Do they still make you have to be invited to get gmail or is it open and easy to sign up with?

It's open and easy. I just set up my lytton.berith@gmail account. :)

I did the part of opening the Gmail bit ok, have you done the bit of getting it to download into OE, that is where my fun started.

But you got @gmail.com Why did I get @googlemail.com ?

I use Gmail and Refuse to use Outlook Express, but use Thunderbird instead. Works perfectly and is 100% free.

It's at http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/

But is that a program that is run on your computer or just something on a webpage somewhere? My problem with OE is that I want to look at my e-mail everywhere not just on computers with OE or Thunderbird. My account with Yahoo (which keeps asking if I want to switch to OE) is accessible everywhere.

Because you're in the U.K., I suppose. A U.K. company claims rights to the "Gmail" name. So it's googlemail for folks over there.
