Is there a media stream we can listen to the speech live this morning? I'm sure the sim will fill fast. I'd rather just keep working and listen than try to get in there.. TIA

Welp, while it wasn't a buzz kill the big news left me feeling dissapointed, the message to me was underwhelming :/

Uh...that's it...?
This is what we've waited weeks for?
How anti-climatic.

Oh no - that's right - the anti-climax is later.
Stay tuned.

Paid in Lindens? lol

Just as well, so they can get 3% back when you try to cash it out...

Give it to RFL, then.

It's not a transcript, but a distillation. The most interesting parts, to me, is the "end of the pioneer phase" and that "charm and character are yesteryear concepts" within Second Life. I also likede Taff Nouvelle's comment at the bottom, which sums up a lot of my feelings about it all.

Comments?

Not only that. They can create Lindens at the touch of a button. Since they don't buy them back, the residents who buy L$ when the sell order is placed are the ones really paying this prize money.

Is there a place to see a summary of the speech in plain English without all the usual Linden Doubletalk and Techno Babble?

There were a couple of interesting points in the speech, punctuated by a couple of videos of Nicholas-Negroponte-esque hand-waving gadget demos.

The first big news is that we're all Early Adopters--no, make that Pioneers. And we're a ragtag lot. And the civilizing influence of the Pragmatists will soon overtake the Holy Grid. And we won't like it. Hence "Early Adopters" == Luddites. QED.

The second big news is that Voice has been a success beyond anyone's wildest imaginings, and people who still use text are... well.... Okay, yeah, we're Luddites.

(As for the "important announcement"--actually, I rather liked it. Or my interpretation of it, anyway. But I already commented about that on the US$10K thread.)

I am partial to what Massively is saying:

Puts much in perspective.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I think they call it a big success because it was an update that doesn't seem to crash the viewer.

I need a luddite costume...

So basically, SL will soon be home for the silicon head basement dwellers who can't get dates in RL, and and where you will automatically get a facebook and myspace page when you sign up. Gotcha.
