did you try Gmail? Also, as far as most email goes, you're probably safer using a web interface as far as viruses and junk/spam mail management.

I think most people go for a Googlemail account. It makes sense as your SL name is unique therefore the chances of your chosen name already being taken are slim.

Agreed: Gmail.

www.gmail.com will get you there as well as just going to www.google.com and clicking the "Gmail" link.

Recommended for several reasons:

Unique names still available (especially the quirky ones you find in SL).
Forwarding capabilities (just check one e-mail address, use it to reply to messages to all your accounts)
Unlimited capacity (I have still not found a better place to send large files to myself)
Easy to set up and easy to use.

Did I say I like Gmail for this?

you are kidding about the Hotmail payment right? I have a hotmail account that I access through Outlook Express and never have paid anything. I have set my parents up with the same. And yes gmail is great for your avatars. Just make sure your real name isn't in the account info. Send a test email to one of your other accounts to be sure.

Do they still make you have to be invited to get gmail or is it open and easy to sign up with?

I've never had a problem with Yahoo, and I've set up all myself up easily with a free e-mail with SL name. Granted that was a few months ago. I'd hate to have to use outlook express. I want a web-based e-mail, not outlook express. bah
I like being able to use the e-mail anywhere, but don't you need to have outlook express on a computer to use outlook express e-mail? Why the heck would the remove the ease of use feature? Stupid Yahoo.

this USED to be an option with hotmail. and still is for existing accounts. not available for new accounts.

Thanks for the very quick responses.
I have set the GMail up or is it GoogleMail !
I went to GMail but it gave me a GoogleMail e-mail address to use !
It would not let me use my second Life name, does this mean there is a real life June Oh?
I used a varriation of the SL name.
It took me a long time to set my Outlook Express up to download from it, even following thier instructions. At first I found the use of BOTH @gmail.com and @google.com confusing.
They show in Advanced Settings the Incoming Mail IMAP to be 993, which I changed from the 995 which was in my OE, to 993, only when changed back to 995 did this work. But only after I discovered another instruction to alter thr Gmail settings to allow POP3 and IMAP, I thought this last instruction was a bit hidden.

Ok maybe all or some of this was just me, a girl you know.

I can assure that HotMail and Yahoo are basically free but if you want to download to OE you have to pay a subscription.

Thanks again.
Love June

What error did it give you? I'm under the impression you can't have spaces in your e-mail address, you would have had to enter it like June.Oh@gmail.com or something along those lines.

Tried that and without the dot, it offered suggestions, so I popped a bit extra to that and was accepted. So my suggestion that there is a real June Oh.

Hotmail for now
11-15-2007 11:32
I recently went back to hotmail from gmail! Gmail was giving me all kinds of problems forwarding mail. This was not the case for the last year. This started aproximately one month ago. It continually would leave the letter I'd select for the names after the latest selection, making me have to remove it before entering another letter selection. Some times it would only allow one name when forwarding.

Ever since Hotmail has updated their service, I've found it to respond faster than gmail and forwarding is MUCH easier. Just click on the To: label and your entire contact list comes up to select from. No more, one letter at a time for each person.
