Disappointed with Hair I've Purchased

I've purchased hair 3 different times ($L 192 ea.) and even bought the $1 demo for each one. The hair looks perfectly fine on the model, but when it's on me it's always really POINTY on top instead of flat.

Is there something I need to do with my avatar in order for the hair to remain FLAT on top and not pointy? I tried turning avatar graphics on high & even changing my head shape, nothing worked. Do I just need to not buy from that store anymore? I can't edit the hair.

Sorry if this thread is a repeat......I searched through several pages of thread w/ the search word "hair" and found nothing. Also cannot find anything on YouTube about it.

If you could post a picture of your pointy hair, posting it on a site like Flickr and then give us the picture's url to follow, we could better help you.

Have you done any adjustment to the hair, even position? It seems so strange to me that you can't edit the hair. Hair is definitely not a "one size fits all" thing. If that is the case with the store at which you shop, don't buy from them anymore or ask the maker if s/he will sell you an editable copy. BTW, have you asked the maker about this problem?

Another thought, when you wear this hair, are you wearing a "bald" hair, too? If you are not, it could be that the default (non-bald) avatar hair is showing through the wig you've bought.

This is certainly unusual. I'm assuming this is prim hair, but "I can't edit the hair" is very strange for prim hair--I just can't imagine no-mod, one-size-fits-all hair. If it's prim hair, there's nothing one can do with the avatar shape to change the shape of the hair.

Do I understand correctly that the DEMO hair also looks pointy? If so, I would certainly try going to another source of hair, buying a demo there, and seeing if it's "pointy" too.

Is there any chance that the hair is made of sculpted prims that are just taking a really long time to fully rez (and/or may be having Level of Detail problems)?

It sounds to me like you are wearing prim hair without wearing the associated "bald" non-prim hair that should go under it. The non-prim hair may still be sticking through the prims.

you mentioned you tried a demo, did the demo do the pointy thing as well? If so, why did you buy the non demo hair?

as for the problem, the suggestion of showing us a pic is a good one, as it will help a lot of us know what the problem is...

or contact me in world and I can come have a look

Actually, No-Mod prim hair is now becoming a bit more common. They use scripts that give you a menu to adjust the size of the hair and sometimes to adjust the color a bit. This is in response to the amount of content theft that seems to occur with prim objects.

If you would like help in game, try going to NCI. There are plenty of helpful people there almost all the time. The Forum Cartel Hangout is another option, but it is more of a US time zone as far as people being there. It's kind of hard to tell what's going wrong if we can't see it. But if the demos look fine and the regular does not that is certianly a new one on me ....

A picture would be nice.. i agree with others that it could be that you're not wearing the proper 'bald' under hair.

i also wonder if you've tried turning up your graphics slider on "objects"? if it's PRIM hair, turning up the "avatar graphics" slider does nothing. Because prim hair does not count as an avatar.. it counts as the "object" graphics slider.. and possibly the "flexiprims" graphics slider. So you might want to try turning those sliders up. Having the "objects" mesh detail slider down on "low" causes all sorts of pointy-ness to happen.

I feel for the content creators, but I simply won't buy no mod hair. A resizing script is all well and good, but I often need to move a prim or three which don't look right on my av's head shape...if I can't do that, then no sale.

I agree. I am very very picky about hair and not only do I stretch the hair to fit me, I also edit many different prims to suit my style. I have bought hair that has the editing scripts and they just aren't for me. I really hope this isn't the way that hair creators are going. I refuse to change my av to accomodate attachments, I'd much rather have the freedom to resize as well as move a prim here or there as once I buy the product, I should be able to mod it to suit my shape/style.

I agree, though I don't believe that my custom will be a great loss to the hairdressing community, as I almost never change it anyway.

it's been a long time since i've worn non-prim hair ... but POINTY certainly sounds like the non-prim hair that i remember.

i think the OP might still be wearing her original non-prim hair and just needs a "bald" hair to wear.

This is in response to the amount of content theft that seems to occur with prim objects.
"No modify" simply means that the sim won't allow the prim(s) to be modified or inventory added to the prim(s), it doesn't mean anything beyond that.

The fact that you can't see the prim params on anything in world (no mod or whether you own it or not) is simply a courtesy restriction LL put into the viewer and would take anyone all but a few seconds to remove in the viewer's source.

Making something no mod really doesn't make anything any safer; all it really does is prevent sales, annoy customers and burden sellers with custom resizing requests.

There are very few reasons to make anything no mod, most of it seems to be due to vanity, misinformation or deliberate inconveniencing.

Yah, that. I avoid no-mod like the plague. Nothing I sell is no-mod either.

I've had that same issue with a few of the hair items I've purchased... What 'fixed' it for me was changing my settings in the preferences window etc. It may have something to do with the detail settings on prims, sculpted prims etc...

You might want to check your graphic settings. Sounds like the sliders for object detail/flexi detail are too low, so the hair isn't looking smooth but spikey. I have the same look when I work in low-graphic mode.

Did the demo hair look pointy on you, as well as the finally purchased hair?

If the demo hair looked fine on you, and the purchased hair did not, that doesn't sound like any sort of technical problem. That sounds like a merchant whose demo does not match the actual product. I'd deal with the problem by trying another merchant.

Since you say you purchased three sets of hair, each at the same, somewhat unusual price, I assume that you bought all three from the same merchant.

Do you have the pointy-hair problem when you experiment with wearing freebie prim hair?

I definitely agree. The only hair w/ resizing scripts that I have are group freebies.

I understand this, but it still seems that many creators do not or maybe they just figure the no-mod will keep all but the really determined from duplicating their stuff. In any case, I cannot stand no-mod clothing. I quite often even want to adjust the length of the glitch pants under skirts, so I want modify even on the non-prim clothing pieces.

That is something I always forget to set on the clothing

if you bought anything from me that you want as mod just send it back and I will change the permissions to what you want/need

i could swear i had done this before but i may be mistaken..

Aye. I have definitely walked out of stores that sold no-mod hair.
