Do you fee an excessive need to poll opinions on every Goddamn thing about SL?

The poll part came across, to me, as part grouch and part attempt at satire.

From: Clarissa Lowell The poll part came across, to me, as part grouch and part attempt at satire. I think you hit the nail on the head there but I have to ask what's wrong with satire? Even if it is only an attempt? Does posting to the forums require some measure of success? Whose measure? And grouchiness is just another word for impatience. It isn't a peculiar quality of mine by any means and beneath that grouchiness there is a very serious question: why is it necessary to survey these seemingly innocuous details? Would you split hairs with me if I wanted to know how often residents log on from work, for instance? Or if I wanted to know the most embarrassing moment each of us had when an SL session was interrupted by RL perhaps? But it isn't cool for me to wonder why we wonder about this stuff?

I LMAO when I saw this poll. Satire worked for one person.

But it isn't cool for me to wonder why we wonder about this stuff? I wasn't splitting hairs. I wasn't saying you had to have a 'successful' thread or that you had to post in a certain way. I was wondering aloud why you would want to read a forum you dislike. You can post as many polls or satirical polls or mocking threads as the mods (I'm not a mod) will allow. If a thread doesn't interest me, I just ignore it. I usually do not answer or read polls myself. It isn't your wondering why there have been a lot of polls lately that I questioned, at all. I thought the question itself was clear. But what I remarked upon was the tone. It seemed designed to shame someone, frankly. Maybe shame is a bit strong of a word. It implies too specific/subjective an intent. Insult, maybe. I would've laughed too Mickey except I like Briana and also the tone was a bit mean.

From: Clarissa Lowell I was wondering aloud why you would want to read a forum you dislike. Where does 'dislike' come into it? That's what you read into the the tone of my OP. It wasn't necessarily my attitude. As far as I'm concerned, I was just wondering aloud myself. From: Clarissa Lowell You can post as many polls or satirical polls or mocking threads as the mods (I'm not a mod) will allow. If a thread doesn't interest me, I just ignore it. I usually do not answer or read polls myself. I may or may not chose to do the same. Heads or tails? From: Clarissa Lowell Maybe shame is a bit strong of a word. It implies too specific/subjective an intent. Insult, maybe. No, 'shame' is most definitely too strong a word.

Okay. Well, that was my impression of it. The cursing, the purposeful mocking of what another forum member enjoyed doing. It just seemed mean to me. It doesn't mean that is who you are as a person, obviously I don't know you. But sometimes your grouchiness scares me a bit. Lol.

From: Ephraim Kappler Well, if sarcasm works better for you, Mickey, you're welcome to it. Yeah, that works too....but had to pick between grumpiness and satire. Perhaps a poll is required, with more options.

You and I are different then. That's all. No big deal. Just sayin'....people see different things and respond differently.

From: Ephraim Kappler Are you genuinely obsessed with what drives SL residents to do what they do?
Do you really want to know every little tick that makes virtual folk tick?
Are you planning to redeem the whole sorry shebang with your accumulated knowledge?
Do you give a damn, really?
Answers on the poll please but I should say that, personally, I couldn't care less what you think. This need to be a poll!!

From: Mickey Vandeverre You and I are different then. That's all. No big deal. Just sayin'....people see different things and respond differently. Mickey and Clarissa, let me draw your attention to this post from Jig on the Poll thread: She has just as much right to be aggrieved by any percieved nastiness as anyone else but, no, she did the right thing, stood up for her interests, expressed her opinion (Chrissakes she even voted on the f@ckin thing) and let the matter go at that. It's not just a question of what I meant by the poll or whether or not I was being an old grouch but moreso what folk read into it and whether or not they want to have a good grouch about it themselves. The more I think about it, my gut instinct to go for irony was right on the mark. From: Brenda Connolly Eric Satire is one of my favorite composers. He would have been one of mine too if he hadn't taken his humour so seriously.
