It looked like an interesting movie to me. I'd probably go see it.

As for the tie-in to SL, I don't see that at all. Except maybe the Naked Cat Girls. LOL

I wont pay to see it in a theater, I'll download a hi-def version and watch it at home.
The CGI alone is enough to draw me in, the nakkid cat girrrls is a plussses.

*Yawns* We have a channel on cable where you can watch shooter games being played..why anybody would want to is beyond me. That reminded me of the same thing.
Aww c'mon. I only recently discovered Red vs. Blue and I've found it amusing. :)

Ok, watched the trailer now. Nice special effects. I still feel not enough is being told about the story, which usually indicates a flimsy script.

And I finally see the connection to SL, Naked Cat Girls. :D

I when seeing the title, thought it would be a sort of "the net/mission impossible/bourne identity/james bond" kind of movie.
You know, instead with emails etc... using a virtual world experiment. Using avatars, that somehow infiltratie the pentagon to steal something (and thus difficult to trace who is behing the avatar (a ghost figure or something). That would better suit the name avatar, then this sci-fi rubbish (ala x-men/transformers kind). It has nothing to do with the term AVATAR at all. An avatar is a virtual representation profile/nickname graphic/model, that is used with communication per internet.

The billion or so people of the Hindu faith would disagree.

From what i read it's about someone going into the body of an alien.
I'm thinking it was the man getting off the plane in the wheel chair.

Is this a 21st century redefinition of the term?

Thanks for the link.

It is just what i thought when i saw the guy in the wheel chair and the body in the tank.

Is there supposed to be some link to SL?

I do not understand the big whoop.

The movie does look great.

Pointy ear people rule.

Not precisely. This usage dates to the 20th century, not the 21st. "As used for a computer representation of a user, the term dates at least as far back as 1985, when it was used as the name for the player character in the Ultima series of computer games. "

The wikipedia article that quote came from is fairly interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_%28computing%29 .

The tank seemed like a Matrix ripoff and the hovercraft racing through the forest seemed like a Star Wars ripoff.

Maybe it will be better than the trailer seems.

Now, when can we have SL in 3D?

I have no doubt that this will be a great movie. Titanic, Terminator2, Aliens, the Abyss. Need I say more? Oh and it's Battle Angel next! Yeeeps!

Titanic made me cry, one of the few movies to ever do that to me. I have to give it props for being moving.

That one hit my ex like a ton of bricks. She couldn't get out of her seat at the end. Only movie to do that for me was Saving Private Ryan.

Last night I watched the brilliant "The Lives of Others". It left quite an impact.

When i think of the term "Avatar" - before SL - i think Hindu way before the 20th century.
