I am doing some research on what is either missing, needed or wanted in SL? Like is there a niche that hasnt been covered or something you would really love to see in SL made or built???? I am just curious for my own marketing purposes. Where do you see businesses going in SL in the future and what will be popular???

Just Curious : )

Well that is not exactly what I am talking about. I am wondering in your opinion what is missing in SL???? Is there a certain type of clothing or skin?? Is there a certain type of area needed??? I dont want to know what stuff people are asking to be built or made for themselves, this is more what as a whole what is missing??? What do you not see in SL that should be here????

Sheesh that's a bit arrogant, Vampaerus offered you a good place to at least make a start. If you want to know what people want or are missing, Products Wanted is a perfectly logical place to start.

Seems to me, you are asking the exact question that is being answered in that other forum you were guided to. The only possible difference you'd get in answers is that, instead of getting what those people are looking for, you'd get what these people are looking for.

I think SL needs more drama. There never seems to be enough of it.

I think that most niches are filled and there is such a range of things available, many of them free, that it would be very difficult to find gaps.

It's actually very difficult to find out about all the stuff on offer though. I was looking for malls the other day but only of a fraction of them are easily findable in 'search'.
Same goes for clubs.

The main things that are missing in SL are things that would be part of the 'system' like shadows or flexible links and only LL can provide those.

Now would that drama consist of prims or huds? ummm, [sigh] what would be the permissions? Copy I hope? Modify? TRANSFER! yeah...

ALRIGHT - what SL needs is more woman clothes that do not look like something Kelly Bundy or Britney Spears would wear. SL has tons of hoochie clothes, why not some more presentable ones?

That is just my opinion.

MAybe I fell into the wrong SL crowd or something? Gyod even on the noobie islands the regulars often look like they should have a L$/per hour price tag on them.

There really isn't a lot of variety of stuff available on SL. The reasons are user activity statistics.

There are a million plus registered users. Of those 70,000 are signed on at one time. Of those maybe 10% are habitual users. Now you are dealing with a town of 7,000 out of whom we have perhaps 700 content creators and there is no mail order or internet to get more stuff.

I started out in SL May 14, 2008 and I probably have more African fabric patterns than any one else. There is currently only one Hannukah dress for sale in SL. Guess who made it. There's a menorah for sale for 500L. There are no dreidels, spinning or otherwise.

Try finding a sweater or winter coat that covers your belly (let alone your avi's butt). I mean coats should be bulky things or they are not warm.

Try finding decently priced ethnic hair. I now have an inventory full of the stuff because I learned to make it (Not hard or I couldn't do it.)

The need for food

AV's should have to feed themselfes or Die

or if they eat too much and not work out and sit on a poseball for 18-1/2 hrs a day to get fat and ugly and die too.

This way a Food Industry and Restaurants could be introduced to this world..

plumbers crack
12-22-2008 07:48
I normally bypass this type of thread but after giving it a little thought... it hit me that there is something missing from SL. A way to cover up the plumbers crack that shows on most avies who wear pants/shorts/skirts with shorter tops or no shirt at all. Who'd ever have guessed you'd see more plumbers crack in SL than RL...(thank goodness!!!)

I have to disagree with a lot of this...

I just looked on SL exchange and found 3 pages of menorahs.

some come with dreidles (that spin!)

and I manage to find coats and sweaters that cover my butt and have amazing ethnic hair from booberfunk and soreal...

truth is, I don't think there's *anything* that you can think of that someone hasn't made in SL- the hard part is finding it.

I use SLX as a search engine for items in SL more than I use SL search, these days.

The key isn't finding a niche market that hasn't been exploited, but to make quality items and find a way to make sure folks know about them.

Oh yes, that's not a good look.

To me what is missing in SL is a better variety of music. Most of the clubs play the same songs as each other and the same songs every week, and the next week, and for the whole month, and for the past three months, and so on.

But I guess that's what the majority wants, so land owners go with that.

*chortles* There is something I really want in SL... neck attachment points. Sadly, I don't think you'll be able to give us that. But it is the thought that counts :)

lol. An honest answer? More darker toned skins in various colors. So many skin designers go from three to six shades of Caucasian to either no dark skins at all, or maybe 2 or three dark skins, as if darker toned skins don't have the same slight variations in color and tone. And make the skins moddable, ffs, so we can darken or lighten it ourselves to get it just right.

More good African, Asian and Indian shapes, too.

darksoul, do you really think that if we knew what was missing that we would tell someone else?

Personally, if I knew what was missing, or the niche area that has not been touched, I would do it myself, not give away a perfect business opp to someone else.

If you knew what was missing or the perfect untouched niche.... would you share that info with a random stranger on the forums?
