From: Duncan Delicioso Well to add my 2 cents here. I bought about 2k worth of dances from a very popular place (Not naming names, but we all know this place). I come to find out that I neer received any of them. I contacted the owner... never heard anything back. Sent him the transaction history as a notecard... saw him accept it... no response. After awhile I gave up and haven't been back since. Simple fact is this... good owners who respond to issues will have repeat business. Have someone who doesn't respond or care about his/her customers? They won't be back. I completely agree, but with the constant influx of new residents the same thing goes on and on,they will always have new customers, you or i may not go back but all the new bees will That's why we should mention our dealings with bad vendors in our profiles, just an honest appraisal of our experience with a vendor who won't honor his/her product And the opposite is true,a vendor who impresses you gets a good appraisal,as would the one who would'nt give you what you bought had he done so When i lost my 2000 inventory items i contacted my present boat vendor asking him to replace my missing boat folder,he did, and that impressed me so i told him i would give him a good review in my picks for his product,he was very pleased about that

One of the things that I got reminded of pretty early on in my time in SL was that this world is a bit like the USA Wild West. It's got a bit less so since then, but it's still quite possible to have the SL equivalent of snake-oil salesmen. There is no regulatory system in place that is reliable - various people have tried to set one up but it's so open to abuse that it fails quickly.
"Buyer beware" is the motto in SL. If you are going to make a BIG (for you) purchase, try to contact someone at the company before you buy it. IE make sure that the person is still around in case you have any troubles. Buy from places that others have recommended (bearing in mind that some of those recommendations might be from the seller). Get a feel for the place before you buy.
Another great way is to use the forums here - post in the "Products Wanted" section what you are looking for, and see if others can give you recommendations.
None of this will ensure that what you get is good quality, or even works, or isn't a complete rip-off - that's the fact of Second Life. I wouldn't expect any change soon, either - Linden Labs are having enough trouble policing the stuff they have in place already - I can't see them coming out with this sort of thing, which is essentially an inter-resident dispute.

From: nikita Jefferson I tried for over a month to contact the vendor with im's ,notecards and textures (pictures) you can't tell me he does'nt get i m's in his e mails and he would get the notecards when he logged in If this is the way he runs his business then its his fault for not being more dilligent With all the complaints coming at him i would think his ims would be capped As for me i don't care i dumped his yacht anyway but i keep getting im's from others who got cheated, they ask me what they can do,all i can say is nothing except to bad review him Just do what I do ie- pay for nothing. Everything I need or want I get for free. People rant about quality this quality that but at the end of the day its all just pixels and youll get bored of it so resist the temptation to spend a single Linden and instead enjoy all the fabulous free crap that SL has to offer

From: Maklin Deckard Sorry OP, unless you paid outrageos sums for supposedly 'designer' items, you just lost what amounts to a McD's value meal, supersized, in USD or less. NOT worth the potential harm to innocents from vindictive people to set up a rating system for this, IMO. I've been burned with unresizeable prim outfits, poorly assembled items (seams visible on prims), etc and I chalked it up to experience, made a note not to buy there again and moved on. This sort of attitude is what will keep the SL markets unregulated and unruly. The amount of money is irrelevant; it’s the principle that counts. LL boast in the press that they host a million dollar economy based on resident created content, but their regulation of that economy is pathetic bordering on the non existent. LL should be responsible for protecting a customers pre determined statutory rights with the most basic of those rights ensuring that a customer does not get ripped off. If I went into Mcd’s in real life and bought a happy meal and discovered that part of it was missing I would demand a replacement or a refund and I would get one. Why should SL be any different? LL has allowed the economy to grow with barely any regulation or concern for their own customer base. This is completely irresponsible on their part and it is only the honesty of most of us content creators that have allowed this economy to succeed. If we had all spent the last 7 years building crap that was incomplete or didn’t work then there would be no economy to speak of.
