I am not able to find a single area to let the world know that SL now kept up with what they should be doing, every patch that comes through always comes through with error, i cant even make money on my sl creation which is sad.. linden labs refuses to advertise.. refuses to do anything.. the only reason i learned about second life was from a friend.

LL doesn't need to advertise, it gets new members mostly through word of mouth and news stories about drama llamas.

Why would LL advertise?
Second Life get's lots of attention still in the media. The last week there has been various articles etc about Second Life. You know what happend this weekend? There was a (dramatic) increase in new signups just because of these articles. From what I read in groupchats and mailinglist the mentors where more then busy helping all the newbie's |

... I cant even make money on my sl creation which is sad.. This attitude guarantees failure/unhappiness. Expecting to make money is completely unrealistic. Unless you reprioritize in a personal and emotional way SL will *always* be inadequate - you might as well just quit now. Reality check - it *WILL* be an expense for 99.99% of us. Don't set your complete hopes on being in the .01%. Every violinist has not wasted their lives if they do not play Carnegie, and evey Avatar is not cheated if it does not make a profit. You wouldn't engage whole-heartedly in most other activities with that kind of success rate. Here's how to succeed in SL: Lighten up. Laugh. Go "oooo!" and "ahhhhh!" at things. Compare the expense SL with other forms of entertainment in sheer $/hour - it proves to be a bargian, and this atitude is a certain formula for enjoyment. Requiring yourself to make a profit is a formula for unhappiness and failure, and that failure is not LL's fault. It is your fault for pie-in-the-sky expectations. You might as well take a shovel into your back yard expecting to find dinosaur bones ... and then blame your realtor when there aren't any.... same quality of logic. _____________________

They depend on you to advertise, bug test, mentor, and teach residents all for free while you pump money down their throats.. Pretty slick of them. _____________________

This attitude guarantees failure/unhappiness. Expecting to make money is completely unrealistic. Unless you reprioritize in a personal and emotional way SL will *always* be inadequate - you might as well just quit now. Wrong - I expect to make money from every single piece of content I create. And have done so from day 1. Probably Wrong - I would lay money on the fact that more than 0.01% of content creators make a profit against their expenditure, no matter how small. Here's how to succeed in SL: Lighten up. Laugh. Go "oooo!" and "ahhhhh!" at things. Compare the expense SL with other forms of entertainment in sheer $/hour - it proves to be a bargian, and this atitude is a certain formula for enjoyment. Wrong - I am one miserable git most of the time. Laughing, lightening up and going "oooh" and "aaah" is irrelevant nonsense. Here's how to succeed in SL. Work your arse off, create amazing content, spend every minute you are in SL creating, marketing and selling. Wrong, Wrong Wrong - Advising people to approach SL with that sort of defeatist attitude is ridiculous. No one ever became successful from assuming they were going to fail. Yeah people will fail here, but allot will succeed too and chasing the L$ is the best motivation I can think off. There are allot of L$ out there to be made and if people are skilled enough and committed enough it is still possible to create a business from scratch today and be making a nice profit within 6 months. I am watching 2 of my RL friends do it right now, one creating sculpties and one creating animations. |

SL doesnt need to advertize coz people troll the forums and read resident answers and realize its full of brilliant sexy people like us and join up from there.

But I was watching ghost whisperer on friday nights and they had a story of a young girl whos parents split, the father used SL to be close to his daughter and he died actually iof course cause thats what the show is about.. but anyway... my point is.. SL gets lots of advertising. |

OP: you now have one declaration of personal testimony from a person who truly cherishes each and every moment inworld, and another from a self-proclaimed "miserable git" who apparently turns a profit.
Define success for yourself. _____________________

Define success for yourself. I wasn't presenting a testimony, simply pointing out the inaccuracies in your statements. I wasn't creating a definition of what a 'successful' SL experience should be. I was pointing out what is required to successfully profit from creating content. _____________________

What you get out, depends on how motivated you are, do your research about what is in demand.. build well .. and get better all the time... make sure your shop is well advertised... give away great freebies or dollarbies... have new stuff in regularty ...promote promote.. you get out what you put in.. and it is very possible to make a profit in SL. _____________________
