From: Phil Deakins 7 stone = 7 x 14 lbs = 98 lbs.
A train spotter is someone who takes the number (and sometimes names) of trains (engines) that they see. They go to places where they will see many trains go by. It's sometimes a kids' hobby. Ok thanks. So a seven stone man is a light-weight then. 98 pound weakling. Hey, I was right and I was just guess! Yay!

Last night, I had my first conversation with someone playing a kid when a four-year old came to my store. I never would have expected this, but I had as much fun talking to her as she did in her rp. First thing this morning, I bought her a box of Robin Sojourner's Popsicles (erm... "Primsicles" . I thought her dialect just made it that much more fun. (I must admit, however, that as a native of southeastern Louisiana, I grew up learning to translate "Dat" talk dialect into something comprehensible. In that region -- noticeable in New Orleans, but more pronounced in rural areas -- people of all ages can mangle English and French in a single sentence. I wouldn't levy that criticism if not for the fact that I share the guilt with my gumbo-loving brethren.)

From: Marianne McCann F'r myself, honestly. I kinda felt a little singled out -- but not eithout reason, of course. It's all good. Mari I know I said I would not post here again but I could not let Mari think I was picking on her, or pin pointing her I was in no way attacking or trying to belittle kid avatars or those who RP it heck I did it myself for a while, when I was making the kid avatar packs I got, and it was fun being a kid, no one hit on you, and people were not rude, it was just good clean fun the only thing that I was confused about was the way some kids speak, and I do not feel Mari fits that extreme catagory that I was asking about yes mari you use that type of text from time to time, but not to the extreme as for feeling singled out, it happens to anyone who chooses to do something different, be it kid, furry, gor, or just plain human (I get singled out because of the fact I met and married my husband in RL, but we first met in SL) I have folks asking me if I was insane, because I took the chance to meet him, been told I was stupid, foolish, asking for trouble, suicidal, etc then there was the positive side where folks were happy for me, amazed and wish they could find the kind of love I did there are always 2 sides to each coin I wish sometimes I could just be a kid in SL, have the whole family thing etc, then I remember I spend too much time on other stuff, to devote the time needed and I envy folks like you Mari, everyone likes you, respects you, never have a bad word to say about you. edited to add... the reason I used you as an example Mari, is because you are very well known, so therefor folks could better associate with the question, and I hoped that you would not feel offended that I used you as an example (which sadly I think you were offended and for that I deeply apologize)

From: someone I wish sometimes I could just be a kid in SL, have the whole family thing etc, then I remember I spend too much time on other stuff, to devote the time needed I've known kids who's alt accounts are very busy, an dun get on too much. I merely just wanted to know why ppl who rp kids speak the way they do (not all just some)
I was not asking why ppl rp kids, I feel that is their business not mine
glad I did not offend anyone, that was not my intent
and for the record one of my alts is a kid, but I rarely have time to log in on it

From: Rhaorth Antonelli Why do folks use the "kid" speak when RPing a kid? I sorta get it when the kid is maybe 2 or 3 and just learning to talk, but older kids, say 5+ usually speak as clearly as any (better than some) adults. Unless they have a speech impediment they should be speaking just like anyone else.
I see it happen with a lot of kid avatars and still just do not understand why. (when I was exploring the grid as a kid, (AKA A grid kid) I did not type dis or dat or tink etc, I spoke like I do as an adult. (with typos LOL) Because in RP often exaturation of accents etc is used to really bring the character out as not being thesame as the real person. Fer example, as an Aussie my accent proves it, but I were RPing being an Oz yobbo then by dinkum I may aswell fang a coupla crikeys & other Oz lingo into the banter more than I wood'ave on any real arvo round the barbie n esky sinkin tinnies with a buncha mates & sheilas.

My kid (Bonni Ireland) is 9, so I don't use normal 'kid-speak' for her. She does tend to drop her 'g's' and her grammar is less than perfect.
I find that playing her, I really see through her eyes (which is the reason I play a kid sometimes; to feel things from a different perspective.) For example, where Whyspe organizes her inventory, Bonni "Straightens up and throws junk away." It feels simpler.
The only thing that annoys me, and that I really don't get about kid-speak is why, if someone likes to be 'Sowwrie', or say, 'Fank you!', why don't they play a kid young enough to use that phrasing?
I've only run into a few SL toddlers, and I personally thought they were really cute, and the babytalk fit them, so it didn't annoy me at all. When people playing 6&7 year olds do it, it does grate me.

I even asked her to repeat herself in a way I could understand and she insisted "i sowwie i jes a widdle wun an i duunu big wordies yet."..... (O_O) I HAD to check her profile for her RP story... 6 years old? UGH! I don't think so! My RP age is 10... Not only was she taller than me, but, UGH! Just UGH!(>_< Pink babydoll gowns make not a child. I can't say that I have a lot of respect for that clone army. (=_=)y

i have a little baby avatar. it's just cute to walk around so tiny, with little chubby baby arms and legs and cheeks.... for a short while. but i don't do baby talk. i just think it's cute to look at, for a little while.
i also like to be a dog. just cute to see it walk on all 4's.
