How can you prefer something like Sparkle IM which is just text messaging compared to a viewer embedded in your cellphone? Have you looked at the video?

Point is that this technology can really enrich the user base of virtual words and MMORPG's in general. The "my phone isn't listed" should be just a matter of time before your phone will be listed or until you get a new phone.

Vollee mobile access to world of Second Life FAQ
How do I get Vollee access to World of Second Life on my phone?

Simply register by filling out the form on this site and once all required information has been submitted, you will receive a text message from Vollee containing a link to download the Vollee Player (client). The Player is a small client (under 200k on any platform) and all the images and data will be streamed in real-time to your mobile phone.

How does Vollee manage to bring over and adapt a world as vast as Second Life?

Vollee enables content which has never been possible on mobile devices before. We take into account the screen size, the key layout and we adapt the application to make it fun on the phone while preserving the high quality of the original. Vollee can do all of this, without accessing the game's original source code through our patented tools. Vollee games are optimized for low latency on high speed networks (the time it takes between the moment a key is pressed and the time that the resulting action takes place).

Do I need a Second Life account for this?

Yes you do need to have a Second Life account and to have gone through the creation of your avatar and basic training. You can then, as a Second Life Resident, simply log-in using your existing accounts and continue your avatar driven adventures. You are not required to open a separate new account for the mobile version if you are already a Resident. With a simple download to their 3G mobile handset, anyone can sign off on their PC and sign on using their mobile device. If you are not yet on Second Life we encourage you to sign up.

Will I only have access to other mobile phone users?

No, you will have access to everything you are normally accustomed to. You can chat with everyone - whether they be on a PC or mobile device. The platform that the virtual world is being accessed through does not matter.

What type of mobile phone do I need to have?

Vollee service requires high speed connections, so you need to have a 3G or WiFi enabled phone (3G, HSPA, EV-DO, UMTS…). We currently have players compatible with over 40 handsets and more are being added all the time. Should your phone not be in the list of the currently supported one, register nonetheless and we will contact you when your phone is supported.

What about other Virtual Worlds and MMOs?

Our solution enables us to bring over all persistent world in very little time. We are working with many content developers already so you will be seeing other applications soon that will be based on the same technology. Please go to our Forum (http://www.vollee.com/support) and let us know what games you would like to have access to on your phone.

What about the data cost?

You need to have a data plan (preferably unlimited) or access to WiFi to enjoy this service – check with your service provider that your plan is appropriate. The data stream is equivalent to what is used in mobileTV (a 5 minute session is around 3Mb).

Is this going to work on iPhone?

We seem to get this question a lot. The answer is... yes!

However we want to make sure that it is an adapted experience for the device so it will take a little more time before we release the iPhone version. Register and we wil contact you as soon as it is available.

I installed the player but I am having some trouble getting started?

Check the post installation Help guide section on our Forum (http://www.vollee.com/support) that may address your specific installation issue.

I still have questions?

For any questions you still have you can post on our Forum (link) and if the community does not have an answer for you we will be sure to respond ourselves.

Is this mobile access to World of Second Life run by Linden Lab?

This application is published by Vollee. Second Life, the Second Life Eye-in-Hand logo, and the Second Life Grid logo are trademarks of Linden Research, Inc. Use of the trademarks is by permission of Linden Research, Inc., which is not affiliated with Vollee.

Wait a month or 2 then, now that you are aware of it I'm sure you will try it out when it becomes available for your phone.

Given Apple's tight reign on App development by others for their products, this does not surprise me.

This has been around for a few months, and still my WM phone is not there. I don't think this is growing very quickly.

What sort of bandwidth does sl use? This could cost a fortune if you weren't careful (at least on the crappy 3G plans we have here) Wi-Fi seems to be the best option. Which then raises the question, how about the iPod Touch? Can that be used?

When it's available for my phone, then I'll worry about it.

I googled it. Seems legit and highly plausible. SL users should feel right at home because we are used to streaming everything not like WoW where you download content first.

Does anyone have experience with this company? I have a 3G LG Dare with unlimited data through Verizon. I'm a little hesitant to give them my cell phone number plus email address, as I've never heard of them before. If they are legit this wil be great!

As of this moment my DNS servers can't resolve www.vollee.com. The domain name still is registered and can be found via whois.net.

Same problem as AjaxLife... you have to give your SL account and password to a third party.
