I've most often had other people to do my computer stuff for me but my last computer was fun and got me in sl.
Now I wanna look after my next one.
So what do I use to keep my screen clean?
I live on teh Atlantic coast (salt air) and then continental climate so temperatures differ. And then I travel tons. So it gets dusty and dirty.
Any preferences to share with all of us?

this is that laptop you are waiting for? That would be an LCD screen. A micro fiber cloth would be the best for daily cleaning........don't do it while the screen is warm (shut your computer down 10 mins or so before you clean it). If the screen is really dirty or something sticky is on it dampen a different micro fiber cloth (not wet.......just barely damp) and gently clean the gunk off then with a clean dry micro fiber cloth finish cleaning.

Never rub hard on the screen.....LCD's have plastic outer screens and are easy to push against the crystal diodes and cause damage or dead spots on the screen.

I guess wiping it with spit on my sleeve isnt a good idea then?

I used window cleaner, specs cleaner and a face flannel on my last one. And I ran a Q-tip round the edge like on a race track to get the snuffly bits off.

I'll take your advice.

Oh that would work in a pinch I guess :)

Actually, I've done that. Not the way you are supposed to treat your monitor though.

Depends, some laptop screens, like mine, have a glass plate in front of them for protection. So I use a mild glasscleaner for that one.

My home system doesn't have that so I use a special LCD cleaner. You can find those in any pc store.

One tip: do get a good cover for your laptop to store it in.

sounds silly but i use that swifter duster. in the event of "soda/coffee/ tea spewed on screen due to a humorous post i use a soft cloth and tap water with a half cap of alcohol in it.

You've got to be careful swallowing when you have the rings in your mouth otherwise they'll take longer to get back in a clean state.

Avoid any glass cleaner. They have ammonia and untold other chemicals that can damage the screen coating. Alcohol is not as bad, but still not good. Distilled water if any moisture is needed. Otherwise a just a microfiber cloth.

A solution of vinegar in water does the job safely.

It still contains acetic acid. On uncoated glass, it is fine. But I would avoid it on coated glass or plastic fond in monitors. At least it's not beer.

I was just looking at a Belkin brand LCD Cleaning Kit I have, the bottle of solution lists the only ingredient as Isopropyl Alcohol, the kit also comes with a microfiber cloth. I have used this on numerous laptop and lcd monitor screens and have never had a problem. I do recommend staying away from glass cleaners and the like as I have seen them eat away the coating on regular (non LCD) monitors and I'd be concerned what they might do to a laptop monitor as well.

I make a 1.0x1.0x.01 flexy prim with a 1024x1024 plain white texture, then wipe it from the inside with my avatar, I've heard you can also use a particle generator :)
