From: Hearttau Edenflower Back to the texture restore glitch, has anyone tried to create a workaround? I'm talking to resident scripters not Linden folk. In an attempt to steer the thread nack to the author... No I don't think there is a get around. Once you texture over something that texture UUID replaces the original. My suggestion... contact the designer and see if he/she will send you a new one. (I do this all of the time)

(I do this all of the time) I made the mistake of dragging a texture onto an object inworld -- only, it landed on a transparent section of a HUD instead. Oops, my xcite HUD looked like 16 tiny flames and I had to guess where the buttons were until I contacted them. They fixed it for me promptly and politely. Meanwhile, there were some amusing results.

LOL It was in fact a giant grapevine that I textured over. I've bought several things from the same dealer, maybe I'll get my replacement.

From: Argent Stonecutter Phil: most people don't want "copy" to rip you off, they want "copy" because they don't want Linden Labs to rip THEM off. They probably never even considered buying one house or barstool and populating dozens of sims with it. I understand that you may be between a rock and a hard place, but that doesn't mean that the people who disagree with you are crooks. I don't believe I suggested that anyone is a crook. VonG stated that most of us who sell no-copy items are scam artists though, and scam artists are crooks. Judging by VonG's response, he isn't worth the effort of replying to (he's too self-centred to bother with - and he writes bollocks) but I'll continue with the perms discussion. Creators/sellers make a choice - they either sell one item at a time (no-copy) or they sell unlimited items at a time (copy), and there is nothing crooked or scammy about either choice. I choose to sell one item at a time and it's never crossed my mind that anyone who wants copy versions wants to rip me off. It's a perfectly good and valid thing to want. I am often asked for copy items by people who want to furnish many places (home rental businesses) but I never do it. They usually say that they would be happy to pay more for copy versions but I still don't do it. I do quantity discounts instead and almost everyone who has asked has taken up the quantity discount. I simply run the business in the normal way. It's not normal to buy one RL sofa and be able to furnish the whole of the country with free copies of it, and I see no reason why it should work any differently in SL. There are good reasons why things like clothes are copyable in SL (nothing to do with losing them) but not furniture. When necessary, I sort out the few technical things that go wrong, such as someone accidentally dropping a texture onto the piece of furniture (on-topic ), the piece being returned to the person but they can't find it (it's usually in a coallesced object), and things like that, so I see no reason at all to sell my stuff as copy no-trans, and I see a huge reason not to.

Okay, here's a suggestion for sellers. How about giving one extra copy of no copy items as a courtesy? Surly giving your customer one backup copy wouldn't harm anyone's VR bottom line.

No, and I don't say you are. However, I think you're missing a couple of things. 1.No-copy is much harder to manage. You can't easily build a structure and back it up if there's no-copy items in it. I was burned so badly by this that I haven't bothered setting up another house, I just don't care any more: I spent months of work and it was just gone, like that, and I don't care about that kind of thing any more. I'm completely lost as even a potential customer because of that experience. Yes, I could have made more and more careful backups, I know better... three and a half years ago I didn't anticipate how easily stuff could be trashed, and finding and deselecting all the prims (including camming around for ages finding the hidden and hard-to-see ones, and accidentally deselecting everything and having to start over) was just too much work to do routinely. 2. Copy-no-transfer isn't as simple as "unlimited". It's got a different kind of limit. Sure, someone can rez multiple copies, but they can't give their copies away. From: someone I am often asked for copy items by people who want to furnish many places (home rental businesses) but I never do it. They usually say that they would be happy to pay more for copy versions but I still don't do it. I do quantity discounts instead and almost everyone who has asked has taken up the quantity discount. The people who I'm talking about aren't interested in quantity, they're interested in convenience and stability, in being able to back up their build, save intermediate versions. They're not going to ask you about paying more for copy versions because they won't see it as getting "multiple copies", they'll see it as getting a product that isn't going to vaporize on them. From: someone I simply run the business in the normal way. It's not normal to buy one RL sofa and be able to furnish the whole of the country with free copies of it, and I see no reason why it should work any differently in SL. RL isn't the same as SL. My real sofa can't be backed up, if it could, I'd do it, and re-rez it when it's damaged. My real house, on the other hand, isn't going to vaporize because I put a sofa in it with the wrong permissions. From: someone There are good reasons why things like clothes are copyable in SL (nothing to do with losing them) but not furniture. I'm more likely to buy no-copy clothes, because clothes are never rezzed in world the same way objects are, so I'm less likely to lose them, and they're not part of a build so the fact that they're no-copy doesn't make it harder to manage. From: someone When necessary, I sort out the few technical things that go wrong, such as someone accidentally dropping a texture onto the piece of furniture (on-topic ), the piece being returned to the person but they can't find it (it's usually in a coallesced object), and things like that, so I see no reason at all to sell my stuff as copy no-trans, and I see a huge reason not to. You can fix someone's broken couch if they come to you with a messed-up texture. You can't fix someone's broken house. And you shouldn't be expected to, but you have to understand that it DOES matter. I'm not saying you're wrong to sell stuff no-copy, I'm saying you're completely misinterpreting why many people don't want to buy it.

Argent. The "stunt double" at one of your stores nearly scared me off the grid. I'm not afraid of ferrets usually, but if you see me in world please don't sneak up on me!

Oh, That's much better. ( Checks inventory for "Sneaking Ferret Detection HUD" ) Are you still like, eight feet tall?

Well, except when I'm a giant robot or dragon, but then I'm a lot more than eight feet tall. Currently I'm about four feet tall.

Well, as it turns out, control-Z works for that case too, but you have to make the edit panel lose the keyboard focus. Otherwise, the edit panel eats the control-Z (grr). Presumably, the menu "undo" works too.

Ah. Thanks Argent. Special request time Argent. Regarding your floating disk; Is it possible to make the particle effect multicolored? This elf wants to be like a rainbow passing overhead. How's that for going off my own topic.

Special request time Argent. Regarding your floating disk; Is it possible to make the particle effect multicolored? The particle effect only shows up when you're standing still, not when you're moving. It should be possible to change this... I'm not in world but I think I made pretty much everything in the "inner disc" object full mod so you could do things like that... if not, let me know, I'll fix that. Edit and replace the small and large platform objects in the HUD and see.

Hi Argent, I figured out that I needed to edit the Hud icon to get to the disks, now what variable relates to particle color? I hope you don't mind me doing this. I'm learning by modding things myself. Thanks so much!

Argent,
So I found the OMG particle script within the disk; Is is under Vector Start Color that I adjust for rainbow effect, or can that even be done? I looked inworld for a list of color/number vector list with no success. Is there a reference anywhere, anyone?

I looked inworld for a list of color/number vector list with no success. Is there a reference anywhere, anyone? To get rainbow effects you'd need to create a rainbow particle texture, or link multiple prims together and put a different particle system in each prim. All the particles in a particle system have the same color, and there's only one particle system per prim. If you do, make sure that you keep the same root prim and rotation or you're likely to get the platform materializing on its edge, which wouldn't work very well. The other thing you could do would be to put a short timer in the prim and have the particle color changing with each tick of the timer. The vector is < R,G,B>, so < 1,0,0> is solid red, < 1,1,0> is yellow, and so on. You could randomize it with < llFrand(0.5)+0.5,llFrand(0.5)+0.5,llFrand(0.5)+0.5> to get a random pastel shade each time.
