I can see where encroachment is a problem if you're trying to build something up to the line and don't want a tree limb in your living room, or if you need a clear pathway to your land, assuming you allow people to walk there. However, I have a neighbor with some shrubbery that hangs over my line. It's pretty and mostly does not take away my prim count. I believe there is one clump that is more than 50% over so I have a whopping two of her prims against my count.

The thing is it breaks that harsh straight property line and makes the land flow a little better to my eyes - so this instance is not a problem for me. If I get to needing those two prims I"ll just ask her - or autoreturn them.

I would ask that people be certain the encroachment is really creating a problem for you before taking action. Can you tell I grew up during the Summer of Love? I guess I'm just hoping for less of a walled off society in SL.

Actually Weston, that's a very good point - as that sort of encroachment is slightly different in as much as it's not exactly hindering the landscape or waving through your building walls. Thats kind of encroachment is the kind I can cope with!

It's just larger or moving items that often cause a problem - that and the subsequent actions of certain people when IM'd asking for consideration and removal of intruding prims, that irks most people.

It's the center of the root prim that determines which parcel a linkset is on, not the center of the entire linkset.

In this case it is a big, ugly, gaudy sign. If it were a pleasing piece of landscaping, I might welcome it.

5 yard penalty!

I had the same thing happen to me, and the friendly IM did not help. I ARd her :).

Sorry to necro, but I figured I would share the apparent new support policy with regards encroaching prims.

The owner of the prims hasn't logged in for a month, and after trying to IM them all that time, I figured I'd open a support ticket. Very patient of me, no? Here is the response,

From: Matthew Linden
Hi there, I regret that we cannot remove the resident's objectsa and I would ask you to try communicating with her again.

I've also attached some more information on parcel encroachment.

Best Regards,
Matthew

So, you get a premium account, you buy land, you pay tier, and if somebody was able to slide part of their objects onto your parcel because you forgot to deselect that About > Land option...

...well, you're stuffed because Linden Lab ain't gonna help you out.

Way to treat your paying residents LL!

Walker, I'd suggest a Live Chat. Point out that the person hasn't been there in a month and that frequent attempts at communication have been met with silence. Tell them what Matthew Linden said and ask if there is anything that can be done beyond this.

I was told by a Linden a year ago that we shouldn't have to wait more than a week or two before reporting an encroachment. Especially after all attempts are met with either silence OR abuse. If this has changed, I want to know, because it'll be time to start raising heck.

Try AR but this may take time, i have such a neighbor myself wich is constantly grieving my property with his crap and blocking my business.
unfortunate lindens seem to be real busy and it may take a few weeks before they move it
and only minutes after something is removed he just places new junk over the property edge.
i guess you just have to live with such idiots and get used to junk on your parcel.

Long ago we had an idiot who kept encroaching with the biggest and most ugly red build he could make on a 512. Repeated ARs from myself and other neighbours and everyone who saw it got exactly zero replies. One day a Linden came over cos there was a different issue on the sim next door and my neighbour grabbed him and asked his opinion. It was gone within minutes.

AR away.

Oh by ages I mean we repeatedly ARd for about two months ... every time he tacked a new bit on ... every time he started shooting at us ... every time he set off scripted objects at us ...

The good old days ...

Thanks Raudf but I'm afraid I ended up selling the land for below market value just to get the situation over with.

I'm feeling drained after two days on intravenous anti-biotics for mastoiditis and could really have done without this, so I ended up closing the ticket with a few rude words to Matthew. That's no excuse though. Sorry Matthew, if you ever read this. I could have just closed it without.. you know.. saying ANYTHING.

And so I'm a free basic again the night before my second rez day. I won't be logging in to celebrate it.

One trick I used was to a .01 m thick wall with an alpha on your side and an sign on the other reading "Umm, this is the property line. Please adjust your item's position"

I also would tweak my stuff if I noticed it was overhanging into the next plot (even offered to remove some of my trees but the neighbors didn't mind especially since I adjusted them not to push into their home anymore without them asking)

... I miss my 2048 land.... was nice and peaceful... but still got my 512m lot and it's nice as i can make it
