to kick people advertising in my groups and store where they shouldn't be, I'm worried that my own fans may do that to other merchants. Wouldn't that give me a bad name even though I had nothing to do with it?

My two L$ is hate the spammer, not the store they're talking about. So far all the landmarks I've seen have just been random things not related to whatever area is being spammed in so I'm not too concerned right now, but I'm the paranoid type and I'd be really upset if I found out someone was spamming about my store

It came up in Places for me - 4 did, actually - you just need to use the apostrophe. In other words, Grendel's, not Grendels.

I used the RC new search with mature enabled and Grendels as my search topic. Under places I got a club.. under ALL I got the places you mention above.

So.. if you are not using the RC it is a good thing it is not live yet until they do some more work on the search. If you are using the RC then they need to do a bit more work on the search too.

LOL... ok. No wonder it works.

Playing with those opensims I have been playing around with a very promising viewer called RealExtend. Still buggy since it is in early alpha.. but has a nice interface and multiple settings to log you into different grids (main, beta, opensim, etc).
