If I am writing a school paper or something for work, then I worry about grammar, punctuation, and spelling. For forums, meh, sometimes -- totally depends on my mood (and whether or not I feel like poking at Pep).

I type fast so I rarely leave anything out unless it's blatantly on purpose. (^_^)
... Including the smilies. (^_^)
Though, I've been told I punctuate like a "programmer". (^_^)y

Immy ( Some will read the above line and know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. =^-^= ) ..."programmer." FTW? Although I can't work out why programmers would put the period there specifically. I always just assumed anyone who put their periods outside the quotations hadn't spent any time typesetting.

Some programmers might tend to want to supply closing delimiters in the inverse of the order that the opening delimiters appeared , such as putting the closing quotation mark before the period in the example.
I tend to do that now, and it is the result of programming, or if you prefer, scripting. It seems logical to me, and I'll let it go even though I know that's its wrong to most English teachers. The way the English language works is not logical. It doesn't need to be logical since it's being processed by humans.
When I was playing with Pascal a lot years ago I did actually start to put semicolons at the end of sentences instead of periods. That I would correct if I noticed it.

I put the period after quote marks when I type in the forums or any online environment. It just looks absolutely ridiculous to me any other way!

If you are quoting someone or something the period goes inside the quotation marks (if it's a complete sentence). If you are using the quotation marks to define something such as a title of a book the period goes outside the quatation marks. At least that what I remember from my English classes.

That follows what I was taught and the style guide I listed above has the same advice.

Hmm, my Elements of Style book says, when listing off book titles, to keep commas inside of the double quotes. It also says "though logically it often seems not to belong there." According to my link, there are some differences between British and American English regarding this.

According to my link, there are some differences between British and American English regarding this. There are two schools of thought about placing the final full stop after a quotation. I don't think either is "more correct" as such - either could be used. It depends on personal preference, whatever one was taught, or what's adopted as a house style for printing. This page from the guide Kelli mentions explains it quite well (scroll down, it's towards the bottom). http://www.informatics.sussex.ac.uk/department/docs/punctuation/node30.html?-- Aes

The ellipsis (...) seems to be evolving an informal use in SL as a king of long pause in speech, which would be totally inappropriate in formal prose. I'm not sure I like this usage when a single full-stop has done the job for so long. I've even caught myself using it like that... I know I really shouldn't!
Another use I've seen of the ellipsis is to indicate that you are going to continue the thought in another line. Incorrect usage by the standards of writing guides, but it makes sense to me in chat.
Kelli May: I have this wonderful idea for a skybox design... Kelli May: ...which I'm not going to tell you about!

Bingo -- my only excuse for the English (UK or American) rules concerning quotations is that the powers that be preferred simple rules to good ones.
