Thanks for the replies peeps! :)

I'll go take a look at all of those makers recommended.

Y'all have a lovely damned day.

It may not be the best looking vehicle around (doesn't look bad - just sortofa go-kart type look) but the best scripting BY FAR that I've seen is on the 'Neuspa' by K.R. Engineering. Most vehicle scripts in SL make me scream but these things are a blast to cruise around in...

http://world.secondlife.com/place/63a7bd7e-61ce-482c-403e-6f14350364df seems to be the right place to get one.

/me has a friend with the Urban Warfare model - I'm sure she'd let you take one for a spin if you want to try before you buy.

I thought most of AM cars were over primmed to be driveable?

Dunno if AM does this but a lot of people get around this by having a low-prim base that you rez on the ground and a high-prim attachment that you wear. The base is all the scripts and the attachment is all the pretty.

That's how his are designed, yup. FWIW, his often have a couple body attachments, including a hud that has the vehicle controls.

His drive very ell, but are very powerful. I recommend long, wide roads. Primouths are a more forgiving and also drive well.

I did pick up a demo of his "Superhero" racer. Utterly gorgeous and drives wonderfully....

FWIW follow-up.

Fai: (*waves to the best landlady ever*) Yes I've seen the little car from Curio Obscura - cute as hell! :)

nikita: LunaMare didnt have anything I was interested in visually. All I saw were macho-stripes-n-speed racecar-kinda things ... you know, the kinda thing we guys have been ridiculed for liking because supposedly they are only substitute penises ... *grin* ... not what I'm shopping for. Thanks, though. Do they offer classics and such, aside from racing vehicles?

Lance: the manjis do work well, on par with the Apolon I think.

Tried Primouth. This one is useable enough, drives the same as the manji and the Apolon. That whole "wear the car and drive the wheels" bit took a little getting used to ... I kept expecting to scratch my nose and whack myself in the head with an entire convertible. :) It seems to take 3 or 4 tries before I can actually wear the body each time but it eventually works. Then of course the first time I wound up in a ditch and had to edit myself out I moved the body but not the vehicle... *sigh* .. :) Got that all sorted now and can use it well , and it IS lovely. Maybe a favorite in the making here.

Damani makes a car for only $L599 that includes steering adjustability seperately for slow and high speeds, adjustable downforce, and speed ranging. Tailoring the steering aspects was useful, but it encouraged me to take the car back into inventory rather than deleting it when I was done so that hopefully I wont have to repeat all that setup. The slowest it will go is marginally workable - stilll a bit too fast for me and as a tourabout kinda user I can't imagine ever using less than full downforce. It works OK, but for all of the bells and whistles it is not as useable as the Apolon, manji, or Primouth for my purposes. The maker employed some elegant design and construction here - I wish I found it attractive but I don't.

I found a place called "Very Fast Cars", which among other things sold at least SOME cars that aren't very fast. For onlly $L300 the car looks good and is very driveable but is no-copy! (!!) I may only have this thing until the first bad banline or simcrossing incident. Sometimes things come back to my LIF and sometimes they don't, so I guess this is the SL automobile on the dixie-cup plan. It IS attractive, useable and cheap, but I'm not sure its cheap enough to make it worth the risk of having to buy another after a simple crash.

YMMV.

Thanks again all for the input.

I found Manji's cars almost by accident yesterday (one was outside a store I was visiting) and tracked back to his store. I love the little Isetta clone (Ise-tan) and found it very drivable around his test track, rez speed of the environment permitting. The faster Lotus 7-alike was less manageable.

The Cobra looks *awesome*; I'm amazed it was only 30 prims.

Yes! The Isetta-look-alike is adorable isn't it? I loved the animation for getting in, too.

I've driven a few manjis and the apolon beetle, and i think the manjis are better, but i dont really know how much influence on that is from lag and internet connection speed...
