I Find Myself Annoyed that ONREZ is Gone

Hello Heidi !!

Yes, I remember your OnRez vendors in the dome and occasionally browsed through them when I was standing in CIC.

I am still looking for an alternative to replace my OnRez vendors. Can you recommend Hippovend ? Or are there other recommendations ? I know that probably none of them will be as easy to use as OnRez vendors but if there are good pointers, I'd love to hear them.

(And I could imagine the person who would introduce a web based vendor system similar to OnRez now could make a whole lot of money right now. Too bad I know zero about scripting or web programming.)

I was looking for an item, searching with Google, and I followed a product information link and guess where it went: to the default onrez.com site, saying onrez was closed.

Not very good for the sellers, having dead links that will hang around in Google results for a long time.

There might be a more useful way to respond to such links.

If OnRez took the domain into Webmaster Central, they could put in a request to remove thier domain's linkage from the database themselves.

They should also put the "NO INDEX" parameter in their meta.

I switched from the onrez vendors to Andy's Hippovend, use other stuff he makes and I like his product (it's less laggy than some other vendors too), setting up the new vendors was a breeze and I did it in just a few minutes.

The biggest pain for me has been moving my product line from Onrez to Xstreetsl. I find the xstreet website to be sooooo slow! I've quit several times already because of the time it was taking to get it done. Thank goodness I don't have as many products as others, what a nightmare that would be.

I've never understood why so many didn't do both. :) Although my sales at OnRez never came close to what I get on XStreet. Just saying, my sales are better there.

Yay, one fewer steps to release new products. Not like onrez was really competing, anyway.

A real competitor to xstreet would be one that didn't allow people to post page after page of the same damned thing. One that didn't have a gamed rating system. One that showed the highest quality stuff first. One that didn't let sellers pick the products to highlight. You know, one that will operate from the perspective of what's most useful to the buyer, not the seller.

You do realize every single one of those complaints against on-rez apply to the replacement...

Page after page of 'demo' products, pages after pages of the same freebie items being resold, anyone able to create an alt account in sl able to vote on the ratings, paid placements...

Well, as it is, you can look at the Google cached version, once you realize you're not going to find it an OnRez, and find out who made it.

One approach could have been to ask the merchants for an url to give a link to when a search for their products is made, but I guess that would mean keeping a database of former merchants active, which goes against the grain of having it shutdown.

Ah well, what is done is done.

I'm sad that on the day I thought to withdraw all my funds from OnRez I forgot my website password and wasn't able to get in-world. I don't think I had much there, but still.
I didn't even know I had funds there. I must have made sales there but OnRez never informed me of this and I never checked at all. The first I knew was when OnRezRefund Linden dropped me my money - all I can say is WoooHooo!!!!

But despite a price advantage for sellers, onrez didn't compete. Apparently buyers found xstreet more useful. You and I are apparently a minority.

I had my exact same items listed on both services. I loved the storefront look and vendors I had via Onrez but sales stats don't lie. XStreetSL/SLX outsold Onrez 10 to 1. Maintaining my inventory on XStreet is easier though. I could never figure out why/how Onrez didn't charge any commissions on sales. I guess they were trying to build a base but it sure wasn't a long-term success model. :P
