Thus when trout or someone else is trying to innocently get something done, they end up looking rude and inconsiderate since some folks take things very personally i.e. 'why are you hiding from ME' So i really don't understand why it is offered on the contact menu.
That's one of those instances where you can use SL's broken state to your advantage with "They must have broken friends list again" :p.

Or just set your busy message to the "Resident is offline etc etc" and close IMs as they arrive.

Trout mentioned that he blocks his list when he is trying to get something done and that would make sense if the blocking actually worked; but it doesn't work, because if someone pm's you while you 'appear offline' to them - they can tell you really are online. Why? Because after they type their message and send it - there is no alert that says 'person is offline, message will be saved blah blah...' If you really are offline - they will get that message. Well you can also tell from a group, if you are in the same group as the person, whether they are blocking you or not. To be honest, the system is borked.

Just curious, is the reason you want to know who's online so that you don't login? :)

Two things...

1. I don't have that many friends to make much difference.

2. I don't log on that often lately. Since my internet is fixed, it is spring time and we have day light savings time in effect I spend more time cutting grass and doing other outdoor stuff.

All IMs are emailed to me, SL is borked much of the time and if none of my friends are online why bother logging in?

Pleaseeee come and mow my lawn. It was supposed to be a beautiful lawn mowing day today where I live. Instead it snowed. If I wait much longer I am going to have to either buy a goat or get some cattle to graze the field that I used to call my yard.

Yeeesssss please fix friends on line website. I read the forums sometimes waiting for my friends to come in instead of having sl minimized while waiting, I would rather do that to the friends page.

Not only is the SL friends list borked...but my friends list in world is COMPLETELY empty. Occassionally, it will bring in one or two hippos, but never my list. Really hard to tp someone you are shopping with without it.

I just want to make sure everyone knows about this trick to clear "waitings" and "hippos" - uncheck one of the "can see my online status" boxes next to the friends list. I read this tip here on the forums and it works nearly every time - forces the friends list to reload and reload properly. Just don't forget to recheck the box afterwards if you want that person to be able to see your online status. :)

(By the way, I've never seen "hippos" in my list - I only get "waiting" - I feel so deprived.)

In my case it's usually so I DO log in. Oftentimes I'm working offline and I check the website periodically to see if someone in particular has logged in that I want to talk to, and if I see they are, I log in. It's especially handy if we're in wildly different time zones and don't get to see each other often. Or if we're working together on an SL project, which is the case more often than not these days.
