Now that the Friends Online on this website is hopelessly screwed and may never get fixed, is there another way to see who is online before I log in?

Oops, didn't read through well enough, when not online - don't know..

I really wish they would fix it.

What about that friends monitor thing from slprofiles.com? Or does that just pull from the website?

Just curious, is the reason you want to know who's online so that you don't login? :)

I think some people use it to see who on their friends list is blocking them....so they are using it while they are logged in. I, of course, would never do that.

Sometimes I have my entire list blocked so I can get something done. I know they can still see that I'm online through friends list or just checking one of my groups, but it cuts down on the IMs enough to let me finish what I'm working on.

I can't imagine not logging on because someone on your friends list is logged on. Why would anyone do that? If you don't want to talk to them, just say so - or remove them from your friends list or something.

I used the friends list when it worked to see who was online when I couldn't be online, like from work or somewhere. That way I could use zonkster to get a message to them if I wanted or I could sit there and stew in jealousy because they get to play while I have to work. Stupid rotten friends. If they were REAL friends, they would be miserable with me! :p

It uses the web site. When the site breaks it breaks.

LOL, when you are a stud like me you want to see which gfs are online is sl so I won't have 4 IMs of Hi sweetie instantly appear as I log in.

I've found I now need to reload the page to get it right... I have no idea what it brings up when I first go to it, but on reload it's OK?

So where do you go on slprofiles.com to find out who is on. I could never figure that one out.

Figured it out, cool. Looks like that thing is broke too though. Nice thing though is all you have to do is click on the icon instead of opening an ie page.

If you keep clicking on reload on the friends place it keeps bringing up new lists with different people on it. So...pick one you like and go with that combination for who is online.

If you keep clicking reload, you'll discover that you are getting random results every time. Since I really doubt that my friends are all logging in and out that quickly and that randomly, it is a pretty good indication that the web site is still totally borked.

And yes, the slprofiles.com Friends Monitor is apparently based on the website info because is is also completely hosed whenever the website is having problems.

Yep LittleMe Jewell - I've been getting the same thing. I reported the problem and got a lame response:

"Although the inconsistency occurs on the website, it may actually be a viewer issue. If you are still having problems with your friendslist, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Second Life."

"The inconsitency occurs"...then why don't you fix it LL?! It's only been like that for the past few weeks. Prior to that it was fine - soy ou guys have obviously messed up somewhere. Just admit it and fix it.

There are some devices you can buy which will tell you who's online - I think they can email you or something like that. It doesn't link in to your friends list as such - you usually have to load them with people's UUIDs in order to get it to work. Browse on SLX or OnRez and I'm sure you'll find some options.

I still love how LL can make me laugh so often. Yes, each one of us has a totally screwed up install of SL and that is why we are all getting random results from their website.

There are quite a few available. Some are worn as a HUD and can therefore only provide notification when you are logged on. Others are items you rez inworld and those can send you IMs, which could go to email if you are not logged on, or send you email directly. They are not tied in any way to your Friends list, but instead simply using a list you provide. Most are controlled via config notecards or chat commands and most will work with the AV name, though a few do require the UUID, which is pretty easy to get anyway.

Some friends are more important than others :)

There are occasions when I'm really busy and don't *really* have time to log in, but if I see my boyfriend is online I'll log on anyway. It's useful to know that before logging in and getting lots of "Hi!" posts from my friends, whom I love dearly but am sometimes a bit too busy to talk to!

Not only is the SL friends list borked...but my friends list in world is COMPLETELY empty. Occassionally, it will bring in one or two hippos, but never my list. Really hard to tp someone you are shopping with without it.

I have seen this posted a lot, but I have yet to ever have my inworld list be messed up. There was one day when my Groups list showed absolutely nothing on it, but that cleared on my next login.

For the TP issue -- for every Friend, you will end up with their Calling Card. Right click that card and you will get an 'Offer Teleport' option.

Trout mentioned that he blocks his list when he is trying to get something done and that would make sense if the blocking actually worked; but it doesn't work, because if someone pm's you while you 'appear offline' to them - they can tell you really are online. Why? Because after they type their message and send it - there is no alert that says 'person is offline, message will be saved blah blah...' If you really are offline - they will get that message. Thus when trout or someone else is trying to innocently get something done, they end up looking rude and inconsiderate since some folks take things very personally i.e. 'why are you hiding from ME' So i really don't understand why it is offered on the contact menu.
